One of the reasons why Commerce City is laughing to the bank is because of the forced annexation. Those people and businesses did not want to come to the city in that way.

Completely done wrong.

They should have been asked and worked with, not forced as Commerce City did.

pro city 3.0 said...

The city of Commerce City had ever right to included that area as part of the city. They use our roads, but don't want to pay for them? That is not right. We are all equal. No business should get an advantage.

You will go a long way with that in mind.

it was my original idea that the CC current council that is still seated give up their discretionary funds for the limos they used in DC.

I am so disappointed!

One has to wonder how much Stapleton (Denver) is laughing to the bank after any big event at Dicks Stadium (The Dick).

There was suppose to be a big announcement in August in Commerce City about the Boys & Girls club. What happened?

Archer said...

I think URA should buy the old malbooty club and make that a boys and girls club.

Anonymous said...

Obviously Natale was one of the people who RODE in the fancy limos in Washington DC or how else would he know about it? So why does Natale bring it up now? Why didn't he bring it up after he rode in the famcy limo that very next council meeting several years ago? And Gateway News, can you get all the expense reports and credit card reports of Natale's from the last six years along with a list of his accomplishments? It would make a great goodbye to him! And while you are at it, get the City Mismanager's too, Flannery's.

Anonymous said...

Hey Dustie
Why don't you ask the mayor to talk about the limos. Find out who ordered them and who used them. I know for a fact Orville hated that the limos were used also.
How about asking about the temple getting water without approval from city?

Anonymous said...

Just two more meetings to delay the city manager's home loan. Anyone want to place a bet?

Anonymous said...

Stapleton laughs a lot after any Dick event. People come to Stapleton to eat, drink and shop. And soon with the new I70 exit, the only time they will be in CC is in the parking lot and the stadium.

The so called limo thing is being blown way out of control. The towncar service that the City had used for many years was presented to Council as more cost effective than a bunch of taxis. And Council was scheduled to arrive and depart in groups, so they were used by multiple members and staff together, not one for every member. If it was anyones fault, it was the last City Manager and staff that led the Council to believe that it was in fact more cost effective than taxis.
If I understand it correctly, as soon as it was figured out to be wrong, the contract was cancelled and now they take cabs. Why are we always looking for something to blame the Council for?

Commerce City should cut their losses with the Buffalo Chip Golf Course and just sell it. Obviously a losing money hole.

Anonymous said...

I think the past city mnr was at fault.
I did hear that some on council took limos everywhere when they were in DC. Others only took them to their hotel, because they were at the airport waiting for them.
I understand in more recent years, council members share cabs, or are close to the conference center and walk. Some say they take the underground.
Much better in any case.

If you have ever been seen how the media works, info given may not be written about in the same contect or order.
There is no way to please some of you. I read many of the comments and just shake my head.
You complain about bad press, then complain about the specifics in an article that has been seen as positive by many (yes I know not all).
Man it is so easy to see why no one wants to step up to run for mayor. Why?
Why, would anyone put up with the abuse.
I can't imagine being out there for the crap that people throw.
That is why most of you sit here and complain, it is so much easier than getting involved.

Anonymous said...

I will vote for Toves rather than have a Ford in control again.
Hearing about the water board and S Fords deals make me remember the old stuff.
Guess we can be next in the paper, like Reyes in Adams county.

Anonymous said...

I agree the Bartel Post article is leaving out critical information. I think the limousine part is written in a way that is attempting to make a powerful point. Corruption was an issue and then Mayor came in and saved the day.

What it did at the end was only make the past and some present council look like a bunch of Schmucks.

Archer said...

The problem is that the CC Mayor gave the opponents of the CC Council members who want to go on to further their political career ammunition.

Mayor called out the council past and some on the present.

Don't think that this was missed by the CO House District group or the Adams County Commission group for 2012.

dkeys said...

I cant wait until we see the commerce city mayor forums. Great entertainment.

Archer said...

Basically I looked at this agreement with Commerce City and the So. Adams Water District. It says, you want water, you need to become part of Commerce City.

I am wondering how one municipality can force anyone to do anything.

This needs to be tested in the courts.

Commerce City may not be put in the best positive light if water department serves water so someone outside the city and does not make them be part of Commerce City.

What if someone wants to develop an area and does not want to be part of Commerce City, but needs water. Are they going to MAKE them, FORCE them to be part of Commerce City?

I don't know about you, but that seems un-American.

Whacha you all think?

Anonymous said...

IGA with city and south adams county water and sanitation does need to be test in the court system. then when it fails, it needs to be dissolved.

Dustin, Gateway News said...

Wes,
The 27J proposal would ask taxpayers for an extra 6.3 mills.

This would generate $4.8 million annually.

On a house with a market value of $200,000, property tax would increase by around $97 a year.

At the August 22 council meeting, Dunes Park HOA member, Charles Wolfenberger proposed becoming a Metro District. In the Director of Parks and Rec report, Carolyn Heath commented that the expectation of Parks and Rec is that HOA's provide their own parks for each HOA location and has nothing to do with City Parks. Mr. Wolfenberger said that if the Dunes HOA converted to a Metro District, "it could save up to $700,000 over these next ten years." This would give HOA's the money needed to build their own parks. Mr. Wolfenberger could you put your contact information on this blog?

Councilman Benson said that Parks and Rec spends about 5 times more on the South than the North these past ten years. Carolyn Heath said that the Open Spaces and Trails add up to about the same coverage in the North as the South's Parks. However, children can not play on the Open Spaces and Trails. Mr. Moreno said that monies collected up North can be spent on the entire city. Mr. Benson would like to see the recently returned money to the Northern fund, 3 to 4 million, spent on the two promised parks between Second Creek and Stuart Middle School.

GN,
I was told there would be more candidates for ACSD#14 then just 5. Maybe these was a miscommunication?

To: medical waste facility, rebuttal welcome:

The fact that they will be allowed to hold the waste for 48 hours untreated in really gets my goat!

I can not imagine the pests (rodents, mosquitoes, flies) that will get in and out with god knows what, passing to god knows who.

Not to mention lets all hope that one of those autoclaves will not have a mishap and blow a gasket, spilling and leaking into the ground.

Heard Commerce City council was another hot one! Water District (SACWSD) doing some kind of a weird quirky deal with Temple out on 120th and Tower (part of Brighton Growth Area).

Brighton has no plan for water to come there, so South Adams Water needs to supply it. But the Temple will need to annex into Commerce City if they want to do that (part of the IGA Commerce City has with South Adams Water). Remember they (the Temple) are currently in the growth area of Brighton.

All of this because the well the Temple has is full of chemicals that is not good for human consumption. Temple is trucking in water from Arvada!

At the end of the day a lot of lessons are going to be learned.

Commerce City staff seem to think Brighton is just going to let Commerce City annex this away from them, with nothing in return.

Common sense would tell me that Brighton may want some of Commerce City's growth area in return, or hell, Brighton may even want some money for it.

Either way, there is NO love between these 2 cities. The outcome should be very interesting to say the least.

Some say "All the Singh Temple want is a temporary solution for their water problem".

I say Commerce City should really think about this. It will set a standard for the rest of the future.

How did Commerce City Council Jim Benson get the Commerce City staff to put together a Ward 2 meeting with King Soopers officials and no one knew about it on the rest of council?

I thought it was the policy to ask the ENTIRE Commerce City council for permission to have city staff work on something that would take more then 30 minutes of the City Staff's time?

Are we not going to follow our own Council policies? What kind of an example is this for our 15 new candidates waiting in the wings of city hall?

Are we NOT a city of rules and policies? If Council is going to break them all of the time. One would have to ask, why do we even have them at all?

Am I right?

CC Citizens,
Your free trash ride days are numbered! No more entitlements for you!

-27 years of free trash service. They always seemed to work it out. Why is this year different?

Not enough revenue, too much expenditures. (still laughing to bank?)

CC property tax does not even cover trash service.

Okay,
where does it state anywhere that CC property tax will cover trash service?

If CC could have developed some of its many areas such as Victory Crossing, The old ACHS, Derby, The North. Would we not have tax revenue to pay for the trash?

Bottom line is that CC failed in increasing revenue, so they need to pass the problem onto the residents.

I got an idea, cut CC staff by 2 million dollars. Do it for 2 reasons, first, we will get free trash service. Second, see if anyone really notices.

RE: Proposed Medical Facility on Brighton Rd.

I agree with Commerce City Council member Jason McEldowney; Commerce City needs to send a letter to the Adams County Commissioners saying that they are SHOCKED that the planning commission is recommending this to then with so much opposition and facts of negative impact it will have on the residents in the area.

If I was Commerce City, I would also send this same letter to "Medical Waste Magee" too. Just so he is in the loop with how Commerce City feels.

If Commerce City would listen to the citizens during citizens communication this medical waste issue would be dead already.

Commerce City needs to enact a ordinance that would keep these types of facilities away from residential areas. Let say at least a 1000 feet.

If they do this now, then it will not be an issue in the future. Don't do this and Commerce City is going to end up grandfathering in the proposed facility on Brighton Rd.

Already rumored to pass the Adams County Commissioners 2 to 1.

Most likely the Adams County Commissioners will pass this because it has been deemed safe by other agencies (tri-county) and it is being pro-business.

Commerce City does zoning ordinances all of the time. They have them for the Medical Marijuana establishments, they even have one for a race track. One would assume this would be no different. Except for it is a real safety and health issue.

Come support the opposition on Monday Sept 12th at 10am at the Adams County Government Building.

This really is a bad idea in that proposed location.

So many other, much better places this can go.

Trash Talk:
RE: Commerce City entertaining the idea of getting rid of the free trash service.

Maybe it is time for Commerce City to look at furlough days.

Given the population demographics of Commerce City, I see NO reason at all to punish them with a fee because city can't control its spending.

Other options: Have enough guts to bring it to the people as a tax.
Or, Cut the spending. 2 million dollars out of 45 million is not too much to ask for.

Besides, are we not "laughing all the way to the bank?

Cheo, Commerce City said...

trash talk,
I would be in support for the residents picking up the tab on trash.
But, I would like it to be a 50/50 split with Commerce City residents and Commerce City staff. Charge residents 1 million and City staff cut 1 million.
This is the only fair thing to do. We are all in this together.
There is too much of a mentality of City staff vs. City residents.
If staff TRULY care about Commerce City, I see no reason why this would be an issue.

Rumor is Commerce City Council member said Jason McEldowney said it is as simple as either we start paying for our trash or we will not have roads!

Anonymous said...

jason did say that. thank god for video, you will see it for yourself, watch channel 8 this week.

city is trying to spin this as no fee, no capitol improvement projects (2 million).

Never mind the fact that this in NOT the only option.

City can cut spending across the board, maybe do a furlough day or, maybe take it out of reserves.

about the trash talk in Commerce City,

I am completely in disagreement. People need to pay for their trash service.

I have lived in 11 different cities in the US and never was trash service just given to me, except for in Commerce City.

Maybe we can get trash for free in Commerce City again when all that China money comes. When is that again?

Commerce City is used to hand outs,
take it away and people will get upset.
Stop your whining and pay for your trash! It is only $8 to $10 a month!
Maybe don't get starbucks one day! Or eat at home one night!

Commerce City Drama-
Mayor Natalie has axe to grind with the Fords, any insight of how all this is?
Because of recall?

ps - residents do need to start paying for their trash pickup.

FINE! I will pay for trash service in Commerce City. Under the condition that the money does NOT go into the general fund. It goes towards a specific item, such as a Boys and Girls Club on the new Dog Track.

Why would the money received for trash pick up not just go to pay for trash pick up. Does not seem that the city will be collectng more then it is charged.

Thank you Tracey Snyder for once again being one of the few who really stands up and fights for us! We know you are a firm NO on taking away free trash at a time when people cannot afford to keep their homes or food on the table!

There are so many people talking about Dominick Moreno right now! Shame on him for insulting the past Mayors and Councilmembers of our town, saying they are double dipping because they get a tiny retirement! And to make matters worse, he voted twice to take away our free trash!
Word on the street is that he is going to finally admit he is going to run for the State House seat against Tracey. Just think if this is the way he does things at the local level, we cannot afford to have him represent us at the State!
Team Tracey-stay strong! We need you more than ever!

Not even a drop in the bucket for CC budget.

At it is going to do is make a bunch of people upset at him.

Dominick's stance on elected officials retirement fund-

Some things are not all about the money or financial impact. Some things are for the principal of the matter.
A good lesson for ANY politician, Republican and Democrat (even newly flipped Democrats).

Heard CC Council Carson say that annexing the temple on 120th would not be cost effective.

There will be no snow removal. It is not an emergency route. Even I don't get CC snow removal (Reunion). No trash service. They only get Police Service.

Bottom line I think it is cost effective.

Want to cut costs so we don't pay for trash or we pay some but not total trash bill- how about one City Manager who can do their own intergovernmental relationships like all previous City Managers - should save about $500,000 a year - Flannery might have to do something related to running a City rather than what he does now - which is - some of us are still trying to figure that out.

I am so pissed. How dare Benson and others push to give our water away.
As several council members mentioned, who would build a building without testing for their water??
Really??
Now, we should give in and set up a prescendance that would open the door for anyone else.
I am so sick of these "deals" dealers.
What right do they have to change the agreement.
We gain nothing, but lose lots.
I heard S. Ford was involved and he got a trip to India as part of the deal.
