Should Commerce City Invest in a relationship with China for Economic Growth here?

Background: Chinese investors are pouring money into new construction, new factories, new businesses, and joint ventures. Chinese consumers are buying up goods like crazy. Retail sales are soaring. Loan growth at Chinese banks is still on fire. Now, even the rural areas of China are exploding higher with economic growth.

Common sense answer: yes

Tim Dalton said...

I can understand why some would want to recall Jim Benson, but we need to stop being so recall trigger happy here. Looking at the Angelou report, seriously at this point we need to concentrate on making our city better and not scaring anyone else off with a recall attempt.

I still believe that recalls should be last resort and used for such crimes as embezzlement or gross malfeasance.

I think it is funny that people are making predictions. The popular combo is leffel, serna,McEldowney,Hahn.

I find that hilarious.

All you who have not voted yet, you have until 7pm tues. Drop it off at the commerce city hall or other locations.

who is going to run for south adams county water and sanitation district board???? that election is coming up very soon in April 2010. we will never have any real growth in the north part of Commerce City until we get rid of the current corrupt board and turn the water board over to the City of Commerce City. News Flash City of Brighton owns and controls their own water so maybe that is the difference. Duh?????

Yes lets work with China. Maybe they have water!!!!!!!!

Commerce City attorney Bob Gehler just said that the city had won the lawsuit with Enclave West the S&M club in Commerce City. If we won that lawsuit, why is that club still open in Commerce City?

Anonymous said...

I am listening to City Council, Commerce City Attorney Bob Gehler is saying that the city needs the medical marijuana ordinance passed because he does not want the same situation that the city had with the sexually oriented businesses a few years back. City had to go to court then, are we just afraid to go back to court?

I think that the City of Commerce City should have more security outside city council chambers since some of the candidates are so volatile. After election everyone should be very cautious.

Jim Benson should get the whole story first. If the pay raises are for the little guys. I say NO PROBLEM! Just goes to show how well off our city really is!

I don't have any issue with issue with staff getting raises, but council getting health insurance is a little odd, they still are part time, right?

If any of the citizens had a issue with council getting health issues you had your chance to address it with council, about 2 weeks ago. You missed out!

everyone without medical insurance should run for city council in commerce city as the city is going to pay for insurance for council members, your tax dollars at work

Anonymous said...

No Walmart in Reunion anytime soon it sounds. City Manager said that there has been no news but they will lose incentives if they don't make decision in near future.

Debra Bullock said...

Reba should have left. Scott and Orval should get up and leave too. What a disgrace for the city council to allow the 4 members of council going off to say a few words in less than 15 minutes and then the Mayor says"If anyone would like to get up and make any comments you may do so and the rest of you can go to the back and get some food" Well 200 people getting food and people talking is totally disrespectful. Mayor Natale your actions speak louder than words and I just hope that all the people that you don't want on Council get elected so you can be put in your place. You are totally arrogant and rude and an embarassment for the city and a slap in the face for all the people who came out to pay their respects for the 3 people that have just spent 8 years of their life for the city which obviously you don't give a damn about. You should be ashamed. Maybe you should have thought this one out a little better.

Anonymous said...

Looking at the agenda, I thought that the first 20 or so minutes was to honor all of the outgoing council members, not a Reba Drotar reception.
I have known her a long time and for someone who pretends to be humble, she really loves the attention and limelight.
I am glad the time was limited (too bad Drotar took up most of it) or the meeting would never have started!
p.s. she used to talk soooo bad about the CARZ club, what a change.

Anonymous said...

I am shocked that Debra Bullock was unhappy with the mayor. Here I thought she would have supported him!!Ha Ha
Debra the other writer was correct. This wasn't suppose to be an on going meeting about those that have been on council.
It was a scheduled recognition for them. You are certainly welcome to hold a party for them yourself.
If Reba hadn't gone on and on others could have talked, she knew that amount of time that was set aside, but chose to continue to talk.
The other council members realized this is still a city meeting.
They were considerate of the citizens, not Ms Drotar!

Anonymous said...

The COUNCIL MEETING, had 20 min set aside to show thanks for the outgoing members.
Drotar used up 15min , the mayor extends the time to 45min.
There still was a meeting planned right?
I just thank God Reba didn't get started on the arsenal, or we would still be listening!
I bet the only ones upset by this time limit was the Drotar entourage.
Their friends and family can honor them as they wish.
Besides isn't this the first time something really special with food etc was planned for the out going members?? When is enough enough?

We need to vote for those who don’t mind us parking on our lawns. I can have junk cars and trash in front of my house because it’s my house. We don’t need those north people using them fancy big words because they went to college. We want Commerce City to stay as it was. We don’t care about improving our image we lived here for over 20 years.
LET’S PUT A STOP to this advancement crap and vote for Bullock, Lefel and Romine.
My house is still worth what I paid for it over 20 years ago so the good ole boys know what they’re doing.

"Balance", that thought is such a joke. I think Colette is right this is a plan for Benson and Rene to tag team to go after the mayor.
Now Rene will have to watch HIS P's & Q's.
He won't be able to do his sneeky little plans, nor hit the city up for his personal benefit.
For those of you that voted for him, I can't say that I respect your choice, but I do respect your right to vote.
I do believe things happen for a reason, sometimes those lessons are painful.
For those that didn't vote...shame, shame, shame!

Elections are over. If you voted, congratulations! If you did not vote, why did you make that choice?

Congratulations to all who won, and thank you to all who made the journey.

I am so proud of the many citizens who took the time to run in this election. The time, money and energy the candidates expended is very commendable. A new city council will be seated soon. I encourage all our citizens to attend as may council meetings as possible. Get involved. Our community is growing. The council needs direction and input from everyone.

I would be remiss if I did not congratulate and extend a big thank you to the outgoing city council people. Reba Drotar, Scott Jaquith, and Orval Lewis have served our community well for a number of years.

I have one last request. Please pick up all the election signs quickly.

ATTENTION SOUTH ADAMS COUNTY WATER AND SANITATION DISTRICT CUSTOMERS AND TAXPAYERS

You might want to attend this meeting where an increase in both your water and sewer rates are being discussed. Since the district does not actually publish their legal notices in your local newspaper, we are not sure how you would know about this or how you could ever voice your opinion at a public hearing you were not aware of.

We were told in a phone call to the district that they covered their minimum legal requirement by posting this on their website and that usually most public hearings are poorly attended.

They did acknowledge they should do a better job at outreach. They use the Northglenn Thornton Sentinel as the newspaper to post their notices, a newspaper that is not home delivered anywhere in the city of Commerce City.

A Humble Thank You to Brighton Voters

Brighton, CO – I would like to extend a humble thank you to Brighton voters for your amazing support over the course of the recent mayoral election. With a mayoral race that involved five candidates, your votes granted me an unprecedented lead after votes were tallied last week. It was not expected that any one of the candidates would garner a significant lead… your votes proved otherwise!

I would also like to thank Dick Hodge, my friend and colleague, for conceding the race after a run-off election that would have cost our community an estimated $25,000 was announced. Initial election results reported that I was shy just five votes from winning the majority vote as outlined by our current City Charter. Although I had a 25% lead over Hodge, the second place candidate, and had garnered over 49% of the total vote our City Charter allowed for a run-off election if fifty-percent of the votes plus one were not achieved. So even though I had the majority, Hodge had the ability to proceed with a run-off election in an attempt to win the mayoral race. By conceding, Hodge ultimately saved our city $25,000 for a run-off in an election that was certain to have ended with the same results. Thank you Dick Hodge for doing the right thing.

I cannot begin to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to the citizens of Brighton for the opportunity to continue to serve you. I am honored and proud to serve as your mayor and will work diligently over the next four years to continue leading our community in the right direction. Thank you Brighton!

Sincerely,
Dick McLean

In-State Tuition

At a recent meeting of 140 parents and community members of the Adams 14 School District, both Robert Vashaw and Adrian Schimpf "stated their support for in-state tuition for all students, regardless of immigration status." Currently, even returning veterans can not get in-state tuition. Adams 14 School District currently has a 77% Latino student population. Each school year, Adams 14 suspends 27% of it's student population due to discipline problems. Out of a total school population 140 parents and community members or about 2.4% of Adams 14 members expressed an interest in in-state tuition or about .035% of Community members. The Adams 14 School District is the lowest rated school district in the entire state of Colorado. This school district has failed in it's mandate to educate the children of Commerce City. Even though, taxpayers pay the same rate of tax dollars as the rest of Colorado and Adams 14 receives the same rate of $7,000 per student per year that the rest of the other school districts receive. It seems as if Vashaw and Schimpf are throwing out a "plum" offering for immigrants in the form of in-state tuition for continued support of a failing school system. (Gateway News, Nov. 6,2009.)

It is time to reorganize an entirely new school district in Adams 14. How long can Commerce City taxpayers allow precious educational dollars to be thrown away each year? Let's look at some numbers: If, we have a total school population in Adams 14 of about 7.000 students per year and take that times 9 years (About how long we have been below standard.) that equals 63,000 enrolled students over that period of time. If, only 42% of those students graduated that would be about 26,460 students. Which means that about 36,540 Commerce City students have failed to graduate in these past 9 years. These numbers are a disgrace to any educational community. Adams 14 needs to close down and reorganize a completely new school district. Then, if we figure the Adams 14 budget per year is about 62 million dollars times 9 years the cost of a failing school district just goes out of sight. No group of taxpayers should be forced to support this kind of poor education for our students. Let parents have some kind of voucher! For those parents that worry their children will not graduate. Go to another school district of choice and ask for open enrollment. Any Commerce City resident can use open enrollment for their children. But, hurry only a few slots are currently available. Other school districts will be full by 2011-12.

Hello Kenji Sato,

I am glad you told us this. I did have 2 comments that were not published.

I will send them again.

Sato said...

Yes please send all comments again. I just have to get used to Dustie`s process. I would ask that please no more comments that contain racism about hispanic population.

just some quick background about me. I live in Osaka Japan and went to school with Dustin. I basicall do the samething Dustin does at the Osaka Shimbun Newspaper, I have been watching the stream of your city council every week. I also talk with Dustin all of the time about the political climate of your wonderful little city. I do have to say that it is part entertainment and part my love for city gov. I am a big fan of the city mamnger/mayor format. I have watch all of the videos and know all of the current players. The most fasicating is the personalities of the city council members. The inteaction is better then most television in all of Japan.

So I bring a new outsider looking in type of perspective. I look forward to reading you comments and answering any questions about my opinion of your wonderful city of Commerce City.

ps Englis is my second language, so I am sorry if I use it in a incorrect manner.

Does anyone know of other sites, forums for Commerce City? It appears this is becoming censored to the point where real issues can't be discussed.

Concerned!!

Anonymous said...

Dear Anonymous "concerned" you sound like the typical complainer.
People work this web site for the usefulness of the citizens.
NO pay and often NO thanks!
I've been told they only censor hateful or racial things (anything anti someones kids)
Now Sato is helping out Dustin (who has much more important things to take care of....so get over yourself!!

I will be working on this blog about once every three days, so if you dont see your comments please be patient with me.

Sato, Gateway News said...

To answer the question about the other forums, you live in America, I would suggest that you start your own blog. I would even go as far to say that you even promote it here.

You can never have to many opinions.

Gateway is getting around 5000 to 8000 hits per week according to the analytical data. So please start your own blog, get involved in your community.

I would suggest that you stay positive and not create a forum to just be mean.

Sato, I apriciate ypu censoring racist comments against Latino/ Hispanic folks. people in Commerce City need to come to realty and understand that the Hispanic community has a voice and are part of the community just like every one else.

FYI, Dustie is fine, it is someone very close to him who is ill.

The tea party issue was heard before the Colorado Court of Appeals on November 16. If you want to hear the oral arguments, here is the link.

Hello??
Dustie's wife has had a horrible medical emergancy!
She will most likely be in the hospital for a very long time.
Let's stop worrying about the live stream and show the Gateway we care!
They need to shown we appreciate them.
Blood donations can be made in Yukiko McIntyre's name as well as financial and food help for the entire family.
Come on supporters of the stream!
WE are NOT the center of the universe!!

i really like the stream. i know dusty cant do it for a while. maybe some one else could
