Commerce City Weed Ordinance

This issue has been ongoing since the Gateway News started. Currently it is illegal to have weeds on your property that exceed six inches. The council now is looking to possible change the weed ordinance to weeds not exceeding eight inches within twenty feet of the property line or within twenty feet of any public road for private properties larger then one acre.

What are your thoughts?

Personally like most rules/laws, they are written for the few that are not considerate of others.
As corny as many would think it sounds.
If people would treat others with the respect and consideration they want to be treated with ie: the golden rule, what a different place this would be.
Oh yea, I think the 8 inch rule for weeds is probably a little more realistic!

I was told the so called rule was setup for a easy path for a judge to take in case it would every go to court.

Makes sense to me.

You can not enforce this law it is humanly impossible. It was ridiculous from the beginning.

At least this current council is taking the time to re look at this.

I thought it was already changed? Am I wrong?

It was only studied, no action taken as of yet.

The reality is the fact that the judge does need a clear cut black and white law to go on. It will be virtually fruitless to have the new proposed ordinance.

Hate this law!

Hate this?

This summer maybe you should drive around town and you will see why we need this in place.

City does follow this Ordinance, so why do we have too?

If the city would actually enforce this law you would not have those tumble weeds that the council was so recently concerned about.

What do you think of that?

Hello....anyone home. City hall gets tons of tumble weeds due to their location by the arsenal.
Do you really thinkg that can be cut back. Kind of defeats the natural grounds for the animals??
Also, I believe, the large areas of unimproved lots are only required to cut back in proximity to their exterior boundaries.
This is complaint driven, as no city has enough staff to drive around constantly to measure weeds.
If we followed the earlier bloggers suggestion of responsiblity & consideration, this would not be a problem.

I think all weeds growing on private property are wrong. Doesn't matter how tall even one inch. Take some pride in your property for goodness sakes. Why do we have to have laws to control people that have no self respect?

Willie and Skyler, is this a contract dispute? I know a good lawyer.

From all the tumbleweeds to Willie and Skyler, please help us. We are not six or eight inches tall. We are round and we roll all over town with no restrictions. We are very concerned what will happen to us if people keep complaining. Maybe fence us in???? They can't cut us down but maybe you can help represent us??

Then you tell me how it is fair that Neighborhood Srvs gives tickets to poor and sometimes elderly citizens, but do not give tickets to some of the developers or the RR companies!?

Since this is complaint driver, did it ever occur to you "core comments" that many of those reported are by other seniors and "poor people" calling on neighbors.
They are tired of their neighbors letting their yards and homes become neglected.
It affects the value of all homes in the neighborhood. It is called taking pride in their homes!!
I have heard that one of the main reasons Ms Teter ran, was consistant complaints about the homes becoming trashy.
I have also been told that the Railroad has more pull and protection than the United Post Office, they basically don't have to listen to anyone.
One thing that is consistant about you....is you always find fault with this city!
My question to you, have you looked in the mirror?

I thought Police only gave out warnings first, not a "ticket" or summons when it comes to over grown weeds.

The Commerce City Department that deals with Ordinances and Codes Regarding Weeds, Brush, Limbs, and Shrubs is not the Police Department, but rather the Commerce City Neighborhood Services.

Not for sure, but I think it might be because they studied it during the months when weeds were not an issue because of the cold.

Just a thought.
