dusty,
thank you for putting info on the “FLAT 14ERS INITIATIVE” on your health page. I thought no one really cared about it.

Commerce city could have become so much more. Any history should have been the stepping stone for moving into the future. Clearly, economic development went to Stapleton/Northfields, Aurora, Denver and Brighton bypassing Commerce City altogether. Pro City's response is always "let's be positive and patient". On its face, this attitude is condescending and flippant but more importantlly reflects the city's lack of urgency and lack of spirit to go out and fight for what is needed to take Commerce City into a brighter future. All this talk about voting to be part of Brighton shows that the residents in the north are losing hope for anything better. I suspect that the people in the southern part have already lost all hope due the complete breakdown of their school district.

I agree, the virtual 14er climbs with school districts is a creative and worthy program. Can't wait to see how many kids participate.

Any news on King Soopers?

@ProCity - why do you list this group of businesses with no phone numbers. If we were going to patronize them we need to be able to call them and find out what they do and what days and hours they are open? Please go back and post phone numbers too. Thank you!

Commerce City Voters - PLEASE go to the city's website and go to the video center and listen, REALLY listen to the citizens that were being asked to get appointed. There were only two candidates that actually knew about the city's poor financial condition. How scary that a citizen was appointed that lives in the mayors land of cotton candy and fluffy clouds and sunshine. We needed someone with a financial background who cut finally say CUT THE PORK AND THEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO INCREASE REVENUES. Duh???

BOR said...

very good point, I would like to have the phone numbers too of the "look who just moved in"
I am still having a hard time getting the business The Little Mustard Seed the city announced months ago.

King Soopers in the final stages of reviewing an opportunity in the Reunion area. They would look forward to serving the Reunion community.

Anonymous said...

general question: Reunion has it's own police and fire department, if a post office opened there, can adjacent neighborhoods join their metro district and become an autonomous city??

Why Brighton over Denver for the northern enclave??

Denver name would bring more business given our location with respect to the airport.

Getting closer to November and we need to make some tough decisions and get the north voters to the polls.

so the xcel presentation at commerce city council was just ridiculous, and they completely missed the point that we don't care about the pipeline safety, we care about the idiots that will drill into it or hit it with a bulldozer and cause a big KABOOM! and maybe xcel should google natural gas pipeline explosions in the united states and then they would understand our concerns. the days of covering up accidents is over, thank you wikipedia

The Commerce City council actually did a good job tonight when faced with a $4 million dollar list of expenses, they at least questioned and asked for an explanation. But the Commerce City staff did a horrible job tonight because the documents, which are public record, that the auditor was referring too were NOT on the city's website. Also whoever is doing the video, why don't you put the camera on the overhead screen so we can see the information, we don't need to see the speaker, we need to see the information, maps, etc being presented.

HOPE THAT EVERYONE GOES TO STUART MIDDLE SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 29 FROM FIVE TO EIGHT PM FOR THE XCEL OPEN HOUSE. IT IS A BIG PIPELINE AND IT CAN EXPLODE IF ANYONE HITS IT, LIKE A ROAD CONTRACTOR, COMCAST, CITY WORKERS, SOUTH ADAMS WATER, ETC. WON'T MATTER HOW SAFE THE PIPELINE WAS OR HOW "ODORIZED" THE GAS IS. GOOGLE NATURAL GAS PIPELINE EXPLOSIONS.

Anonymous said...

Why don't the citizens get to see what the council sees when it comes to how money is being spent in the city?

Anonymous said...

So someone please tell me how energy companies get natural gas to homes all over the country to heat water, dry clothes and cook food. I always thought (silly me) that they would have to have large gas pipelines running through populated areas and then have smaller gas lines that tie into the big ones that run to homes and businesses (you know like water supply systems). This clearly is not the case - they must get it to the homes for use all over the country by MAGIC - there can't be any other explanation -except maybe gas pipelines - and we all know that is a new thing that Excel is trying out in poor old Commerce City. The stupidity some of you show is legendary - please do us all a favor and don't vote and stay off the blog you obviously lack the intelligence to take part in civil discourse.

I thought from mayors state of city address that King Soopers was a done deal? Been waiting.

So it is official, CC will not get the national western stock show. There was always this glint of hope that this might end up in Commerce City.

I just dont think we are big enough. the whole Adams City idea is looking better and better.

Anonymous said...

RE: Safety Dance

I think Commerce City is now allowing the "boot leg" signs for houses. Kind of a desperate times desperate measures type deal.

BOR said...

Western Stock show would have fit nicely at Victory Crossing. Guess it HAD to go next to Gaylord Hotel.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to Erik Hansen for his leadership fellowship to Harvard! Always thought he would do well for us.

Anonymous said...

Its a crying shame that the National Western and the Gaylord did not come to Commerce City. Well, its good for the area around DIA anyway and the Gaylord hotels are magnificant.

Gateway, What types of businesses are interested in the sites by the new King Soopers? Very exciting.

Gateway News said...

Nothing has been announced yet, but as soon as we hear anything we will post as ASAP.

I would Love to see a Applebees or Chilis to come in the area of Kings!
Very Exciting!

Xcel using COAL producing electricity to power the transportation of the natural gas to power Downtown Denver?

n. citizen said...

not to sound like a broken record. But when Kings does come, life in n. range will be a lot easier.

Denver jury acquits Xcel Energy in workers' deaths but lets see what happens when the consultant goes to trial later this year. Two RPI executives are charged along with their company. They could face jail time if convicted.

Side Note: will Xcel use consultants on the Reunion pipe gas line?

my GOD what a horrible thing! There is so much accidents in Commerce City with children. I hate hearing stories like this. I hope this little boy will be okay.

vikki said...

If mile high market place doesn't change their rules. Commerce City needs to step in with an ordinance.

No excuse having a child being injured at a place where you are suppose to be shopping worry free.

Anonymous said...

bad news for the flea market. sure they are struggling as it is.

Kings guarenteed to have "pylons" in place in August as per contract with the city.
The "verticle" comment/idea was someone's conjecture.
No, Kings adjacent pads sales have nothing to do with King's building.

C_City Voter,

Your comment says:

"Reunion has it's own police and fire department, if a post office opened there, can adjacent neighborhoods join their metro district and become an autonomous city??"

Reunion has NOTHING on its own. The Police Services are provided by the city of Commerce City. The Fire Services are by South Adams Fire District.

In order for Reunion to be its own city, it would have to have a vote to de-annex back into Adams County then have a city next to it agree to annex it in. This would take a petition of citizens.

The process is not as easy as some would make it out to be.

dusty,
I see that you twittered the news about d14 school board 17 hours ago. Were you there?

Dustin McIntyre, Gateway News said...

I did go to the school board meeting for Adams #14. I sat and talked to some wonderful people for about 3 hours, then I gave up and left. I got the news from a resident who was strong enough to stay, God Bless Him!

So Xcel will be shutting down 350 megawatts in 2012 but the new natural gas facility won't be on-line until 2015. Does that mean we have three years of intermittent outages to look forward to?

Anonymous said...

Its just got to stop! Commerce City has to stop letting agencies put the worst of the worst in Commerce City!

Anonymous said...

Disturbing article about Commerce City and xcel in the Denver Post today. Thanks to all who spoke up!

FYI,
I was at a fund raiser at the Palms on Wed and heard Steve Farber say that he expected everyone there to support Tracey Snyder for her run for House district 32. That was followed by an enthusiastic response by Ed Perlmutter stating, he would be supporting Tracey also.
Congrats Tracey..... for the great support coming your way!!

Anonymous said...

Gateway, which school board members voted for keeping Chandler as superintendent of Adams 14? The voters need to know because there is an election coming up in November.

Anonymous said...

Tracey Snyder will be a good House Rep for Commerce City and all of District 32.
