Fact Checkers, add to your list the age of the Chinese gymnastics team.

Anonymous said...

No offense to the so called Fact Checkers, but you are moving too slow, by the time you check the facts, the recall will already be over, as someone stated before it really is not rocket science.

So I will start you off.

What did the city make off of the Music Festival? Well, no seat tax, no real ED in the area. So the short to the point answer is NOTHING! But I am sure Denver DID!

How much did the city make on the newly annexed area? Well it was stated in a meeting that they wanted to make more then 3 million, it was actually in a email from our wonderful city manager to one (remember, we have 2 now) assistant city mangers. But what did they actually make? Well, I know this, it is going to take a lot of dealing and pleading and court cost to get pretty much anything out of that area. What they should have done is work with the new area instead of forcing and yes I said FORCING them into the city!

SOME NEW COSTS TO OUR CITY!
First Deputy City Manager gets $135,000 a year, tons of benefits, 8% 401 comp match and a $500 monthly car allowance

Second Deputy City Manager gets $130,000 a year, tons of benefits, 6% 401 comp match and a $835 monthly car allowance

Our new Director of CPDA (not really sure what this guy does) gets $107,000 a year, 6% 401 comp match and thousands in moving expenses!

Everyone of the jobs that are described here went up around $10,000 from just a year and a half ago! Are these new people so much better! Not to keep boring you but I will cover some examples.

Former Assistant City Manger (now called Deputy) made only $120,750

Former Director of CPDS only made $92,000 a year.

Do you all see the trend here! So once again no offense to the "Fact Checkers or Fact Finders" but we need this information to be out there for the public to see.

The Recall effort has not duped or tricked any seniors into signing the recall petition. The Paul supporters that made that comment should be ashamed and you need to realize that the seniors in Commerce City are not as stupid as you make them out to be.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like an insider or ex-insider with an axe to grind. They were cut or didn't get the promotion.Better check your facts because many are wrong, including the seniors being told lies to get them to sign. Someone more credible than you told me that directly (no I am not Paul) but I told him."If you tell a lie often enough some will believe" sounds like your mantra.

Anonymous said...

The recall people are a little impatient. If you really get the "facts" they might not support them and ruin their plan, so they just repeatedly put theirs out there.Give these people a chance to give real numbers.

Anonymous said...

Those are standard salaries for today for those positions. Appears bullock and crew are becoming desperate. Just because some people don't make that amount doesn't mean: someone else shouldn't or it’s a lot of money to pay someone. The recall group should open their eyes and realize that those are average salaries for the position. We need to attract the best minds and not settle for the crap that the ford/bullock team hired. Petty jealousy, how much are you making at the cleaners? Fact, some people make more than others. That’s why people take on those huge student loans, study while others drink beer and party.

Anonymous said...

Todays Salaries!? What a joke!, Who else in the United States, no, make that the world, in this economy had a job position that increased by 10,000 dollars in just a short period of time! If they did I would really love to her their story!

No, this comes down to fiscal resposibility and our city leaders obiviously has no clue, there is even video of our mayor saying that people are making more money! What World is he living in!

Anonymous said...

We live in Reunion and would love a recycle program, but we understand that everything takes money and we both feel that a lot people forget this important fact, We hope that when the bids do come back we are all not to shocked.

`Those are standard salaries for today for those positions.` What a JOKE!

Did you even know what you are talking about or are you just flying by the seat of your pants!

Median Salary by Years Experience Job: City Manager (United States)start at $59,989! How much experience does our city manager have? And dont get me started on benefits and special benefits!

What do you think we are all stupid? I know the mayor has not been in Commerce City that long, but we are a city full of educated people.

For the so called fact checkers, numbers came from: http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=City_Manager/Salary/by_Years_Experience

Anonymous said...

You people need to start reading. Do some research for the cities around Colorado. Like I said “we want to attract talent” to fix the damages of the good old boy network. The city is planning for the future and in five years this place will be booming. You people are giving thought to the fact that the demographics of the city has changed. We have an education! We realize that the overall economy is down. We realize this is NOT attributed to Paul Natale. We have confidence that the economy will turn around. We realize that this is a personal agenda against Paul Natale. We realize that people are still purchasing homes in the north because of their confidence that the economy is getting better. The areas in the south will suffer from it’s negative image for years. The city has NEVER enforce it’s laws down there. Trash every where, abandoned vehicles. How can anyone capitalize on it’s proximity to Stapleton if no one wants to come down there?
With all of the upgrades done in the south there was no increase in home values so we won’t see any additional monies generated from that. Instead of a recall how about going after your neighbors to take pride in their property.

Boulder - The 2007 annual base salary is $161,250 for the city manager
http://www.ci.boulder.co.us/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7662&Itemid=2525

Denver pays more, still searching for exact amounts because some cities won’t publish on the internet.
Aurora Pays abut the same
Mike Bestor in Golden, same range

For the fact checkers: What is the level of education of the recall committee?

Anonymous said...

Okay but what the Paul supporters forget is that we are talking about Commerce City here, remember the city that the city does not control the water or the fire!

You are comparing Boulder and Aurura and Denver to Commerce City! Might as well compare the rec center to the olympics.

If the recall petitions are submitted on September 9th as was reported in local media outlets, and if they are found to be sufficient, we are looking at a special election sometime around Christmas.

If the Mayor is recalled a vacancy would exist that would be filled as any other vacancy on Council is filled. Whomever fills the vacancy would be seated as Mayor until the November 2009 election. At that time a Mayoral seat would be on the ballot and the winner would serve for the 2 remaining years….2011.

Why can't the recall, if it happens, take place during the regular general election?

Makes more sense to me.

Anonymous said...

Just heard that the city has reported that we have had over 100 and more like 125 new business come to Commerce City, just this year. Don't hear very positive news about the City lately, so I think this is just a great thing.

Anonymous said...

125 new businesses? Does that include the ones that were forced into the city by our city council?

Just wanted to tell the City of Brighton GOOD JOB on securing the Company from Denmark Vestas!

To the person that said that we could not afford paper, looks like we win again.

I think we can made afford some paper and maybe even some pens, of course not the CC manager kind, just regular old pens.

Brighton Resident

Anonymous said...

Vestas builds two new factories in Colorado, USA

Vestas today announced plans to further expand its American manufacturing presence by
establishing a new blade factory and a nacelle assembly factory in Brighton, Colorado. The nacelle factory, where the turbine housing containing vital components such as the gearbox, generator and transformer is assembled, will be Vestas’ first in the USA. The new blade factory will supplement the existing blade factory in Windsor, Colorado.

The decision to establish manufacturing in Brighton follows a thorough placement analysis
conducted in cooperation with the Office of Economic Development and International Trade, Metro Denver and Upstate Colorado. Among the reasons for choosing Brighton are its central location, easy access to rail services and highway infrastructure, and proximity to the plant in Windsor. Creating manufacturing efficiencies and access to a large pool of qualified workers were also important factors in selecting Brighton.

Anonymous said...

please, who cares, this is not Brighton

Anonymous said...

your right this is not Brighton! Brighton actually has some ED and whats that called... oh yeah, STORES! Stores with stuff like MILK and BREAD and ASPRIN!

Anonymous said...

Not Brighton, are you kidding, look at the IP addresses and you will see numerous people in Brighton watching this Blog, it is one of our favorite forms of entertainment, it is like watching the a soap opera. You guys are great!

Don’t miss the city’s final Neighborhood Outreach of the summer. This fun-filled evening of food, music and information is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, and will be held at the Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Ave.

The mayor and City Council invite all residents to attend this upcoming Neighborhood Outreach at its new location. Council members will be there, along with representatives from local agencies, community resources and city services.

This free community event is fun as well as informative: grab a burger and listen to a live band after visiting the various information tables and interacting with neighbors and city officials.

Do you have a suggestion for improving a service? City staff and officials will be on hand to chat with you one-on-one. Need help finding answers to a health issue? Representatives from the health field will be there to assist you.

You will find information from community agencies, health organizations, mortgage consultants and many other resources. City staff from departments such as Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Police will be there to help you as well. Information on community resources such as the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge also will be available.

For more information about the Neighborhood Outreach, call Jaime di Paulo at (303) 227-8775.

I am confused about the recall election, if there even is one.

It was mentioned that if a recall election would happen it would be around Christmas. But according to the Rcall Rules CRS 31-4-503<4> if a regular election is scheduled to occur within 180 days from the date the petition was filed, the recall election shall be held as part of the election.

The recall petition was filed on July 11, 2008 and has until September 9, 2008 to gather 716 signatures. July 11 is within the 180 days of the General November election. So why talk about a Christmas election?

Go get it Fact Finders!

The newly annexed area along with the northern communities should just create its own city. It’s obvious that those stupid people living in the stink and industrial filth in the south want to remain that way. I guess they were happy with a few voters and lots of illegal aliens hsvin no say. If you don’t know Denver government believes the same thanks to the lack of sophistication in the old reign. Wonder what’s next after the unsuccessful recall.

Anonymous said...

OUCH, that hurt. But then again, if the shoe fits

Anonymous said...

Way to make a blanket statement, but I do agree that the "new" annexed citizens should not be gripping about paying their own way.

Lets all remember that the big reaction can much after the actual annexing had already happened.

Previous City Council had actual started the process of this whole deal.

Anonymous said...

ASK Rene if he had anything to do with the last 3 recalls. If we are all going to start being truthful here, lets get it all out!

Work Faster, Fact Checkers!

Anonymous said...

Let me get this straight, Neighborhood Services gave me a ticket for weeds, but the gateway news has video of at lease 3 areas that are grossly out of compliance! How is even fair! I work on Monday Nights and can not participate in citizen communication. I will also put my complaint on AskC3.

If we can not enforce the ordinance in a fair manner, we should not have it at all.

But, I actually think we do need an ordinance, but would like my tax dollars to be working and be held accountable! Neighborhood Services, do your job.

We basically have a crime on tape and I hope that those property all got warnings!

Anonymous said...

City Council needs to start talking to the older and more established citizens in the city.

It was PROMISED to us my past councils that we the city would always have free trash service.

Please keep the promise of our past officials, you are all standing on the shoulders of others and you need to respect that.

Anonymous said...

In Japan, we have adopted a recycling program that requires citizens to buy special bags for trash and special bags for our recycle material.

The cost is equal to $2.50 for 10 bags, of course this figure works out for our particular situation, but this system does seem to work. We have had this system in place for what is now 10 years.

I hope that your refusal bids come back with a reasonable bottom line that will work for your city. But you should keep in mind the special bag system that has proven to work here in our country.

Thank You and Good Job on all of your performances in the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Anonymous said...

I think the special priced trash and recycle bags could be a good idea.

I also remember that the past city officials have promised us the citizens that we would always have free trash pick up.

I do not think that we are going to be able to get recycling as a package. But we were promise that we would have at least free trash pick up.

The mission of the Second Wind Fund is to decrease the incidence of teen suicide by removing financial and social barriers to treatment for at-risk youth.

I am a Bold Paul Natale Supporter and I am reaching out to the Recall Citizens. I am willing to be the bigger person and since this is the only forum that I know that we are both looking at I offer this.

What would it take for you to end your crusade. Anything, Questions answered, I know a lot of what is going on here is because of bad information and I just want all the citizens to make good decisions based on good information.

I am asking you to let Paul talk to you one on one and you will see that he is not the monster that you make him out to be. Paul is more then willing to face any problem and work towards a solution.

Please respond to us and lets work together for a brighter future and more to the point a positive diection for our city!

Anonymous said...

To tell you the truth, I am a citizen that did sign the recall effort for the current mayor of Paul Natale.

I can not speak for all of us, but I can say I respect the opinions of everyone and have nothing against the citizens that are pro-paul, what I have a problem with is the long list of complaints that I have with the Mayor Paul Natale.

As far as what would make me happy would be for Paul Natale to resign.

Anonymous said...

Paul will talk to you one to one. Watching this go on and on is just not right for Paul Natale, our Mayor. Where is your pride in our own city!

Fine, you don't have to agree with him on every issue, but at least let him talk to you and I think that you will find that you are closer to being onthe same page as you think.

Anonymous said...

Damn! So close to a group hug! Maybe we need more time?

Derby Spruce up Week:Launch Successful Despite Record Rainfall

Commerce City, CO. Over 30 volunteers demonstrated their Derby pride on Saturday, August 16 as they stepped up to pull weeds and remove trash in the pouring rain. The event officially kicked off at 8:30 a.m. when volunteers were briefed by Gene Leffel, CARZ Club member and Derby Business Association President and Charlene Meeker, Derby Redevelopment Coordinator. Teams were assigned to the vacant lot at 72nd Avenue and Locust; the alley behind 6400 72nd Avenue, and the area surrounding the Derby Resource Center. Multiple trailer, truck and wheelbarrow loads of debris were delivered to a giant roll-off dumpster located at 72nd Place between Monaco and Magnolia. By the end of the event, the container was 75% full.

The efforts to Spruce up Derby will continue this Saturday, August 23 from 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed! Please join the group at 7270 Monaco, Derby Resource Center.

Anonymous said...

I hope that the recall group is not using the Mile High Music festival as one of their "talking points". The Festival was one of the best things that Commerce City has ever had, it put us on the map and was and will be a very good thing for Commerce City!

Anonymous said...

For the person who admitted to signing the recall petetion.
Did you have the fairness to ask Paul about the long list of complaints you with him? Or did you just accept the info out there.
I firmly believe there are at least 2 sides to every story and most are not simply black and white.I believe we should all be judged by a fiar standard of both sides being heard.
If you did not speak to him directly about these issues no matter if they were personal to you, or the ones the recall has put out, then you are dealing unjustly.
It will also be just, if sometime in your future you too are judged by others with only half the information.

Anonymous said...

The next mayor and subsequent mayors will go through a recall effort also. There are so many nescient individuals from the old guard who are opposed to advancement. The good ole boys feelings are hurt because they’re not revered by those who moved into the north. They know they’ll never win another election so gossip, lies and recalls as tool for anarchy. This happens so much with politicians, actors and athletes when they lose their popularity. You never heard of Bullock until he lost the election and started with this type of crap. Voters, we just need to make it clear to that paltry group that we are moving the city forward without them.

Anonymous said...

When an individual gets that kind of power and then loses it, especially in a event such as a election, it can be devastating. It becomes into a mission that they can not let go. Power went to the old guards head and when they lost, they literally lost it.

I think we all remember the "good bye" speeches by both the Mayor and Mayor Prot tm. It was to say the least weird.

To the citizen that signed the petition: "what was said to you that had you convinced to the point where you would sign?" Did you go and check out what was being told to you for yourself? I am not saying you don't have a right to your opinion, just asking a question that if you formed your opinion off of correct information.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you.
I think so much of this recall(regardless of what they say) is about control.
There are a few people who are angry about not having control and they will do and say anything to take out the person, they perceive, as the one who took it away.
Just to get even!
How sad is that!
It is obvious they are not concerned with the REAL good of the city, but licking their own wounds.

I want to give the Commerce City Police Department a Great Big Congratulations. I had crime happen in my area of town and the Police were in action around my neighborhood within 90 seconds!

THIS ORDINANCE IS TO IMPOSE AN 8% ADMISSIONS TAX TO BE USED FOR THE PURCHASE OR LEASE OF LAND, CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF A BOYS & GIRLS CLUB. THIS ORDINANCE WILL EXPIRE WHEN A MAXIMUM OF $7,000,000.00 HAS BEEN COLLECTED FROM THE ADMISSIONS TAX.

Vote Yes or No, what do you think?

Anonymous said...

At first, I was concerned that the Gateway News was in favor of the recall- posting that video of Rene (Racetrack) Bullock and all. Then I watched it. If that convinced anyone to recall Paul Natale, they need to get some more education. Of course, he thought the proposed racetrack was 10 miles from the nearest house too.

Where is the discussion of Van Deventer's slush fund for the thousand dollar pens, or for the flowers his wife overcharged the city for? The latter probably made up for the difference between his salary and Jerry's.

And regardless of what excuses are given, this recall is all about NASCAR and the plans to replace Paul Natale with Debbie Mitchell to bring it to us.

Anonymous said...

Debbie Mitchell!!?? Are you Kidding me! I don't think so!!

PLEASE explain more of your theory!

Anonymous said...

Is Debbie one of bullock or fords friends?? If so, we definitely don't want people in government pushing their agenda, that’s why we're so screwed up now. I was against changing the name in last election but thanks to bullock and crew claiming to be the voice of Commerce City; I really want to change the name now as proclamation we are a new City with a new direction.

Anonymous said...

I don't know, It sounds a little far fetched, but you know I guess I would not be surprised.

This is a good question to be asked at the next recall coffee.

By the way, if anyone wants to have these comments to go to their email, or cell phone, talk to Dustin McIntyre of the Gateway News. He can set this up for you, I have it and it gives me the chance to respond to any comment that I want right away. I know that their is currently 12 of us that have this feature. It is nice because I can not make it to a lot of events and I can't make it to city council, due to my work schedule. So this way, I am always in the loop.

To recall an elected official is a serious matter. The person being recalled must be doing an illegal act, or causing a serious situation in regard to public safety. Disagreement is not a recall action. Losing an election to a public office is not a recall action. Personality conflicts are not recall actions. Recall elections are extremely costly both in time and money.

Having said that, I do not understand how one person can be blamed for the decisions made by a group of eight other city council people.

Mayors are hard pressed to answer every question posed to them. That is why there is a city manager, and department heads for the many departments within the city. Management is a difficult position. If one is too wishy-washy, one is accused of not being able to lead. If one is too brisk, and bullish, one is accused of over stepping his authority.

Many articles are being written. One recent article said, “Don’t believe the rumors, of you want to know the truth, just ask.” Ask who? The recall committee? The support group of the mayor? I guarantee you will hear two different truths! Dishonesty is a harsh word. One man, even if he is the mayor, does not control the city. It takes a full city council, a mayor, and a complete city government, as well as the entire community.

Paul Natale was elected by the people. My opinion of the mayor is positive. I believe he has done, and is doing the best he can in every instance. He has made some mistakes, as we all do. He is human. But his heart is in this community. People work hard as elected officials in every city, county, state, etc. They give of their time and yes, their money.

I suggest people attend meetings. City Council, study sessions, and all others available to the public. The CIAC was just dissolved this past month. This was a group of citizens who attended one meeting a month to discuss city matters, and pass on to the city officials how people felt about different aspects of what was happening on our city. We had approximately twelve citizens who attended every meeting. Where were the other thousands that could have had input?

We have complaints, but we go to the correct source and generally get our problems solved.

One person cannot be held responsible for every happening in this city. Please get the right information. Do not vote for a recall. This is not a good way to voice one’s opinion. This can also be very destructive to our city. We have worked hard to overcome a reputation which was undesirable. We are now considered a city of which we can be proud. And hopefully we are closing in on being one city and not the north and south.

We have lived here fifty-three years. We have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Our first experience with Commerce Town government goes back to a Quonset city hall, and attending meetings in a tiny room with a table where the city council, mayor, and city attorney met to decide the future of Commerce City. We have come a long way, and hopefully we will continue our road to the future.

This council and mayor followed the previous council’s and mayor’s example. So, before you vote to recall the mayor, check out that has been accomplished by this mayor and city council.

What are the names of the businesses affiliated with the recall committee? I need to make sure my family is not spending our money there.

I have been told that the Bullocks (Racetrack Rene and wife Debra) are running their dry cleaning business through the Key Bank in old C.C. We heard someone in the bank is allowing people to drop off laundry there and the Bullocks pick it up.
Rene works at the Deck Superstore in C.C. (doesn't own it just works there)
Their recall group have had meetings at El Jardin, J.K. cafe & someone from their group sits outside King Soopers in C.C. nearly everyday, trying to collect signatures.
(Walmart chased them away from in front of their store)
Nice to see Walmart stay neutral.

Anonymous said...

guilty by association is not fair for some of those business, King Soopers, fine, But Deck Superstore? I dont think so, Key Bank? So what? He has to make money just like the rest of us.

This has really become a almost family feud between the Bullocks and Natlates.

Anonymous said...

I won't be doing business with the Deck Superstore. Employees represent the integrity of the management.

Why does a bank have dry cleaning dropped there. Doesn't make sense. More Commcerce City favors?
Wonder if the company is okay with that?

I am sitting here watching coverage of the DNC and Hillary speech, compares john and bush to the twin cities.

It is exactly what is going on here in Commerce City! We have two political sides that are playing hard ball, and I don't see a end near. Will this all go away on Sept. 9th. If they get the question on the ballot, where do we go from there? We will have then almost 2 and half months of more political fighting. If they don't get it on the ballot, I guess we will see another attempt just as soon as they can? Or will they take some different path?

All in all people, I think this is just what the world is, this is just what people and more to the point, this is what politics is all about. It is not for the weak hearted, and you have to have very thick skin.

God Bless you All and lets at least take 10 minutes everyday and think of some way we can take care of each other.

I guess I see it a little different. the Bullicks have been after the mayor for a long time. Goes back to their comments about, Rene was promised to be mayor, that it was his turn. outside of the recent interview, I have not seen or heard the mayor make any statements about this recall. He certainly has not been making negative statements about the Bullicks. he seems to be just trying to take care of the city.
thick skin is one thing but never ending lies is another altogether

I have a REAL problem with the so called DERBY PROJECT. I was unable to go to the city council meeting, but I was able to talk to officials and elected officials for the city of Commerce City.

The derby project is over $800,000 and all I see Joe Riley Park and the derby resource center. What I don't see anymore is all of the benches! Where did they all go? What use to be an area of town where people could go and sit is now gone.

Now, I think everyone should know it cost is $300,000 for consultant fees and one group got over $200,000!

I was told that one of the Council Members said that this area (Derby) has been a real "Cash Cow" for consultants. I whole heartedly agree!

What a joke! It is my request that city council address this in public and explain how they could let this happen!

Upset Citizen of Commerce City

I believe when you build anything correctly you plan.
Having said that I wouldn't even think of redoing an area like Derby without a great deal of planning.
I understand many attempts have been made and gone nowhere.
I see a foundation being built and the frame going up. This house will be built strong and correctly rather than quickly and in a shabby manor.
Good things don't happen over night and hiring specialists does cost money.
I wouldn't go to a dental student for a root canel, but a specialist.
Outside of talking to this council person, have you bothered to attend any Derby meetings or other council meetings?
This council person you spoke to must have helped get this project where it is, flip, flop.

To the last comment: GREAT POINTS, I am with you. People don't realize that in todays world, you have to relay on people would have the knowledge to do a good job or should I say a correct job. Derby needed to be looked at no matter what anyone says, and correct me if I am wrong, but didn't we get a bunch of grant money (Suncor and Block grants)! This could have not been accomplished if we did not have these consultants helping us! Everything is going pretty well now in the city, we are headed the right direction and we seem to have more positivity.

Recall Camp is really quite. Is it over? Did they finally realize that they were hurting our ccity?

I am getting mixed messages from council, I was at the one council meeting were Roger talked about the city and it didn't look that bad. Mayor Paul even said: see don't believe the rumors, the sky is not falling.

But now I am hearing the this last city council meeting was a terrible spectacle of dipping into reserves and we are not doing well and budget cuts needed and free trash not looking good, and forget any kind of recycling program.

I wasn't there so someone help me out here!

Anonymous said...

First off, I just talked to a recall member and it is far from over.

Second, to the person that missed the last council meeting, you missed what I considered to be one of the most important meetings of the year! Trash, Budget, Derby, all of these issues were discussed and a lot of hard questions were asked. Star of the night was Council Women Kathy Teter, asking questions like how much top end staff was included in 2007 and what were the dollar amounts. If we are doing so bad, why are we adding new positions and at a what I would call a outrageous salaries. Derby was also brought up and we all learned about the consulting fees and it was council member Orval Lewis that said that Derby Project is a "cash cow" for the consultants! I couldn't have agreed more! Do you all remember the presentation the derby consultant did for council and their oh so famous 50s theme. What a waste of money, time and resources.

The city manager even had a prepared speech before the presentation by Roger. Basically, a excuse letter.

Also you missed the new format of council sitting in a square in the middle of the room. This is something I actually like. The meeting was more personal and it is my observation that council really opened up more and seemed to be more willing to ask the tough questions. I like the new study session format and I hope the council continues this.

I am sure that the gateway news has this all on streaming video, if you want to see the video of the last council meeting yourself, you can ask them to view it. I would suggest that you do view it for yourself so you can make you own opinions. But is for sure a meeting that brought up lots and lots of important issues!

Mixed messages.
My take and only my take. When income lessens, for what ever reason, output must also.
Doesn't mean the city is in trouble, just that they will have to adjust monies spent.
As far as the trash pick up. Have you noticed the price of gas or diesel fuel. When it rises everything rises.
If you have ever dealt with a budget you should understand this concept.

Anonymous said...

THANK YOU for the fast response, I am on the e-mail list for this blog, you make good points. I do understand budgets and they can be very hard to deal with, but more to the point people really don't even know how to read them.

I hope I am correct that the city is still financial stable, we just have to watch it carefully and not go overboard. Just got off the phone with council member and even Mr. Tinkleberg (love that name) says we are not in a emergency.

I feel better, but will be watching, just to make sure.

GATEWAY NEWS! you again are just adding fuel to the fire with this Mayor Video! Do you even know that you are hurting this city by constantly bringing up the recall! All you talk about is RECALL RECALL! You don't see the Beacon or the Commerce City Express covering this! Why must you? Why is this such big news for you? Is this what Reba Drotar told you to do!

We do not need the Drama of this recall, especially now at this point in time of our city.

And you said that you were all pro city! Well I hope that you are making Reba Drotar HAPPY.

Having the Mayor address questions that the recall are putting out there is support for recall?

Please Explain.

I'll EXPLAIN!

You are adding fuel to a issue that has no substance. It is not NEWS! Paul will be September 9th and Paul will be here well after that too and years after that until his term is up.

Paul has done nothing but good for this city and I am proud to call him my Mayor. Gateway News needs to back off Paul and start covering positive news.

I just read the Beacon (of Light?).
Found the one commentary quite interesting.
It stated that the city is causing the Murray Maze to not exist.
Last Oct, I was listening to Tom Martino show and someone called in to say their daughter and friends had gone to the maze/haunted house and had been groped. Don't know if it's true, but the call was real and they said Adams county was investigating.
Maybe Murray's liability insurance went up?

Anonymous said...

I respect you opinion, but it is my view that if the recall is asking these questions and they are not being responded too, Citizens are just going to assume they are truth.

Without information, people create their own information and that can be dangerous.

I think that if the recall effort has acquired over 650 signatures, that means they have at least 650 different conversations! Now don't you think that it is a good idea for the mayor to at least go on record as saying something!

Recall of our Mayor

What could be the person’s (Namely Renee Bullock) real reason for forming a group to recall Mayor Paul Natale?

They say it is because Paul is not doing what is required of him as Mayor. It is because he only listens to the problems of a select few citizens. It is because when he listens to complaints from citizens he just passes the buck to someone else in city government. They say he intimidates or bullies the other counsel persons to do things his way.

When Paul first moved to Commerce City about ten years ago he soon became involved in the city government workings to help make this a better place to live. He served on many boards. He served as city council person. He is now our Mayor. Paul has never asked for anything more in compensation than what was offered. In fact he has at some times declined to accept any compensation for things done.

My thoughts are that the real reason of the person who heads up this recall group is this. He would like the position of Mayor for his own self ego. During his tenure as council person he always would tell how much he alone accomplished for the citizens of our city never mentioning any other council persons help.

He has made public statements that the last election was rigged so he would lose his bid for Mayor. In one of his statements he said even though he wasn’t elected he would still be involved in city government. Over a year later very little involvement if any by him.

He states he is no longer interested in becoming Mayor. He states he is only interested in helping our community. I would bet that in the next election we have for city council the name Bullock will be on the ballot.

If you are asked to sign a recall petition on Paul be sure you know all the facts.

To the person who wanted the mayor to go on record.
I saw a video on this site the other day. Today's Beacon talked of two interviews that one of the reporters has had with the mayor.
I also heard the mayor say in the video that he was open to questions via phone, e-mail or in person.
I personally don't know what else you are looking for as to an opportunity to find out what he has to say.

Tonight, the McCain campaign issued the following statement from Tucker Bounds, McCain 2008 spokesman, on Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention:

"Tonight, Americans witnessed a misleading speech that was so fundamentally at odds with the meager record of Barack Obama. When the temple comes down, the fireworks end, and the words are over, the facts remain: Senator Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year, and still voted against funds for American troops in harm's way. The fact remains: Barack Obama is still not ready to be President."

What do you think?

Heard a rumor (that ended up being very TRUE!) that our great mayor had a personal press conference at his home in River Run (Northern Part of the City), he has only been a resident of Commerce City for a very short time. Anyway, I was told by a city official that the mayor (Paul Natale) had the City’s new Public Relations guy at this Press Conference with all three of the local newspapers and there is proof of this, which I know most of the city is talking about and that is the video on the gatewaynews.org website. I verified that yes indeed the city’s new Public Relations guy was present at this meeting.

So here are the questions.

Why is the mayor using the city’s Public Relations guy for his personal use? As I see it, the recall has nothing to do with the general mayor’s position, but rather the mayor him self!
Second Question, how long did this meeting with the three local papers take?, the video alone is about 8 minutes long. What about the personal interviews with the Beacon and the Commerce City Express? According to the new “guidelines” the council is supposed to vote on projects that will take the staffs time that exceeds 30 minutes! Or did the King, I mean Mayor forget about that rule, (But he sure remembers the new guidelines and rules when it comes to shutting up other council members from speaking, like what he did to Kathy Teter and Reba Drotar and Jason Mclowdowny in the past!)
Did the city manger (Jerry Flannery) even know this meeting was taking place? And did he approve it? Just for everyone to know, this private press conference took place on a Saturday!

Those who think the recall is a joke or fading away, I hope you watch, hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of citizens have already signed and we ain’t done yet. So, hear is the last question. If we are so off and out of touch, why are so many people supporting this effort?

Anonymous said...

District 14 School Board

Are we now going to lose a great leader in our community? This time it may be from the School District. Some school board members do not think it is necessary to extend the school district superintendent’s Dr. John Lange contract at this time. In a recent board meeting one member made motion to extend the contract and another member seconded the motion.

During the comment session of this motion the student school board member remarked how much Dr. Lange has accomplished and how well he was liked and accepted by teachers and students throughout the school district. When it came time for a vote on the motion it was a count of three opposed and two for. Later in the meeting the member who made the motion stated that the members who voted no should state their reasons why they voted this way. There was no response from any of them.

The contract has usually been made for a period of one year and is given well in advance so the superintendent can see what direction he will take. However the last time the contract was considered it was only extended for 6 months. At that time one school board member told me the reason for this was so more study was needed so a better understanding of the contract could be made to the newly elected members of the board.

The superintendent needs to know if his contract will be extended so he can plan his career future.

During Dr. Lange’s time as superintendent there has been many things accomplished for the betterment of District 14 school children and teachers. Among those are improved test scores, getting government grants and being instrumental in getting citizens to approve bond issue to build the new high school.

It is our hope that the school board looks at the issue of this contract very closely in the near future and then extends it.

Commerce City Council:

Take this serious for just one moment, forget everything and just read this and try to think of nothing else.

We can really start something special here. I am going to say the word and I know that you might cringe and being politicians with the responsibility of the tax payers money, you should. Okay brace yourself…..Free Trash and Recycling for the whole city. I KNOW, I KNOW. I hear you and you do have a point. I just think that is there is some way or some how we could be the leaders of the pack here, instead of always following the pack. We could be the shining example of how a city could accomplish such a feat. Other cities would look towards us and learn from us, we could be the trend setter. I heard Mr. Obama’s speech at Invesco Field and heard him say in 10 years we would end our addiction to oil. I believe in him and I believe in you. All of you as a complete council. I know that all of you think that recycling is a good idea and good for not only our city, but for the future, our children's future. I know many of you have children of your own and some of you even have grandchildren. Do it for them, I know about fund accounting and I know that everyone is not doing well financially. We all know this. We are asking this because it is the right thing to do. It will be hard and we may have to change the way we live slightly, but we can do this. We need to do this. Some how or some way. As the magical event at mile message said that was loud and clear, yes we can, YES WE CAN.

Thank you for time and God Bless each and everyone of you.

Think Globally, Act Locally

I love your dream and would see it as a great idea,..but, what would the city have to give up, fore go, or severly limit to accomplish this. What future city paid for development or improvements would have to be put on hold.
Dreams are needed and wonderful, but they have to have the plans and ability to reach to them.

To everyone here:
1) What service would you be willing to give up to the tune of a few million, to pay for this? (free trash and recycling for all in CC)
2) Would you be willing to have a tax increase for everyone to accomplish this?

Anonymous said...

It is a hard choice, and everyone just wants it to be done magically. We are talking about real money here and reality says that if this going to happen we have to make some hard decisions. Decisions that are not easy and are not easy for the city council to make either. The "just get it done" stance is not fair to the city council. All who carry this view, step back, and try to look at this in the city council shoes. Yes I agree it is a great idea and something that generations in the future would benefit from. But we have to deal with reality now. We have to deal with our current situation and that is everyone, and I mean everyone is having troubles now. We just need to maintain and get through this. Done the road when things start rebounding, we can and should look at this again.

City Council, I strongly think you have been put in a position where your decisions will not be a popular one, but it will be the one that is right.

Make the message clear: We are a city that will be green, but we need to maintain and survive now. And excellent questions asked.

Made a citizen committee would be a good idea too?

Anonymous said...

I am going to be really honest! I really do not like the idea of recycling forced on to me. I am not a big recycler, I know it sounds bad, but I am who I am. But I think that it is important that we keep the free trash pick up in this city. That is just is what it is and that is all I will say about that. If I continue I know I will get into trouble.

If the city has the opportunity to extended its current contract it needs to until we can wait for the economy to recover a little bit more.

Only my 2 cents, but it is my 2 cents.

Anonymous said...

Wow, a civil conversation! This is new and refreshing!

I know that there are people who are not really big on recycling, I will be honest too and state I do not recycle everyday. But I love the idea and the dream of the first recycling post (think globally, act locally). But, I live in reality and there just is no way that the city can take on this kind of a project without some major ramifications. I am not ready to give up or skimp on police protection and I want parks for the children and I want my streets to be drivable. Folks I am sorry to be the one to break the bad news to you all, but I think that if we want trash pickup in our city, we are going to have to have a new tax or the pay as throw program put into place. It is not (and it bears repeating) it is not a matter of “just do it”, it just is not in the realm of possibilities.

Suggestion to the council, Continue the current contract (if you can) and sort things out when the market recovers and we get gas under control.

I do not think we need a citizen committee, I think that we just need to let the management of this city do their jobs.

Anonymous said...

I will continue with the whole civilized theme and so I strongly agree that the council needs to keep the free trash service for the city some how. It was what was promised to us by Busby.

One thing I wish someone could clarify.

How do property tax and trash service have any kind of link? All I hear is that property tax doesnt cover trash service. Was there ever a link between trash service and property tax or is this just something that someone made up to make us feel bad.

As far as I remember, trash service has nothing to do with property tax. so stop saying it.

Anonymous said...

Personally I want trash removal, but I am not willing to give up our usual services or maintainence.

As far as Mayor Busby's promise. I am sure his dreams, hopes and promises were good. I doubt that he could imagine the rising costs of fuel, to the extreme level we have today, which is naturally going to impact the cost of waste removal.

We have to be resonable, and try to work and support the city in the best for all.

Anonymous said...

How the Hell can any mayor promise the citizens something for ever?! You ask me that is just irresponsible! Now I am glad I didn’t vote for Busby!

And yes please build a grocery store on 104th or tower or anywhere near my house!

No to recycling, not because I am against it, it is just the way wrong time to be thinking of a huge project as this one. Lets just ride this bad market wave out and regroup in six months. I do not want anything to be cut for this and I do not any more taxes. Needless to say I live in the North (River Run, newer part) and we already have our hands full and the fire department wants a mill levy override and we all know 27J will be coming around knocking again. And not to get to political here, but God help us all if Mr. DNC Obama becomes President. I will quote the NY Times “the tax man cometh”

I am for no cut backs, I do think you need good staff for city, and we should be talking about increasing Police Protection if we are going to have a conversation about adding some kind of a new program to the city. Where is the northern Police Department station?

Anonymous said...

I am not going to take this proposed question lightly, I have children and it breaks my heart every time I think of all the issues they will inherit because of our irresponsibility. We have to change our way of living. We have the most beautiful place in Colorado right out our front doors called the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge and it is a gift from God that most of us take for granted. We have Eagles and Bison, we are so lucky and I can not stand people who take this for granted. We need to have recycling be part of our city. I know that it will take sacrifice and I know the solution is not to have the city “take care” of it for us. I would like to see the free trash service continue, but more importantly, I would like to see the meetings for the Citizens for Recycling to be full of concerned citizens. We have recycling center already in place for citizens, we just have to make the time and the effort to actually use them! Just my opinion, but thank you for letting me have a place to put it.

Hate to break up the recycling convention that is going on.

I want to get back to the PR guy comment made. I would think that Commerce Citizens would want the mayor to have a PR guy during a press Q and A with media. My god, he even did a video, which was extremely helpful to me personally in forming my opinions. It was nice to hear from the Mayor himself.

I fully support Paul Natale and we do need to stop the recall. It would have been purely irresponsible for the mayor of Commerce City to not have the PR personal present at any kind of Press Conference. I think we all saw what happens when the PR personal is not present at a interview with a city official, for all of you who don't know what I am talking about, I am speaking of the interview with previous Police Chief Hebbard with Channel 4 reporter Brian Maahs. Clearly a huge blunder by the city staff and really the city council too.

Council, Extend the current contract and hit this issue again after we all get back on our feet. Clear Simple and Correct plan.

What we need to do is stop catering to illegal immigrants. That is one of the reasons we have such a bad reputation. Too many living in one home. Too many vehicles at one home. Too many reasons to drive down property values and interest in moving to the city. Adams 14 is one of the worst districts in the state because of the illegal immigrant mess. Schools are a major factor for businesses and families moving into an area. Like it or not If Commerce City is going to move ahead the illegal immigrant issue must be addressed because we’re spending too much money on them.

I was struggling with this post because I wanted to be politically correct, But the more I thought about it the more I got angry. Yes Commerce City does have a huge illegal immigration problem and no one wants to do anything about it.

I challenge the Gateway News or the Beacon or any news agency to take on this issue. How long do we have to suffer for people that have no regard for the laws of our land and are just laughing at us back in their own country.

I know that their are illegal immigration issues right here in Commerce City and the time has come where we need to address them.

NO city can solve their illegal immigration issues, with any permanence (cost prohibitive), unless the borders of our country arebbeing truely secured.
It is time that our federal leaders take real action to make this happen.
But alas, both parties are fearful, because they don't want to be seen as "mean spirited" or "politically incorrect" and risk loosing those voters who don't believe this is a problem. Also important, to both parties, is the potential voters they see in the illegal community. Why are some fighting the use of ID's for voting verification?
No matter what country someone comes from, they should be here with the full knowledge of our government. Only then can we have any possibility of security, employment protection, payment of taxes, as well as stopping the strain on the hospitals and schools.
Just my opinion!

you make a lot of good points, but I do not want to just sit here and do nothing.

If I do have a concern about, let say, a certain situation of illegal immigrants in Commerce City and I want to be annyoumous, how do I go about doing this?

Drives me crazy that I know of illegal activity and no one cares or is willing to strp up and deal with it because it is not politically correct.

I don't know for sure either.
My understanding is ICE is under staffed and under funded, so they often do nothing even when reported to.
If the city is told about specific unlawful problems, that also involve illegals, ie: too many people in a home (which violates zoning) etc, you should be able to go the askc3 part of the cities web site.
I know you can report things anonymously there.
If it anonymous, I don't know that you can get a response back.

To City Council:

I was in Derby and participated into some small talk and the issue of your upcoming decision of recycling and trash service come up.

I just wanted you to know that we all know what is the right thing to do is. Do whatever you can to continue the free trash service and forget the recycling program for now. It is the right thing to do and that is what the majority wants. You want to know how I know? Look at the recycling group, if recycling was such a important issue for our way of life here in Commerce City, we would have bunch of individuals that have loud voices and you do not need to cave into them!
