This is more about the person giving the address and not the address itself. As many of you may not know, this is the Mayors (Paul Natale) last state of the city. He should make it a goodbye, thank you address. Concentrating on the milestones he has brought the city to and beyond.

As far as theme, I would say continue on the path to good things. Keep it simple and to the point.

I would do what city does best, hire a consultant.

Core Comments said...

I would make the THEME be all about being GREEN. I would highlight ALL of the Green Efforts the city has done and reveal plans for what the city wants to do.

Lets re-define Commerce City as Colorado's GREEN CITY!

If I were the Mayor, I would thank the staff for all of their hard work and ability to think outside of the box. We would be no where without this great staff. We have a successful economic plan in place and great leader Jerry Flannery.

Would also thank Gehler (city attorney) for all of his hard work. Never know when he will retire ;)

Think we need to stick to vision, reality of the city is not that good if you are really in the know!

Does state of the city have to be given in both English and Spanish, like city news?

VC in CC said...

CC has a nationally recognized incentive program that the whole world needs to know about! Most Amazing thing this city has EVER done.
Staff is not only good, they are perfect. Maybe can even walk on water.
No doubt they deserve cars/houses/and whatever else we can give them.
see them on the street. please bow and thank them for all they have done.
we are truly blessed.

This is all about Paul Natale (the mayor). Do you all really know what is poor guy has been thru!
Back stabbing council, AGGRESSIVE MEDIA! many recalls!

If I was Paul I would go up to podium, tell everyone to kiss my ass, eat their cheap breakfast burrito and get the hell out of city hall!

of course this is just my opinion.

Curious in Reunion said...

I would shock everyone and open it up for a Q and A session.

Natale's last state of the city. hope people come. none of cc council even bothered to go to Brighton state of the city.

Curb Side Recycling, World Wide Recognized ED Incentive Program, CUMMINS, Business Summit? Amazing staff?

Is this really the best we can come up with?

Hyde said...

every time mayor says cummins or something about how wonderful staff is we all have to do a shot!

Sorry In the Know, this is not about the mayor or it being his last state of the city. This is about the people of the city; keeping them safe, giving them good services, roads and a healthy place to raise their kids.

needs to be all about being green, green and more green!

Dustin,
purpose of the state of the city is not to "wow the crowd" as you so elegantly put it.
it is to inform and encourage and should be taken seriously!

Anonymous said...

Thank you Gateway News for telling the truth here. Every State of the City that Natale has given has only been about "wowing the crowd". It has only been used as a platform to promote lies the city wants to tell to attempt to calm the angry crowds. So I would say this year Natale should apologize to the citizens for not caring about them, for not getting rid of a very bad city manager as soon it was apparent that Flannery was a bad choice, for not making Flannery pay the money he owes the citizens, for the problems that city employees faced, for the problems that businesses faced attempting to deal with the city staff, for not stepping in and assisting a failing school district, his complete disregard for what the average Commerce City citizens feels and has to live with AND for only caring about his own (Natale's) personal agenda and travel opportunities. Good riddance to the current city council and mayor.

How many jobs has the new Walmart brought to the Northern Range. Oh ya, they never came.

After Commerce City council figures out their priorities, I would release them in 2011 State of the City.

All about sustainability the 30/30/30 rule Commercial/Residential/Industry.

Promote this idea and try to stick to it.

promise us a bunch of things, push the dates out far enough until your no longer the mayor or until people forget and you got a great state of the city.

Commerce City Manager Flannery: King Soopers at 104th is progressing on schedule. Foundations could be seen as soon as end of August.

Anonymous said...

So, it looks like Kings might actually happen? This is all the mayor has to say in State of the city!

People see a grocery store in the north, that will be the Natale legacy!

Belle Creek Observer said...

I agree you could twitter the state of the city and not even bother giving a speech. all people care about is something is happening with the economy. Kings coming is great news. I FEEL BETTER ALREADY!

Archer said...

So we lose checkers but gain a kings. wal mart just on hold. Hey mayor in this economy that is NOT HALF BAD! Your SOC should be easy!

Mayor should thank the council for making China "COOL" again!!!!!!!!!!

Commerce City Mayor Paul Natale to deliver State of the City on Tuesday, April 26th, 7:30-9 a.m. at the Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Ave.

Anonymous said...

mayor will say business is GREAT. We added a TON of home businesses int he north. Oh, and about checkers and other businesses that went under. Well, we dont talk about them.

No to China said...

I bet we hear about how Commerce City is on the International Stage now, with China!

Still think getting in bed with a communist country is not a good idea.

Anonymous said...

Checkers being opened in the north range probably wasn't smart. Most don't change their oil or work on their cars.
Those pointing out its closing, my question for you...did you shop there??

Common Sense said...

no the state of the city of commerce city should not be spoken in spanish.

In 2007, the Missouri General Assembly approved HJR 7 to place on the ballot a proposed constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri. Voters then went to the polls and approved the measure with nearly 90 percent voting in favor. With that, English became the official language for all governmental proceedings in Missouri. It also means no individual has the right to demand government services in a language other than English. A common language is the cornerstone of a cohesive and united state and country. Ensuring that English is our official language is simply common sense.

Curious in Reunion said...

Commerce City up over 118%!!!!!

That needs to be in the state of the city!

Anonymous said...

Common sense, our state of the city has never been delivered in spanish.

The city commissioned their own census about 6 years ago. I think the population estimate was 47000 at that time. Did we shrink by 2000 people?

Anonymous said...

The fed census is more specific and accurate.
We have not shrunk.
The glass is half full not half empty.
Sadly some always look for the negative.

Anonymous said...

Did any of you stop to think that maybe the reason our population grew so much is because we got our brand new big houses cheaper in the north of Commerce City than in Brighton or other north areas. I know some of you won't admit that you chose location based on price and maybe some of you did not, but it was the reason most of us bought here and most of us had no idea it was Commerce City. And did any of you stop to think that maybe the house price was lower because the land was cheaper to developers because there were no services for residents and were not likely to be any for a long time - do you all really think it was an accident - sadly most of you are just ignorant about to how the world works and you won't admit you moved here for price and you won't admit that the price was low for a reason. Wait it out or move out!

I am worried if that was just a quick snapshot comparison of the years 2005 and 2010! I can not imagine what the entire business picture looks like.
I think we need to really look at the incentive program.
Those are right who say there is no way the city could possible know if their incentive program in successful if they have no clue on businesses going out of business and businesses losing huge employee numbers.
Not a good outlook.

Anonymous said...

Not shocked by this. All you have to do is go outside and when your driving to Brighton for your goods and services look around Commerce City. Beautiful vast empty fields of nothing.
It is just now the numbers fit the picture that everyone thought it was.
