I heard that someone wants to name the arsenal after Schroder.
That is a great joke....she fought tooth and nail, when in congress to not spend money cleaning up the arsenal, but to just fence it off!!
If that had happened we would be stuck with a huge contaminate piece of ground next to all of us!!
Yea, lets honor her!!
Someone has a sick sense of humor!

Anonymous said...

When I hear Pat Schroder, I think of her question many years ago at a federal hearing....why the feds spent so much money for cattleguards in the western U.S.
She felt that the feds shouldn't pay for people to guard the cattle.

FYI: for those who don't know, cattleguards are grates that keep the cattle from entering the highways.

Pat Schroder Open Space!

HELL NO!

She is way too controversial!

GN-I see your link to the Chinese possibly coming to Colorado. Do you have any information about maybe this coming? Maybe to Commerce City?

Archer said...

IS chinese at all in the exec session for monday?

Dustin, Gateway News said...

Recently, the Commerce City council has discussed the on-going relationships with the Chinese in the capacity of economic development. But nothing has been reported as something actually happening as of yet.

As far as the Monday Night Commerce City Council Executive Session. No one is suppose to know the specific details of the content as it could jeopardize the "deal" or potential outcome.

But any news I become aware of, I will report ASAP.

Great comments, thanks to you all, and keep them coming.

I know I keep asking, but can you ask the city of Commerce City why they continue to insist to print the city news in Spanish?

I think it is not right that we have a huge Hispanic population in Commerce City and not one Hispanic Council member!
So wrong!

I have been listening to council meetings over the last year and there was little council support for advancing the involvement with the Chinese connection, the mayor had made.
Some council members wanted guarantees of business coming, before they would support any more work with the Chinese.
Crap, we can't even get a guarantee an american grocery is gonna follow thru'
I heard at one of council meetings, that the mayor turned it over to the "metro mayors", in hope some city would pick it up, apparently that is what has happened.
Sad for CC.

A dwelling in Commerce City is defined as a $450,000 house in Reunion with no down payment, no interest, no mortgage payments, no taxes, no insurance, that a city manager squats in for four years. Where are the police? Isn't squatting illegal in Commerce City? Maybe we need additional amendments to our ordinances, like the additional amendments that have been added to the city manager's contract. Like the fifth amendment that comes due this September 2011.

Brighton has a large Spanish speaking population but all of there publications are in English only. If I go to Mexico, everything is in Spanish so what gives? Commerce City really just cannot do anything right, really they can't.

Rocks on 104th said...

Sounding like a broken record. A bunch of Rocks on 104th Avenue in Commerce City. BIG ones by Aspen Hills, Small ones by Pontiac.
Rocks on both directions.

Someone is going to get hurt!

Anonymous said...

Hey Rocks on 104th why don't you call or e-mail the City and let them know about the rocks? Maybe you can park somewhere on the side of the road and go remove them yourself since you seem OBSESSED with them. I drive that road from end to end in Commerce City every day both directions and I have only seen a handful of small rocks in the gutter in one area - stop making a mountain out of a mole hill and do something to fix it instead of whining about it on this blog which will do nothing to fix it.

PRO CITY said...

No, the residents should NEVER pull over on 104th Avenue and pick up rocks. 104th Avenue is a Truck Route and very busy. I repeat NO persons should get out and be on 104th Avenue to pick up rocks. Someone is going to get injured.

GN needs to inform the city this is on their website and then it can be taken care of by the professionals.

I just wanted someone to know that there was Rocks on 104th ave. I didn't mean to cause problems. There are the big rocks on the road by Aspen Hills. I am just so worried that a motorcycle will hit them and get hurt.

So can Gateway News tell the city?

I follow the twitters the Gateway News has on the sides of its websites.

So, first Happy BDay to Mayor.

I see the Mayor is very busy. I don't understand how anyone could do this unless they were independently rich or retired.

I was seriously thinking about running for mayor, but to be honest, I have to work full time and do not think I can.

I do not see how anyone could.

What do you all think?

Anonymous said...

What is scarey Yuri,it is likely some running for mayor will do it for the minimal pay, as they don't have a real job.
I heard that is how it worked in the past, then they got a city credit card that helped to fund their family expenses with the city tax dollars.

Cheo, Commerce City said...

You should not be doing Commerce City Council for the pay.

What was the original definition?

Was it bad?

Why do we to redefine?

Is redefining something like a name change?

too many commerce city staff and council are on too many things that say they are "metro denver"

Why do our staff and council need to help out denver.
personally i would like to see them stay close to home and work out our issues here in commerce city.
we really lost a good leader when Neelan left us.

Dusty,
RTD will still only have the one stop in Commerce City (actually not in the city limits) but at least near it?

Anonymous said...

I hate to burst anyone's bubble about being the mayor and all the "work" it requires (my sister is Council Member in a local City much larger City than ours and will be honest about it if you ask her) Sorry but the only real requirement is Monday night meetings - all of the appointments to "working" committees and so forth is for nothing other than show. I am sorry if you think that our Mayor or Council develop policy, legislation, do in depth analysis on issues or the like - it is just not true - the very well educated and experienced staff in these areas do the "work" and the Council show up to shake hands. attendance at these events, meetings, etc. is for show. You could serve perfectly well as a mayor or a Council person by only attending Monday night meetings and doing a little reading the night before - sorry but this is the truth - this is why it does not pay a full time salary - it is a very part time job. Attendance at all of the meetings, events etc. is OPTIONAL and has no real bearing on what does or doesn't happen in the City - sorry but the truth is the truth.

Dustin, Gateway News said...

Regarding the Rocks on 104th Issue:

City was notified, street maintenance crews went out first thing this morning and found several locations that had decorative/landscape rocks in the curb pan - which are being removed before they become a hazard.

Public Works Department will perform normal sweeping on 104th during regular sweeping operations scheduled for the weeks of April 28th and May 9th.

end note: Concerns can be left on AskC3 via the Commerce City website.

School Districts:
Throwing $ at education does not solve anything. It takes good leadership and good teachers. Something we do not have in Commerce City.

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/27310156/detail.html

Anonymous said...

LW I hate to tell you, but in a metro area like this, if you don't work together you will get something, but it is likely to be ignored.
The dollars often come from group pots such as DCOG, CDOT etc.
If don't work with your neighbors you will get nowhere.
CC is not an island, alone. By being involved in the whole metro area, we have a better chance.
Does Denver get the most...yes they have the biggest pull. But alienation does not work.

Anonymous said...

JMan, the biggest problem is getting competent, honest, people to run.
Contray to anonymous who's sister is on council, it does take hours of work. I have a couple of friends on CC council. Do they have to attend the "outside" meetings etc. NO!!, but to have our city represented, someone does.
You can as a council member, slough off and do little, many council members in many cities do, or take pride in your work and listen and work to "TRY" and do the best for the majority.
As someone mentioned, when you get blamed for everything and hear little else why put yourself there.
Then we get left with those who do it for the wrong reasons.

Anonymous said...

Pro city, having a Hispanic name or even being Hispanic does NOT mean you don't read English.
I am personally sick of that response.
My take is, printing in Spanish, implies we have a lot of Illegal people here. That is why most oppose the Spanish printing.
People feel you want to be here, you should assimilate and learn the language.

Cheo, Commerce City said...

On that same note, having a Spanish name does not mean your illegal either.

Estelle Remington said...

At the last citizen's communication, Guillermo Serna asked how the Boys and Girls club was progressing? The Mayor reminded him that an election was coming up in November and other city council members made "soon" comments. What was not mentioned was the fact that the last time the Boys and Girls Club addressed city council they asked for 2 million dollars of CC taxpayers money to start construction and it will cost about 1 to 2 million more each year to maintain this program after construction. Plus, the building will include various non-profit organizations. In the history of CC Boys and Girls Club, they were able to grow attendance to about 150 students a day. In comparison, Brighton has about 1,000 students attend their Boys and Girls Club each day. At that time, School District #14 offered school land next to Adams City High School to build on. What Mr. Serna was really asking is if this city council was now willing to put 2 million dollars up for a very small percentage of students. Because, all CC taxpayers will support this program for generations to come, location has always been a question. It appears that city council is once again trying to push through another multi-million dollar project before this next election.

Mr. Serna also suggested a Commission for Children. What structure or purpose for this Commission was not mentioned. It could mean the city would take on certain parental roles which would mean the city could write parental rules for children. Or, it could have to do with gangs and Juvenile crime in the city. It was not clear. Council women Carson thought this was a good idea.

As far as a commission for kids. Commerce City did have one. It was called the Youth Task Force. But like everything. It was formed, studied, and then forgotten about.
