How come Council Member Dominick Moreno has never told any of the residents that he suppose to represent that he was an at-large board member of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Local Officials (GLBTLO)?

Why do we all have to find out everything on this blog?

I would like it more if our government would be more transparent.

Anonymous said...

Question please, GN. Why does the Natale twitter have part of its address referring to palodiaz? Just wanted to know. By the way, could you take off his rambling twitterings? He has tweeted so many times that he couldn't wait to get off the council and now how happy he is to vacate the seat that we should all realize that we were just a stepping stone for him. One more thing, I don't care where he is eating breakfast, lunch or dinner every day or who he is eating it with! Just stop already.

Anonymous said...

I don't think that Tracey Snyder is at all concerned about Dominick Moreno's personnal life. I heard her say that she wished him well as the new Mayor Pro-Tem. Right now, however, she is focused and grieving over the loss of a very good friend who died tragically a few days ago. The funeral is tomorrow.

But I agree it will be fun to watch.

So sad that this is all that happened in that last 7 years in Commerce City. I know we all blane the economy and whatever else you can think of.

For me, I think a weak Commerce City administration has some part to blame.

Classic example of too many chefs in the kitchen.

I say at least half of the positions could be eliminated and no one would ever know.

I thought the CC ED Director had all these so called "contacts" with everyone.

So why are we not in better shape.

By the way, wasting a ton of money on buying the dog track instead of letting the private sector run its course is not considered a "Success".

All council did was take tax payer money and use it to BAIL OUT the dog track owners.

I heard there were liens against the property, maybe something GN can take a look at.

Why is victory crossings still empty?

why is there no real sit down restaurants in the city?

Congratulations to Dominick Moreno, named as new Pro-Tem for CC. This is a first step in being responsible and transparent on City Council by Sean Ford. Things are really starting to look good. I hope we stay in this positive zone and not just the honeymoon phase. About Dominick's bid for District 32, when one has a student that advances faster than the other children it is a good thing to let them advance at their own pace. And Dominick is setting his own pace. About the sexual orientation thing it sounds like a public relations stunt to me.

The Reunion Rec Center does a pretty good job with their programs, but we need more. We need a real Rec Center on the Northern Range complete with a competition pool, indoor track, courts, water park, skate park, etc.
Promote fitness, give the kids more programs to stay in shape and out of trouble. A place to meet. Why don't we have little league baseball, pee-wee football, wrestling, basketball and swimming up here?
If you want to lure quality residents and business, you have to have these amenities. Natale was bragging about our budget surplus...what are you waiting for? Labor and materials are cheap now. Do it now and own the upswing when the economy improves.
I'm tired of paying big taxes up here for the last decade and having nothing to show other than a four lane road, an average rec center and a dirt trail at Second Creek.

Many fracturing fluids contain chemicals that can be toxic to humans and wildlife, and chemicals that are known to cause cancer. These include potentially toxic substances such as diesel fuel, which contains benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, xylene, naphthalene and other chemicals; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; methanol; formaldehyde; ethylene glycol; glycol ethers; hydrochloric acid; and sodium hydroxide. Very small quantities of chemicals such as benzene, which causes cancer, are capable of contaminating millions of gallons of water.

Public Relations

Wes, the written word is a mighty thing. Today, people use facebook and twitter to make comments to judge others written word about themselves and others. Because someone writes something does not make it so! People join different organizations because of joint interests or to find out where a certain group stands on ideology. This group deals with domestic partnerships, policies and legislation, perhaps, it is an area we all need to know more about? I would not be comfortable there because I come from another generation. I believe there are professional public relations groups and individuals that write into these blogs to plant seeds of discontent and try to cloud one's judgment of someone else's value as a person.

Fracking

These Fracking agreements were made in the early 1990's before Shea built Reunion. At the time of purchase of this land, one would think that this mineral information would have been available from Adams County or Denver. Someone may have dropped the ball there. It is not unusual for these agreements to sit for twenty or more years before operations begin. Many of these agreements are held in reserve for future use when population demands increase. Aren't mineral, oil and water rights separate from land ownership? I remember a tree farm out there that had to pay for chlorine city water and lost the rights to natural wells for his trees. No one can guarantee anything that is an unknown. I don't think they have used this technology long enough to make future predictions. So far, we have had some kind of control over this process. I believe they go down about 6,000 feet. This could change the entire outcome for the Northern Range. I pray that it is not worth their drilling.

Jim Benson is a good council person. When you are as busy as he is mentally with so much responsibility, it is easy to overlook a bag fee. Jim should just reimburse the $100 dollar charge to the city. Has anyone thought that Dominick may be using GLBTLO for a voter base as he runs for office? Gene Leffel will have to clear his name which will never be the same! This is exactly what I meant by blog comments that try and put others down.

Couple things:

I am amazed at how simple minded some people are. Who cares what Moreno's sexual orientation is. This has nothing to do with the fact that he is an intelligent man and has done great things for Commerce City. People do not choose their sexual orientation. I can't believe how discriminatory people continue to be in this day and age. FYI people-You do not have to be gay or lesbian to be a member of the GLBTLO board. It is a board in support of anyone that is GLBTLO so stop assuming. Let's judge him by his performance on council and not by his personal life!

It's interesting to see how many "anonymous" pro-tracey comments there are on this blog. I would not be suprised if she isn't writing them all herself.

Congratulations Dominick on being elected mayor pro-tem! You will continue to do great things for Commerce City!!

County Level involvement in fracking...

Adams County does not have the authority to regulate fracking activities. The State Oil and Gas Commission regulates oil and gas wells including the issuance of permits to conduct fracking and directional drilling. The County has no authority to prevent drilling or fracking at this site because state law does not allow local government control in these matters. In this case, the subject well was originally approved in 1972 by the state. Based on recent research, the current activity at this well site was permitted by the state on or around October 21, 2011 in accordance with state law. Changes to state law would be necessary in order to modify the regulatory framework of oil and gas activities in Colorado to include review and comment by Counties. Currently, these activities are fully within the state’s jurisdiction.

The County will be contacting the state to request that they notify surrounding property owners of this type of activity in the future; however, the decision on that matter will be up to the State Oil and Gas Conservation Commission as it is not currently required by law.

For more information about state laws regarding this topic, please contact the State Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Their web site has resources about this topic that may be helpful: http://cogcc.state.co.us/

Fracking

As residents, we do have some rights concerning fracking from the State. First, we can ask for set standards for drilling the wells across the State. So, we need rules, guidelines and standards to protect drilling areas. Second, we can demand that these holes are drilled and structured in such a way as to not allow fumes from chemicals to escape. Some fumes escape up to about one-half mile. Third, we can ask that each well will be a "closed system" in that any chemicals will be pumped out for reuse at another time and/or disposed of at a designated site under Hazmat controls. Many of these chemicals are a secret recipe and company's refuse to give out this info. They are used to break up the clogs of clay. Ninety-five percent of the mix is water and sand, but, we have no idea of the life cycle of those chemicals. Perhaps, in the future we can use some organic mixture like salt? However, as it breaks up the layers of shale, we run the risk of future earthquakes. These drilling activities should be miles away from any residents. These formations are hundreds of miles long and come from an ancient ocean that stretched through western Colorado. (My son and I joined a dig at Medicine Bow,Wyoming and I found clams and ancient sea creatures.) It seems reasonable that we could tap in almost anywhere and leave the residential wells for emergencies. Please, send e-mail to Ed Casso and Ed Purlmutter as it is under State control.

Wes, we do share the same dry humor and I enjoy reading your comments. You can say things, I can only think about! We went to Thanksgiving dinner near Franktown and their wells are off of a spring like aquifer. The water is just refreshing and crystal clear. They are Fracking in areas of Franktown and I pray they don't affect their water supply. In CC, we need to be heard not only for our area for an entire state. When, we purchase homes in CC, we buy the land and homes but, give up any rights to minerals, gas, oil and water underneath our land. And, I believe that goes for most of the cities in Colorado. I remember discussing that in my signing contract.

Estelle,
Thanks for mentioning that. I also remember signing something about not owning the mineral rights under my house.
I forget who owns them.
I would like to find out.

Robert Vashaw has proven that he can lead us in the right direction. He will listen and of course he might disagree, but he will never disrespect or try to take cheap jabs in private circles or in public, as some other past presidents have done.

I really don't care about his past.

A proven leader is a proven leader.

heard some at CLA were voicing their opinion of newly elected D#14 president Vashaw.

Apparently, CLA and D#14 are not on the best of terms.

Irene, CC said...

So after the Adams 14 honeymoon, are they going to get rid of Sue?

CLA is grasping for straws. Anything bad anyone has to say about them is the truth so of course they have to voice their opinion regarding the school board. Bravo to Mr.Schimpf for throwing out CLA's integrity (or lack thereof) HA. These are people that saw an opportunity to make more money than people like them should ever make and the school turned into their cash cow! They have no regard for the kids that are in that school or the education they are NOT receiving there. The sooner that school shuts down, the better for our community! How do you like that one Mr. CLA Executive Director? My daughters went to that school and the way that school is being ran is shameful and taking them out of that HELL HOLE was the best decision I have made on their behalf. I feel bad for ever thinking that CLA would have been the best choice for their education. I only hope the scares from the time they were there will not stay with them for their whole life!

Robert Vashaw has always been honest about his past. Robert Vashaw actually learned from his mistakes. Robert Vashaw will always helped our students and families with substance abuse problems. Robert Vashaw was elected by the voters to lead us and he was elected by The Board of Education to HELP lead Adams 14 into the future. Mr. Anonymous have you ever done anything wrong? Why didn't you run for BOE? Or did you and you lost?

Proud parent of 4 students.

I couldn't agree with Ronnie M. more. Sounds like a sore loser commenting. Now under the leadership of our new school board president Robert Vashaw and with new board members, our kids finally stand a chance. Best of luck to all of you.

I guess it is now official as it has been posted on the CASB (Colorado Association of School Board) site.

I am now a nominee for the position of a Directory of the CASB Board of Directors. To my knowledge Adams 14 has not had a member of this Board and if elected I will represent Region 5 of the Board I desire to be an advocate of districts statewide with demographics like ours in Adams 14.

Once again I am calling upon m friends and supporters to pray that the Lords will be done in this another of my efforts to advance the educational concerns of our kids.

For information on the canidates and my position you may access the following web site and pull up the PDF which is bullet point number 8

As I noted in my nomination of Robert Vashaw for the President of the Adams 14 BOE it was my honor. I do not have to list Robert's qualities all I have to say he has shown me in our 4 years of working together he is for our kids. Any detractors to Roberts ability may voice their openion and I know Robert will defend their right to make their comments, pro or con. Robert was not only my choise but the choise of his fellow board members and the choise of the Adams 14 community.

I personally think it is great that we have such dedicated individuals such as Vashaw and Quintana that are willing to take on roles as BOE directors.
The kids in this city need good people in charge to make sure they get a shot at being successful in life.

I am happy with this new board.

Denver POST: National Western presents options for stock show complex to city of Denver (Commerce City One Option)...

http://t.co/C5W7MC2A

The five options included in the report are:

Having the stock show stay put and do nothing, which according to the report would force National Western into bankruptcy within seven years.

Expanding the existing facilities north and west of the current location at an estimated cost of $500 million.

Relocating to a site immediately north of Dick's Sporting Goods Park on land owned by Commerce City at a cost of about $400 million.

Moving to a location in the High Point development near Denver International Airport and adjacent to a 1,500-room hotel and conference center proposed by Gaylord Entertainment Co. at a cost of about $350 million. The site straddles the border of Denver and Adams counties, with the Adams County portion owned by the city of Denver.

Moving to another site in the High Point development that is not adjacent to Gaylord but is still in Denver at a cost of about $400 million.
