Colorado is a sanctuary state which makes every city in this state a sanctuary city. Another word for sanctuary could be a welfare state. "Colorado is the only state holding on to a 1930's welfare program. People can qualify just by moving into Colorado, even if they never paid any state tax." Colorado currently has an "unsustainable situation in which half of Colorado's families are paying child care health costs for the other half."....."with government programs planned to grow faster than citizens ability to fund them." Baby "boomers make up about a third of Colorado's population. In Denver, sometimes called the nation's boomer capital, 35.6 percent of the population is over 45." (Denver Post, Jan. 16, 2011, Penn R. Pfiffner and Mary Winter.)

"In a 2006, special session, the legislature passed a Bill largely prohibiting the expenditure of taxpayer money on illegal immigrants." Being a sanctuary state has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the taxpayer's money largely paid in to Colorado by the boomer generations. "Legislators are responsible for creating the budget." "A Federal law change allows those already on free and reduced-price school lunches and supplemental nutrition programs to automatically qualify for some state medical aid." All they will have to do is reapply on the computer to qualify. (Denver Post, Jan. 23, 2011, Alicia Cardwell and Michael Booth.)

"13 flee vehicle on I-70 after driver arrested; authorities capture 11." "U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials ... are checking the legal status of the 11 people." (Denver Post, Jan. 30, 2011, Kirk Mitchell.)

This has nothing to do with race and everything to do with welfare payments, unemployment, birth right citizenship and health care benefits.

Please everyone keep the pressure on Estelle to to be forthright and call her out on her racist rants. This lady wants to be on City Council very soon. I think she just has too much time on her hands and watches too much Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly - don't deny it Estelle - it is OBVIOUS! Take all your free time Estelle and put it to good use and start building the ADDITIONAL park in our neighborhood that YOU so desperately need.

Anonymous said...

Can't believe you selfish people try to make a comparison to the Columbine tragedy. In every society there will be crimes however crime by illegals can be prevented by securing our boarders and deporting all of those who sneaked into the country.
There are too many people on foreign soils waiting to get their opportunity to come to America. They have learned English so not to burden us. They are attending schools to come here both having some education and a respect for the country and it's people.
How selfish to think because you sneaked in we should accept you over those in waiting. Illegals have over burdened our schools and taxed our nations work force leaving so many unemployed because
we can't accept low wages nor except living by standards of mexico's poor. Use that energy to make a change in mexico. Mexico has lots of money so return, use that free US provided education and make some changes there.

You can't sneak into someone's home and start living neither can sneak into a country. It's illegal!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yo...have you ever listened to Glen Beck. He doesn't sound at all racist. Now Estelle, yes she does....don't go by rumor, listen to a person yourself.
I have listened to his show, it is definately NOT racist. Kinda funny sometimes though.

Let's all gang up on Estelle sounds like cyber bullying to me. I hope that the blog writers are more mature than that. This certainly shows the amount of fear this person has that the truth will be told. Please, come out from behind your anonymous and use your real name so people can see you as you really are! This is not about humanity or race, this is about lying on Mortgage, voting and job applications, about accepting welfare payments never paid into, about forcing Americans to pay for health care into the billions of dollars all in the name of special privilege because of an open border. *About shootings: The shooting of a California couple in their vacation trailer, the shooting of a border rancher and a child, the shooting of a border guard, a massive grave of 72 people, the killing of over 2000+ people in one town in one year, people beheaded and their heads put on stakes, the hit and run of Jose Medina by an illegal immigrant. * Read Jan. blog.

Dustin, any idea on when Comm City SOC will be?

Dustin, Gateway News said...

Does "SOC" mean State of the City?
If so, then no I am not positive when is will be delivered.

Just a note, last year it was around the month of April.

I was recently told a possible explanation for the Commerce City State of the City being delivered later in the year is due to the fact that the elections use to be in April.

Currently, the Commerce City elections are now in November.

It is my opinion that the mayor, city council, and city staff need to listen to what people are saying about the city image and take some actual steps to improve the image by making decisions and choices that are ethical and are for the greater good of all the people who have invested in businesses and homes in Commerce City.

Anonymous said...

Yes the image of Commerce City can be cleaned up, but it is going to take a tremendous amount of hard work and new leaders who actually have the people’s best interests at heart and are willing to be held accountable for their actions and will listen to the people they represent.

Anonymous said...

I hear a lot of positives about the north range and a lot of people thinks it's a city called Reunion.
It is very different from the core city.

Think spending the money on more signs is a waste as more people and business move in, better chance of a split or name change for city.

Anonymous said...

GN, asked this of you in the past: I can't get an answer from city employees who sound like they're struggling to speak broken English at city hall.

How do we get English only printing of city documents with our tax dollars to a vote of U.S. citizens in this city. The mayor nor my council bothered to respond to e-mails either.

PRO CITY said...

Dusty, I can answer this one!

To Anonymous (English Only),

FIRST, Anytime you have a word with the word "ONLY" following it, you are asking for trouble.

The picture of Commerce City will be more clear after the final 2010 census number come out soon. But, the majority of the city is most likely Hispanic. In order to communicate with the entire city, it is essential that Spanish be included in all city communication efforts.

Commerce City's Victory Crossing
When you try to get any information about it all you come up with is articles from Denver Post and Gateway News

Anonymous said...

To anyone holding their breath on any news on Victory Crossing, don't do it, because you will turn blue. We have an incompetent Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and City staff. Our Economic Development Director has never done any economic development anywhere, she has no experience. So our only hope is to get people to run for the office of Mayor and City Council this November who are competent enough themselves so they can hire an actual real city manager who has experience as a city manager and who can hire competent people who have degrees in the areas we need them to have expertise in. So wait til fall 2011.

Anonymous said...

Pro City, you've acknowledged what's wrong in this city.

1. I asked how to get it to the vote of the the people. Your response basically: It's not up to the voters...council makes all city decisions based upon personal conviction.
2. You're saying the census will prove what we already know: we have a large illegal immigrant populace in south CC. This clearly delineates the south from the north and further drive the areas apart.

by printing in spanish the city sends a clear message - This will always be a "tale of two cities".

With that response you've lost my support for any future political endeavors. It's about the people not you!!

Why didn't the Gateway News cover the business summit? Isn't the Gateway a Commerce City business? Further, aren't they the "local newspaper"? Seems like a pretty big story in Commerce City not to be covered. Also, why don't you cover council meetings anymore? Is your only purpose to sell ads on your website, tweet, posting news releases coming out of city hall, and to find out answers to the questions posted on the blog? If so, then that is not the purpose a "local newspaper" in my opinion. The purpose is to report the news going on in the city - good and bad - so the ENTIRE community knows what is going on.

How many times do you all have to be told - major national and international corporations like Wal-Mart and King Soopers will build when and only when their highly paid number crunchers, demographic researchers, development professionals and a whole host of other professionals determine that a PROFIT can be made immediately or in the very near future if they build a store in X spot in X City regardless of the the name of the City, regardless of the name of the City Manager, regardless of the Name of the Mayor, regardless of the name of the ED Director, regardless of everything except the ability to turn a profit. I enjoyed listening to our new Director of Communication's report at the last City Council meeting. I did not write down her name but she appears to have hit the floor running in just 4 weeks. She seems right on top of her position and I was particularly impressed with the fact that she mentioned that we have to look at and set our Benchmarks to see where we are going. I welcome her on board and I feel she really cares about our community and how she can help us to dialog better. The survey on how CC communicates was right on and as a group of citizens, we want to have much more input into the way our city is run. After 25 years, the Beacon has left us without a point of reference for activities and events that have occurred each week. They provided a special service in that they did attend all the meetings and reported on them.

PRO CITY said...

Commerce City is not sending anyone to China. A Chinese delegation is coming to the United States. We will be sending up to three from Commerce City to that event in the USA.

At last Monday's City Council meeting, there was a presentation by Fast Tracks and RTD on the proposed line A-2 that runs up through Commerce City. Fast Tracks would like to pass a tax at the next elections to pay for their proposed new line. However, Council member, Benson reminded them that the money they have already collected to build that line was used instead to build the Southern and Southwestern lines. I agree with councilman Benson in that we want to make sure that the money collected up here to build that line stays up here and is not used elsewhere. But, Fast Tracks and RTD would not commit to that guarantee. I for one will not vote for a 4% tax up North that will not be used to build a line in the North.

Councilman Rene Bullock brought up the fact that as the Major and Major Pro-Tem are term limited we need a "plan of succession." Which only makes sense. Council members voted for two representatives to attend the ICSU conference at Las Vegas and council women Snyder volunteered to attend. City Council took a vote and over Rene Bullock's nomination of councilman, Benson, because" it was his time" and it was, council member's, McEldowney and Synder were voted in to go to Las Vegas. We do need to start thinking in terms of passing on the baton to those that might be continuing on in years to come. Council members that are term limited will use these conventions to further their own interests, networking and resume building and not use this experience for Commerce City.

Estelle, the Beacon was a one sided negative piece of unprofessional garbage. You have got to be kidding! Get real and good riddance to the Be-a-con.

Also Estelle, it seems that you are ALWAYS on this website's blog and this website is gatewaynews.org. So if you would read this website as much as you spend time writing on the blog on this website, you would have no void in any news.

Estelle, remember Jason Mceldowny still has two plus years on council. Therefore the future baton is passed with his presence at ICSC.
Benson's term is over this year. In my opinion he has done nothing for the north and will not get my vote to come back.
Snyder and Mceldowny were better picks to go to the Vegas conference.

really sad news about Mugsy's in Derby. They had really good live music. maybe they could move up north somewhere. I think they could do really well up here.

When is commerce city going to evaluate what going to Las Vegas really accomplishes.

Has anything ever come out of those numerous trips to Vegas? Besides bills that go back to the tax payers?

If anything has ever come out of Vegas I would love to hear about it.

to Wes,

First "Commerce City" is a name of a city and should be capitalized!

Second, going to LV for the ICSC is essential for ANY city to attend.

I think you should learn more about what the event you are putting down is all about before you just start spouting out your usual rubbish.

news about David Foster, anyone remember who he is? If not, ask your local Commerce City council member. It is likely he gave them money or has some connection to giving someone them money.

You all should listen to this for sure at minutes 6, minutes 22, and minutes 37.

So Brighton had a 59.54% increase with population of 33,352 and Commerce City a whooping 118% increase with a population of 45,913 and Brighton still lands all the development and upgraded services like a new water park? What in the world is wrong with Commerce City?

In a recent study on communication by CC council, one of the bullet points on the survey was that a majority of those taking said survey said they missed the Beacon. Watch the latest video of the City Council meeting. When, you write rude comments about something that tells all the readers that you are out of control and can not make comments in an educated manner. If, you disagree with someone, then write down your thoughts and give your reasons why. There is no need for name calling. I read all of the Gateway News web sites and read the hard copy when I can get it. I save those articles that interest me just like I have saved articles from the Beacon for over 5 years in my notebook library.

In the Angelou Economic Survey, I believe, they said that about 53% of CC population was Hispanic. Today, I would think that it would be closer to 63% or more. My question would be what percentage of our population is qualified to collect welfare and food stamps and how many are on unemployment benefits? That would give us a better picture of where we are economically. In Adams #14 School District, I believe about 70 to 75% of students qualify for the free lunch program and some medical aide. There may be new figures since, I looked this up. The big question is what percentage of Federal and State Welfare is the population of CC living on? Because, when those funds are no longer available, how, are we going to support half the city? In an article by Kimberly Dvorak of the San Diego County Political Buzz Examiner, she said, "The problem with illegal immigration ....Their parents (Anchor babies.) evidently immigrated here in order to get on social services." "FAIR estimated the yearly total for America's illegal immigration stood at $113 billion." What does Colorado pay out in benefits each year? (Federation for American Immigration Reform a Washington D.C. think tank.) Finally, that's what is great about America, we still have freedom of speech, press and vote. As a majority of one, where do you think you get your right to put others down?

Who ever said that people get "Heroised" after they go away is right on.

Sorry people but this is the TRUTH. It happened with the last Commerce City manager also. The council got rid of him, then after things settled, some could not stop raving about what a great job he did.

It is just human nature.

You feel sorry for something that has been around for a while, then all of a sudden just goes away.

It is what it is.

Isn't rooftops what drive retail?

In the Know said...

I thought Mile Market deal was discussed in public meeting. Doesn't the tax collected from them go into improving the surrounding streets in that area?

Anonymous said...

vickey.
Brighton's developement for Praire Center etc. started being PLANNED about 20yrs ago by Kronke.
Way before CC started its northern growth.
It is also the county seat, which gives it certain "rights" and expectations.
They also use the area demographics which includes the northern range. Business doesn't care about city lines, just people.
Like I said the businesses including the water park were planned many, many years back.

Anonymous said...

Mile high market gets part of the taxes and the city part.
Yes the city will be reinvesting them in the roads around the area.
The city will collect until they have enough to do something.
They certainly aren't going to do $500 worth of work here, and $2000 there.

Brighton, Denver and others attract more commerce because no one wants to do business with cc. Like it or not, Colorado U. S. citizens think of cc as city of illegal immigrants with a city hall full of unqualified people having a hiring practice of nepotism over education. Spanish is the primary language and the people have no respect of America or our laws.
Even now we see the city's lack of business sense trying to compete with Northfield while allowing the northern enclave with it's above national average incomes spend their monies in neighboring cities.
The mayor and city council made it clear that they have their own agendas which IS NOT the will of the people. Youtube videos of bullock "a council person" trying to recall the mayor because of the national financial downturn... what a joke to have these people represent the city and then expect someone to do business with cc.

FYI:
Kronke has control over then land around the stadium ( a contract set up with the old city manager and agreed upon by that council)He has (Kronke) empty land in Prarie Center with buildings aready built costing him money.
Where do you think he will direct business to go? My guess to the buildings he already has built.
Bad plan to give him control over the developement of what used to be called Prarie Gateway.
But what is done, is done, now we wait.

And the development around Reunion has been in the planning stages for at least 15 years, the water park at Pioneer Park for 10 years, the potential development around the soccer sadium for 8 years....
But with the publicity surrounding that current and last city manager and the current council, the name change, all the possible recalls, the quality (not) of the water and the school district 14, the graduation rates, the total city annual income, the way CC makes deals with surrounding jurisdictions on roads where they benefit and we don't, the NASCAR stuff- and you wonder why we can't get development?

While many believe including pro city, being Hispanic is synonymous with illegal immigrants who don't speak English. Being inept in their reasoning we use tax dollars to print in spanish. The majority of the Hispanics in Colorado are English speaking American citizens. Those who can't speak the language have sneaked into the country bypassing language qualifications to come invited to not burden our nation. I guess it takes less work to sneak in the USA than protesting the inequities of the mexican government. They need to learn from Egypt, Libya and others.
Point is, STOP exacerbating the rift in the city - one language one city!

FYI:
to the annoymous that said water park has been planned for 10 years and area around stadium for 8.
Both of these are wrong.
A survey was called for by council when Ford was mayor as to priorities of the citizens. This was bout 5 1/2 yrs ago. It was after that the water park became a focus for the undeveloped portion of Pioneer Park.
The stadium deal didn't go into INITIAL planning until approx. 7yrs. ago. When the deals were done & bonds voted on, focus was on the stadium and city hall. The rest was suppose to follow.
Kronke was given the rights to develope the lands around the stadium/city hall. Problem is he already had money going into Prarie Center. At that time building was a boom. I'm sure he thought both would prosper, then the bottem fell out.
He still holds rights to the development of the area around the stadium and city hall.
My feeling is it will take 2nd place until he gets his buildings filled at P.C. where he has invested big bucks to build empty buildings.

Dustin, thank you for the latest information on the 2010 census. If, you click on the map by county it will give you Adams County 2010 population count at 441, 603. In re-listening to the last City Council meeting: Karen Morales from the CIG Group did the Communications survey and the new Communications Director is Michelle Holstead. Her top five priorities: 1. To build a citizenry that is informed about CC's vision and purpose. 2. To create a communication program that builds pride, connectivity and engagement. 3. To establish a constant flow of information about CC through internal and external channels. 4. To identify quantitative citizen feedback needed to craft a new survey for CC. 5. To create connections between city departments and city leadership. On her pyramid of needs (Similar to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.) the top priority for CC was for external communications.

The Key Findings for the CIG Communications Survey: 1. City is split geographically/demographically. 2. Many staff disconnected from City's vision and mission. Internal communications need to improve. 3. Clear, consistent communication processes and procedures are needed. 4. City has tremendous opportunity to communicate growth and leadership.

fascinating how Brighton and Commerce City reported their take on the 2010 census number that pertain to their perspective cities.

Obviously people are confused by the differences in time between planned and approved for projects. Propery has to be rezoned and platted, finance obtained, there are numerious hearings- planning commission, board of adjustment if needed, city council. There are planners, lawyers, city staff, nearby neighborhoods involved. For Victory Crossing, the federal delisting process was a long and costly process. So the difference between planned and approved can be different.

As far as, Jason Mc Eldowney running for Mayor, let's not forget, that he voted in favor of Flanney's $72,000 Bonus; $450,000 taxpayer's house; $10,000 car allowance; paid house taxes since 2007 for Flannery and voted a second year salary raise of $12,800 per year for Flannery.

Mc Eldowney is Flannery's job security for years to come.

This next elected City Council could be the most perilous City Council to serve Commerce City. In that, our immigration population has doubled in comparison to our State and surrounding cities and our State and Federal funding is running out. In these next four years, the state could go bankrupt paying out billions in welfare and social services. Who is going to pay for our 21,579 + Hispanic population? They will turn on the hand that feeds them and demand that CC and Colorado support them. The middle east is a good example of how fast things can get out of control.

Cheo said...

Estelle,
How do you generalize that just because the population is 47% Hispanic, it is automatically "immigration population"

Finally sold our house in Commerce City and are moving to a better part of Denver.

state records reflect in Commerce City, the delta between the number of adult hispanics with state issued drivers licenses and are registered voters as compared to the population of hispanics is huge as in 70+ percentage range.

Anonymous said...

Estelle please, please don't generalize.
How do you dare to assume that the majority of hispanics in CC are illegal!
p.s. Mr Benson stated in a public meeting he was voting no for Flannery's contract because he didn't agree with the taxes/insurance portion. So your friend wasn't against the majority of Flannery's contract, being the nit picky lawyer he was he specified that!

Anonymous said...

anonymous, your using registered Hispanic voters, versus those with drivers licenese as proof of illegal status doesn't hold water.
How many white, black or "other" people have drivers licenses, but don't vote.
Sorry I don't buy it.
