David Pocs Officially Announces Decision to Run for City Council of Ward III in November's Election

Thanks for all your help in the community.

I officially announced that I am running for the term limited Ward III City Council seat at the June 4, 2009 Commerce City Business and Professional Association (CCBPA) meeting. This group like our City is a diverse group of people and businesses. Ward III has been our Colorado home since moving here over six years ago from Illinois, and we cherish this diversity of people and business that makes Commerce City a great place to live.

Since moving here I have been involved with various groups in our community. I have served on the Zoning Board of Adjustments since 2005. I have been in the CCBPA, since 2006, and a Commerce City Rotarian. Through my various endeavors I have come20to know many of the community leaders, city staff, all of the current council members, and some of the “Founding Fathers”.I often think of the inscription on the Alma Mater statue at the University of Illinois that I walked by almost daily: “To Thy Happy Children of the Future, Those of the Past Send Greetings”.To those founding fathers and past city councils! I say thank you. You have built a great foundation to those “Happy Children of the Future”.

Many people have asked me why I am running for city council. When people say they have a calling, I now finally understand it, as this is mine. I feel my formal education in Economic/Urban Geography and MBA in Finance coupled with my work experiences in Economic Development, Retail Development, Affordable Housing, & Finance has led me to this run for election. I feel this combination of education, skills, experience & contacts w ill help move our city progressively forward. I look forward to working with the city council and staff to ask the right questions and create the win/win solutions with the prop! er tact and openness to create the “Quality Community for a Lifetime” that we all desire.

I live in ward III and I do not know any of you? Are you going to be at the outreach event put on by the city at River Run?

Mr Pocs,
I was at the outreach on Thurs and overheard you talking to someone about the city. You made some very rude and negative comments about the mayor.
I found that very offensive, especially since I had asked him about you previously. He said nice things
You lost my vote.

I highly doubt you heard rude and negative comments come out of my mouth about the Mayor. If you would contact me and let me know what I said, I would love to hear it.

If lies like this will be spread, how do you think good qualified candidates will step up. Why would I want to subject myself to this. It's disappointing that you anonymously spread something like this.

E-mail me at: pocs4cc@gmail.com I would like to know what I said.

Mr. Pocs I think you will get in, you are more known then other candidates in general.

Are you "running" with or supporting any of the other candidates in the race, Ward 1/At-Large?

I think it's a little premature to be endorsing other candidates or to be "running with" others.

I am glad to see David running for City Council. Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to get to know David and his family. David is a man with integrity who has already volunteered a substantial amount of time serving in our city and local community. Consequently, I believe David would be a great asset to our City as a Councilman.

First of all, as I have stated already, I know David to be a man of integrity—an important quality for everyone serving in a public capacity.

Second, David’s past service in our community has provided him with the experience needed to hit the ground running on our City Council. How productive our City Council will be in 2010 and beyond will depend on how well council members are prepared to manage and address the issues facing Commerce City.

Third, David’s background and experience in finance will be an asset to the City Council as they address the numerous financial issues this City continues to face. Nearly every decision the City Council makes has a financial impact. As a CPA myself, I am amazed at how many people who serve in a public office spend so little time evaluating and understanding the financial impact their decisions and proposals will have on the people they were elected to represent.

Finally, I know David to be a fair and reasonable person. I believe this comes from his already significant public service experience. He is aware numerous opinions exist on every issue this City faces, and I know he is willing to listen and evaluate those views that are different from his own.

David has my vote, and I am confident that if you take the time to meet him you will agree Commerce City will greatly benefit from his experience, knowledge and service on our city council.
