Anyone else get the feeling pro city and pro city 2.0 will stop posting to the blog shortly after the flannery and his gang are gone???

(do you see what I am getting at? Either employees that are being told to post by manager or manager himself and his staff members in the Managers office that have a vested interest in Flannery's employment)

Call me crazy but they are seem to be hitched to the band wagon with info at hand too often and for too long and way too enthusiastically for an average citizen...

Bet we get to test this theory after the upcoming elections!

As the old saying goes you can put a dress on a pig....

REALLY.... we are going to compare northern cc to centennial now... REALLY

Have you ever drove through centennial and looked at the commercial and retail that existed prior to their incorporation???

A bit more than just some newlands of Aurora...

Next time try Wikipedia before spouting off...

"The city was estimated to have a total population of 100,557 in 2009.[3] Centennial is the tenth-most populous municipality in the state of Colorado and its 2001 incorporation was the largest in U.S. history. Centennial is ranked as the 15th safest[5] city in the country."

"Centennial was formed February 7, 2001, from portions of unincorporated Arapahoe County, including the former Castlewood and Southglenn census-designated places (CDPs)."

Once again... If you wanted to live in Centennial or another community comparable all you had to do was pay double or triple the price for a similar house.... But YOU chose to live in good ole CC ( or at least werent smart enough to know where you were buying a house or were too lazy to do the research!)

CC is what it is

(hopefully everyone knows I am referring to commerce city not cherry creek... I just wanted to make that clear)

Anonymous said...

great points. comparing Northern Commerce City (Newlands) to Centennial is like comparing apples to oranges.
The Newlands have different economic opportunities even then Commerce City proper.
Ever area is specific and has specific needs.

Character Development

I think, Kathy McIntyre said it correctly, I comment on this blog as a private citizen not a politician. Some of the really critical and snide things others write attacking another's character, calling others comments ignorant just shows their level of Character development. Back Peddle: to retreat or move backward. I simply answered others questions in full. While, you hide behind, anonymous, which is consummate back peddling.

Board of Immigration

Cheo, Until, we do a study, I would not be able to tell you what I would do with the Board of Immigration. It is not whether they are legal or not. There are thousands of immigrants living below poverty levels in CC. Families go to bed hungry every night. They live in crowded poor housing. It is not Adams 14 SD responsibility to feed them out of State and Federal funds which is against a Colorado 2006 law, but, area food banks and charitable organizations. Americans are the most giving people in the world. I don't feel that big business has the right to offer below minimum wage jobs to any body except in areas of high tips such as food service. These jobs become more of an indentured wasteland. These immigrants paid thousands of dollars to come to America with the promise of a better life from someone who is involved with human trafficking. However, what they found was the same kind of poverty. My feeling is that CC has become a destination city because it was the cheapest place around with the fewest problems to disappear in. But, they just exchanged one poor situation for another one, perhaps, even worse, because they do not have family support around them. But, we have no jobs nor education to offer these thousands of people. Adams 14 is not set up to deal with these numbers of second language learners. We need a new school system. If, immigrants want to become Citizens then they will have to pay and work their way just like others have done for over two hundred years. Currently, it costs about $5,000 and the government gives one about five years to pay off. At some time, they need to make a commitment to America. So, first, we must find out the true picture of what we are dealing with, then, we must see what we can do about it. Finally, we need to pass legislation to help turn this situation around which has nothing to do with money from government.

Vikki, Commerce City said...

I must be really in the dark about the supposed illegal immigrants in here. I consider myself pretty well connected I just do see the same world Estelle does.

Yes, of course we will have some illegals in Commerce City. But nothing like what Estelle is talking about.

Cheo, Commerce City said...

Estelle Remington,
What I have a big problem with is that yes you will eventually find out that Commerce City indeed do have illegals living here.
It would have most likely come out in your "study".
I assume the study being a government study would be open to the public, maybe even have residents on the actual board. The results then would be open to ANYONE to report to the Immigration Officials.
This is a very slippery slope.
Many would have a problem with this entire idea.

Information on medical support, legal advice, academic support, basic needs support, housing support and transportation support. Breakfast and lunch will be served to all families that come to this event. Does one put these children into grades according to age or according to academic achievement after testing? On the Board of Immigration question, I was just asked "what If?" and I answered that with an honest opinion. I have no intentions of running for city council so the question is mote! Lone tree is a unified city and this is 2 cities with almost nothing in common. There's 1, 2 lane road between the areas that's more for Brighton residents to get to and from Denver. The city splits us even more by printing in spanish for its south residents. Legal immigrants speak and read English as not to burden the country when they are allowed in.

King Soopers - RIGHT ON! Please let's all thank those who are actually responsible and as much as some of you would like it to be Jerry Flannery or the City Council or the Mayor or the Ed Director - it was not. Shea Homes made the deal come together and King Soopers did not roll the dice here - they are investing many many millions and intend to make a profit off of the store for many many years - so you have to really ask yourself - do you think it was because Jerry Flannery, Paul Natale or Brittany Morris asked nicely and said we will give you tax breaks for a few years that doesn't even amount to 5 percent of Kings total investment - give credit where it is due - THANKS KING SOOPERS AND SHEA HOMES! See you there at the coffee shop I can WALK to.

Anonymous said...

So Kings recently opened a store like this in Ft. Lupton and Greeley and another coming elsewhere in December 2011 - and they just remodeled several large existing stores in the metro area. It seems like Kings is making a big push and investment in Colorado. And they are building one of their new business model stores in Commerce City North- but this of course has nothing to do with King Soopers business model or plans - it all has to do with Flannery and his hoard of Managers and the Mayor - really it does - I promise really - they did it all - Flannery and Natale are both entirely responsible - Kings is only doing it because of the negotiating skills of Flannery and the "incentive package" they offered - really keep telling yourself this and you will eventually believe it - Flannery and Natale do - HA HA HA HA!

Anonymous said...

So very exciting to see that Kings Soopers has really started to build.
I want to thank, Kings, Shea and the city for making this a reality.

Anonymous said...

Oooooh anonymous and Dusty I LOVE the idea of asking candidates for their view on how many City Managers we need and car allowances and executive housing. It should start with something like this - Mr. or Mrs. candidate, the GN researched other surrounding cities and found out- XYZ and so on and in light of that - do you think Commerce City needs 3 City Managers and several other "directors" for "departments" that have one or two employees in them - or could those be put under an existing and needed department that already has a high paid Director. Do you believe CC needs to give the highest car allowances in the metro area - and hypothetically if those excessive high paid and unnecessary jobs were eliminated, what would you like to see the saved funds go towards for the CITIZENS NORTH AND SOUTH - parks, roads, police? Great starting point for candidates - don't you think Dusty!

pro city 2.0 said...

just some factual information.
council does not have anything to do with running the city such as hiring. they only hire the city manager and that is it. all hiring and firing goes thru the city managers office.

response to - "Tax incentives take money from the city that can be used for other projects. if King Soopers is doing that much expansion, why did we need to give them tax incentives at all?"

Tax incentives are not taking anything away. It was money that would not even have if the business was not there. There is no impact because it is for the residents that are already in the area.

Second, tax incentives are dictated by the market. And this current market is screaming for tax incentives. It will take some of the pressure off the business community so they can operate and get entire economy on its feet. A 2 million dollar incentive for a grocery store is NOTHING! It is a after thought and yes the Commerce City ED department was in the mix of all of this and should be thanked.

thats all. I do get much entertainment from reading the comments. love the crazy ones.

The city manager, by charter controls the city employees.

2. Why does the city council not hire all the department heads?
3. How does Shea Homes have anything to do with the new King Soopers. I thought they built houses?

I am sure other reading this have the same questions as I do.

Anonymous said...

The Commerce City charter is written that the city council will only hire the city manager and the city attorney and appoint the municipal judge. It is Shea Properties not Shea Homes that is the developer for the new King Soopers store. They are both owned by the Shea family out of California. There have been more than one recall attempt but never have they been successful. The last one was in 2006 for city council.

Anonymous said...

Shea Properties and King Soopers are responsible for the new store in the northern range of Commerce City, not city staff and not city council. Get your facts correct. We need new city staff as Shea Properties cannot and will not be responsible for economic development that is needed in Commerce City to make it the place it should have become over the last four years.

Anonymous said...

Always some confused ones up here - you are right 2 mill is nothing for grocery store - the point exactly - they were going to come regardless because there is money to be made here over a long time (try to use a little logic) Oh and by the way - SHEA HOMES OWNS THE LAND -THAT'S HOW THEY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT!. Also a New and actual City Manager can still significantly reduce the excessive positions starting at the Deputy City Manager level to Department Heads on down to the guys that pick up trash. We need at least one City Attorney and Judge - this is not where the ridiculous excess is as clearly established by GN when compared to other cities.
