Adams14 is making a big mistake with the potential separation with Superintendent Susan Chandler.

It will be great to have Phish play the Denver area - DENVER AREA. CC did not do ANYTHING to get Phish here. Dick's does not even need CC permission, so please lets not go down that silly Yeah CC road again the venue is attractive because of ample parking and large spaces - if something like this existed in Denver and Denver would allow it then it would be in Denver- most of the tax revenue generated by the event will go to Northfield/Denver like it did with the Mile High Music Festival. Should be a great show with lots of peaceful people.

Anonymous said...

I have heard that CC's cultural committee is planning music in the parks venue for this summer.
Don't know any of the details except live bands are involved.
This should be fun, as well as an opportunity for (local?) bands.

Erin NW said...

I think the music in the park will be this summer in River Run and maybe other parks around town.

Thad, Commerce City said...

I personally love the Phish is coming to Commerce City. I think it puts us on the map. I already know some who are complaining about not getting any real revenue from this Summer Tour and what impact it might have in the close surrounding area neighborhoods.

What I can say, is that Phish Events are the most peaceful event you can have! As far as city revenue, the good PR we are going to get is worth a million dollars.

No amount of money can buy that. People are going to start raising their eyebrows when the hear that Commerce City has attracted HUGE musical acts like Phish.

It is all good for Commerce City.

Anonymous said...

I would hope that the promoter of the phish event that is lasting 3 nights would have some kind of a conversation with commerce city.

at least for security plans and traffic logistics.

Maybe the new direction by some courageous Adams 14 board members will be the beginnings of the end of the reign of terror by the current administration and board president Lewis.

adams 14 would be smart to hire a Hispanic superintendent next time.

If Commerce City council even considers a 25 cents Toll on Tower Road as a "Potential Funding Source",
I will be very put out!

Feels like we are playing catch up!

GN-you need to let people know the Historic General Fund Revenues of Commerce City and back into who was in control on what years.

Anonymous said...

Wes,
You need to hear all the facts before just going off saying you would not support it.

City Governments need money to survive. It is nothing new. A lot of things need to be addressed. This is long term planning and I applaud the staff on addressing it now!

Instead of concentrating on CSAP scores D14 needs to go a different direction. We need to initiated a 100% bilingual school district.

If you do your homework, you will see this has been done before.

Anonymous said...

I will post somthing that many think but few will admit to.
It is time for people who come to America to learn the main language of this country.
There are schools in California who's hispanic families have sued to get RID of the bilingual programs. They believe it just slows down the assimilation into the English language.
This is not to say no help for ESL, but a quicker transition into the English language.
I must agree. Children learn quickly when encouraged to.
It has been said before and put down, but:
if I go to live in France, Germany, Spain or Mexico, I am expected to learn the language, accomdations are not made for ME.

Anonymous said...

Wes you my "friend" are transparent.
You need to recognize the economic history of CC. Bad economy stretches every city.

Anonymous said...

Reference to Kathy McIntyre's "call to public leaders.
With the growth in the north, there must be some leaders in the business arena (not politicans) who can use their expertise to run this city.
With what I have read recently about Adams county & been told of the history of Commerce City, it appears they have both been a good ole boys political place.
I think it would be great to see new faces with real & sucessful business experience come forward and run for council and mayor positions.

Once again this summer, Adams #14 School District will facilitate food services for indigent children and their families paid for by the United States Government food service programs. Indigent Children and their families can get free breakfast and lunch at Adams City High School, Dupont and Central Schools. Those over 18 years pay $1.50 for breakfast and $2.50 for lunch. Adams #14 says that this is because children need food to learn. During the school year, Adams #14 provides about 70 to 75% of it's students with free or reduced-cost meals and through a $5,000 Grant from QWest provides Backpack meals to School Children over School weekends. Which, one can guess that other family members partake of as well.

In an article in the Gateway News by Kathy McIntyre, Colorado's largest population density is in the metro Denver area and Adams County with 242,466 unemployed and 458,319 receiving food stamps so they can eat. So, why is this Federal Food program so important to Adams #14 each year? Commerce City's latest census shows that our population has doubled in these past ten years, that our Hispanic population is 47% in CC.

Adams #14 School District is largely funded by the "Oct. Count" Money received from the State for each student that attends their school district. With 7,500 students enrolled and about $6,500 for each child that amounts to about $48,750,000 per school year. So, Adams #14 can not afford to lose even one student in their district. If, these indigent children and their families have to move back to Mexico or out of district in these hard economic times it could negatively effect their school budget. So, they have to feed these poorer families over the summer months or they may lose them to another district. Of course, this is all at the expense of the American Taxpayers!

Moreover, Colorado legislators want to pass HR 1214 which would "construct school clinics to provide preventive primary and dental care and mental-health services. (What ever that means.) May 8, 2011, Denver Post. All one has to do to receive this free health care is to become a student in Colorado's schools. Therefore, future free medical services will be tied not to Social Services but to K-12 education enrollments "which comprises 43 percent of the general fund." " A federal law change allows those already on free and reduced-price school lunches and supplemental nutrition programs to automatically qualify for some State Medicare Aid." All one has to do to register is use a home computer. In 2006, "The legislature passed a bill largely prohibiting the expenditure of taxpayers money on illegal immigrants." This new health care for students will completely circumvent whether a student and/or their family is here illegally or not. Jan. 23, 2011, Denver Post.

Commerce City resident Rick Teter announces his intentions to run for Commerce City Council Ward 4 seat...

This is the US NOT MEXICO! We need an American to educate Americans not exhaust our tax dollars on people that should be returned to mexico. Persons who have come here legally have proved not to be a burden, learned the language and have become part of our fabric. These people who sneaked in should not be given anything. We have people on every continent waiting to get into the US. What about them? The illegals need to protest their government to give them opportunities and education in mexico.
Perfect time to send them home to make changes having a taste of democracy. mexico has lots of money they just rather burden the US than
build the country.

I was just watching Commerce City council and for those of you who missed it, please make sure to watch it on Channel 8 this week or watch the video on the city's website. I am humiliated that a presentaion so childish happened when we had our US Representative Ed Perlmutter in the room visiting us. It was so shocking. And you bring an elephant into council chambers when he is a democrat. Is there anyone working for the city or in elected office that has any dignity left at all? This was disgusting pure and simple.Jungle drums playing during a financial presentation. You have to see it to believe it, and if you are a Commerce City resident, it is embarrassing. I would have expected to see this at a preschool presented by four year olds. God Help Us!

I am watching ACSD#14 Board Meeting and I am dumbfounded by Vashaw telling Heintzman he trusted her with the informaiton she was giving when he does not trust the Principals & adminstrators to make decisions about teachers in their buidling. Do the Board members really think that the bad teacher who are wll liked by their students (coudld this be because they lack classroom management) I am not so old that I don't remeber liking the teachers who let us slide and do what we want. I wonder why Vashaws children no longer attend school in this district and his line that he does not feel they can get a good education is bunk, what is the real reason and where does his family live? Quintana has finally slowed down referring to the Latino students, it is about time he realized he is here for all students, or has he? or is he just watching what he says. Double Block and you think our parents will not understand that how insulting to our community that you would act like we would not undersatnd. Apparently you are not the brightest brick on the block (Your words not mine) Schimpf, I had such high hopes for you and all you are is a puppet of the other 2 board members and your mother in law. Do you have a thoguht of your own. Finally, can we really afford to let Chandler go? Is Lange's contract paid off? Just how deep do you think our pockets are? Why when employees are not getting raises and classified have not had one in 4 years, do you want to waste money on searching for a new superintendent. Are you going to get rid of anyone who will not bow down and give you what you want.

Anonymous said...

I am not sure why there is not a recall of certain board members. Are the board members following policy when it come to meeting or are they being sneaky and have one of the board members mother in law go and she can then tell him how he should act. Why doesn't she just run, oh wait he did not run either he was appointed. I wonder what will happen when he has to actually get votes.

GO KARL HOOPES! Way to add to the HD 32 circus!

Scene From the Doug Darr trail:
"Former House District 32 candidate Kaarl Hoopes walked in to court, through the gallery and proceeded directly to the court clerk’s desk where he squatted to ask a question. The judge watched him closely, not knowing who he was or why he had entered the court. The jury changed their attention from witness testimony, also watching as Hoopes entered, then exited the well of the court.
Immediately, Blackburn called recess and dismissed the jury.
He returned to the bench, called Hoopes forward and admonished him with a scolding just half a step shy of incarceration for contempt of court. Hoopes was banned from ever entering Blackburn’s court again."

Adams14 is making it really hard to find a good superintendent.
No one is going to want to be part of this fiasco!

Adams district 14 struggles every election to find smart competent people to run for the school board.
Why is anyone suprised that this district is in shambles. Who on the current board has the education or common sense to direct it?
No doubt it is a challenging district to run. With so many transient families, english second language learners, & lack of education priorities at home. Then you add board directors who run with their own little "plans" rather than the students best at heart. None are willing to make the right tough decisions.
If I had children in school now, I would be angry at some who suggest it become all bi-lingual. The hispanic population needs to be recognised and respected, but they are not the only people or race represented. All students need to be included and taught!
Someone with a back bone and smarts needs to run this district, hmmmmm it might have to go to the state for that too happen.

Wow I was reading all this inside information that someone gave the the person who is posting all this so called secret meetings on Adams 14. Sounds like someone in a high position has inside sources for all this. If you would go to the meetings you would know the goings on, and not depend on other people. These B.O.E. are volunteers. They are just that VOLUNTEERS. Who by the way were voted in. Schimpf did run it is not his fault you didn't run against him. In either case he would have won. Why don't you run for the board and do a better free job
for our kids. Everyone is always an expert but can no good deed. You seem to know so much about all the inner runnings in the B.O.E that no body hears about or you have an insider tht is extremely close to you. Just try to see what the students are going through and the employees. The students are intimidated the employees retaliated against if they dare open their mouth with differant ideas. The parants have come to speak, watch channel 8 or request a DVD from the District, of course at a cost to see for your self. Don't be quick to judge! Always weigh the the pros and the cons.

The May 16,2011, City Council meeting was like a school presentation for a grade in front of the Principal of our Congressional representative, Ed Perlmutter. I hope that Mr. Perlmutter is smarter than all of this. This presentation included 4 goals and 16 objectives, some from 2010, listed from the last retreat that appeared to be just a smoke screen to make us look like we had done our homework. These goals and objectives are only measurable when completed. So, this is just so many words on paper to make us look good to others. There is far too much to achieve in one year given the broken mess we are currently in.
Roger Tingleberg, whom I consider to be one of the best Financial Directors in the State, was unprofessional in his grade school presentation of finances using a blown up elephant, ice cooler and really loud drum music. Actually, we could not hear his presentation until the drums stopped. We are all adults not grade school students!

Mr. Flannery found his voice for the first time since taking office and it sounded like he was just trying to keep himself in the spotlight to look good to Mr. Perlmutter. All in all, there was a great deal of showmanship designed to make us all look like we are doing our jobs and offices here in CC.

Will council please start to listen to Glenn Murray about the Prairie Dogs! This is a plague waiting to happen. Colorado has Deer mice and rats that carry fleas infested with the Black Plague.

In Comcast's Interview with CM Jerry Flannery, Flannery said that CC's 2010 increase in population was due to the 2001 build-out by Shea homes in the Northern Range. Ward 2 in the Northern Range has a population of about 8,000 + which added to our 2000 CC population gives us about 28,000 population. Our current population is over 45,000 or a difference of about 17,000 residents. Flannery said that another reason our population has doubled is because we have a larger zone of Industrial development than neighboring Cities which really has changed little since 2000. In fact, Brighton has added much more Industrial and retail sales development than we have in these past ten years. Flannery painted a picture of strong economic development in that we have added about 400 jobs and given incentives to new and growing businesses. But, Flannery made no mention of our immigrant population which has doubled in these past ten years. Viewers already know that CC's population growth comes from increased immigration, no wonder, people laugh at us. People already know the truth. We can not move forward as a city until we own our problems. Immigration must be acknowledged before we can move forward. When almost half of our city is living at or near the poverty level and families go to bed hungry at night, we need to speak the truth about what is really happening here in CC because it is already common knowledge. This is a prime example of the selective processing that occurs in our political scene. This is a perfect example of what happened in the sale and Bonus of Flannery's house in Arizona in that the whole truth was not forthcoming. Hence, the thinking process has not changed on the part of city management. We need the whole, honest truth in CC or outsiders will not believe us nor trust us.

Zeek said...

Again, how do we know this increase is a immigrant population?

Are we just ignoring the fact that Commerce City is a sanctuary city?

Cheo, Commerce City said...

Zeek,

A sanctuary city is a term given to a city in the United States that follows certain practices that protect illegal immigrants. NOT just a city that has a huge immigrant population.

Zeek said...

so, commerce city has no illegal immigrants?

Irene, CC said...

Good question Zeek. But it is not politically correct to address this issue.

The visitor center is really a big deal for Commerce City and that area. They are predicting a large amount of visitors throughout the years and those visitors will attract business to come to that area (Victory Crossing).

This really is a WIN-WIN for Commerce City and all of its residents.

Estelle, I have read enough of your rants before, to know you make huge leaps with little facts.
I don't know where you get your information, or how you come up with your, "jumps of thought", and assumptions. I can only guess where you get the numbers of illegal people in the city (guess they must contact you & trust you with their details).
I personally believe..... I repeat, I personally believe you hide behind your "knowledge" and "concern" for "people's welfare", but are truely a bigoted person.
There are just too many signs leading that way.
Like I said..... MY belief.

Nancy, Commerce City said...

Great coverage of visitor center.

Estelle Remington said...

Anonymous, Thank you for allowing me to expand on my thoughts. My information on Mr. Flannery's "not being forthcoming" comes straight from his public record, i.e., contracts, e-mail and city receipts. Amendments to his contract and house bonus were discussed in an Aug. 31st, 2009 city council meeting. He signed the contract to sell his house on Sept. 6, 2009 for a large profit and received the first half of his bonus payment on Oct. 1, 2009. Thus, at any time, he could have informed the city attorney of his house sale. His house contract gave him an open opportunity to make payments against the principal at any time in these past three and half years and he has refused to come forth with any money. My statistical information comes from the Angelou Economic study which also breaks down the 47% Hispanic population according to education and earnings. City Council gave an award to the Mexican Consul for their speedy processing of about 6,000 new arrivals to CC. I did not use the word illegal, you did. The Adams #14 School District provides 70 -75% free and reduced-meals to indigent children - their word not mine. This summer Adams #14 will facilitate a federal food service program to indigent families here in CC. When, I worked CC Forums, I learned first hand from volunteer students just how hungry their families were and sent home left over food with them and other volunteers. I remember one young man taking home 2 dozen tacos to his brothers and sisters from our Latin Forum. Yes! I was the first one to hold a Latin Forum to register voters using Spanish forms with Hispanic volunteers and lobby for Spanish translators in elections.

Since, you do not give your name, I don't know how you know so much about me personally. A bigot is a person that does not tolerate others opinions- such as yourself. You too can have knowledge on a subject if you gather data, like I do.

Core city witness said...

FYI Everybody; Estelle Remington is correct about the data on CC and Adams 14 populations. Check it out for yourself, it is easily researched. In fact, there are many documents to substantiate what she wrote. The poverty level at Adams 14 is staggering. It is also true that she was the first person to take it upon herself to educate CC spanish speakers on CC laws, voting and holding forums for Latinos. Many of us witnessed her compassion and respect for all.

give the mexican consul for returning the illegals to mexico. what a selfish country. they torture hispanics from south american trying to get to the US because it interferes with their citizens sneaking in.

too many are waiting but can't get into our country because of their burden to us. stop the insanity and
start requiring proof of citizenship in our elections. send them home and make them force the mexican government to make changes in mexico.

Hyde, review the May 12, 2011, city council meeting and you will see that an award was given to two Mexican Consul representatives for reducing the process time of immigrants from 9 months to one week and it was said that they processed 6,000 applications. They are being transferred to Chicago, Ill. where there are thousands of immigrants waiting to be processed. I don't know if they are being replaced here in CC.

Yes they are a general outlook of the general view.

Key word is GENERAL.

I think we do need to concentrate on economic development first and fore most.

Should be our number one priority.

Second should be our school system. It is bad, no other word to describe it.

We will be okay, time will march on. If we want to move forward we will get the right people in place and do so. If not, we will continue in our current rut and others will wave as they pass us by.

Gateway News,
Can you get the numbers of illegal voters in CC?
Our council members are worthless because of it; They refuse to make the hard decisions to protect US citizens.

funny how IL welcomes illegals so the can fraudulently vote. Little do the illegals know: if they ever offer a true amnesty which will cause a civil war - they will check and prosecute the illegals who voted illegally....stupid people

It's part of the background check.

Estelle,
First of all the counsel for Mexico is in Glendal/Denver area. Not in CC.
The counsel in Colorado represents a number of states.
The next closest is in Chicago.
Therefore the 6,000 applications for consulate cards represents immigrants from a number of states.
Please don't confuse the facts and make it something it is not.
I made calls and found out the entire story.

Both Republicans and Democrats had ads.
Petition was for term limits.

Was there.....it was hardly the "entire" democratic or republican party in the parade.
I personally don't like those running for office marching in the parade.
Having the parties (dem & rep) marching, without endorcing people doesn't bother me.
Seeing groups with t-shirts for people running for upcoming office does.
Guess our men have died to give us this right.....still don't care for it, it is poor taste.
