Mr. Moreno did a great job tonight as mayor pro tem! That was a difficult meeting and he handled it very well. He is a natural leader and the best candidate for HD 32!!

CC goes from emergency to just a normal ordinance.

That is the way it was suppose to be from the beginning.

Wes, Northern Range said...

Is Commerce City really going to negotiate with the oil and gas!?

Take the 30 days for them to talk you into how safe all of this is?

BS! Commerce City sent the wrong message to the residents!

dkeys said...

Promise all a EMERGENCY ORDINANCE, then you decide to take a time out with the exact people who did not notify us!

Very disappointing!

Who the hell is the guy that Benson is hiring for $500.00 (TAX PAYERS MONEY) for 2 hours to talk at his ward meeting!

C3 meeting - the coolest thing ever

No, not the meeting itself wasn't the coolest thing ever. Ok, I'm going to use Star Wars analogies, so if you've never seen Star Wars, rent it and watch it, then read this.

So, first, David Neslin from the CO&GCC came in late, and it was like Darth Vader walked into the room. We had several of our people talk, two of "them" talked, and then this guy gets up to speak, dressed like he just finished painting his basement, we wondered "who is that?" It was our Obi Wan Kenobi - Wes Wilson (I think that's his name), yes the guy from the EPA in Denver who was on the Gasland video!!

As I said earlier - HOW COOL IS THAT ??

commerce city council made a BIG mistake by making CS the new police chief. It should have been Baker and we all know it!

Yuri said...

Commerce City council members will have to pass this oil and gas Moratorium on second reading or they will forever be marked as a council that will give in to anyone.

As some others out there (facebook)

I am disappointed in the council members decision to work with them.

The elected officials of Commerce City need to start running the city and stop listening to City Attorney Bob Gehler and his fear mongering of "The city will be sued, the city will be sued!".

I say pass the damn thing and if they want to sue us, GOOD LUCK! At least we took a stand!

I would like to thank the Commerce City Council for working with the Oil and Gas Commission in their request for Deferral.

It is a win for Job Creation and local economy!

All of the people who are against fracking - Realize that Colorado has the most strictest of laws when it comes to this issue. It is safe and you are going to have to start trusting in your state government that they are not out to hurt you.

It was curious to me that the examples that people were given during the public comment section were all out of state issues!

Anonymous said...

Just like somone else said...i bet there is a good reason that Chief Saunier got put in the game, and not Baker. This council is on their game, apparently are in the no, and are working together to make CC a better place!

Bob Zeiler said...

Even though the counsel meeting was lasted a lot longer than what may have been necessary last night it was very apparent that Dominick was well in control of the meeting. He showed that he is capable of being able to step into any political event and do a good job of handling the situation. Will he make a good Representative for us in House Dist 32?
I know he will make a better effort than his opponent and succeed far better because he has a more Political knowledge. You may gain more knowledge about any job you may have with time but really wanting to do this for the good of others involved and not only for self esteem takes a lot more effort. Dominick is not deserting the citizens of Commerce City. He is only going to a different position in Government where he can help even more.

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding me? Mr. Moreno did a good job last night? Were you watching the same meeting the rest of us were??

He had no control, he kept the citizens to three minutes, and let oil and gas go on forever!! That is not how you run a meeting! He has no skills at all! And lets not forget the panic button!

Dominick Moreno was embarassing and a huge dissapointment! Wish we could have called Tracey Snyder- she could have come in without any preparation and did a way better job!

Anonymous-you can have your "natural leader", the rest of us will take Tracey!

Anonymous said...

Wow! So how does everyone like Mr.Dominick Moreno now? Pitiful job running that Council meeting last night!

He let the oil and gas commission run all over the people from the North!

And way to go with the panic button with all the news people at Council! Many people are saying it was a circus!!

And who was the ring leader? Dominick Moreno!!

Please give us Tracey Snyder back!!

One has to wonder if any of the CC council members have buyers remorse from last night.

Gehler is like a used car salesman.

Marcus, Commerce City said...

Tracey Snyder would have fought for the people. The reason why it was an emergency is because it was right on top of us in South Lawn in Reunion.

I am so disappointed.

What, did gas and oil promise something?

Are they going to give us a rec center in the north? Maybe a park?

We always hear about the benefits of being a home rule city. How powerful it is. How we should do things and have them go through the court test.

I say let use our power as a Home Rule city as we did with the medical marijuana industry.

Are we more afraid of Oil and Gas because they have more money then the Marijuana industry has?

how did you get this letter?

Anonymous said...

don't understand how gateway news can have this letter, when the commerce city council saw it for the first time in monday nights exec session.

Anonymous said...

Outside police consultant? Personnel Investigations? Could it be from when a Sergeant off duty pointed his weapon in a civilian's face inside a bar located in Federal Heights and was covered up? Call Federal Heights PD if there are any questions. Or could it be when management level supervisors threaten a juvenile explorer who worked at the police department by illegally entering her home when her parents weren't home and seizing a personal computer under the threat of having her parents deported??? Why so they could get rid of an employee they didn't like. Or could it be something else? I'm sure there is more to this story.

Anonymous said...

Personnel Investigations at Police Department??? Hmmm...how about all the promotions that command staff received when they tried to cover-up for Chief Hebbard's corruption? That's why Baker and all his lackeys got promoted when Hebbard resigned. Interesting....

On Fracking:
I must say that I am quite dissapointed in what happened Monday night at Council. I have had the privilege of working with the dedicated people in the North, who are trying so hard to protect their neighborhoods.
Slated as an "Emergency Ordinance" this would have meant that if passed, it would have been instated immediately.
For some reason, it was changed by Council to a regular Ordinance, which means it must pass through first and second reading to pass. Many people believe the ordinance is in place, and in fact it is not, because it has not passed second reading.

While I understand that Council must do what they believe it right, I believe that when you tell the people you are giving them an Emegency Ordinance, and then change it to a regular ordinance, it mislead people to believe that the ordinance is in place, when in fact it is not.

Since I have recieved so many calls about this, I thought it might be better to try to clarify here what happened.

I have been concerned not only for the people of our town, but also for the Wildlife Refuge. We need to be very careful about what is going on with the Fracking of these wells, and what is being used to Frack them. Should Fracking cause any kind of issue with the basins, the entire City will be at risk. This is just to big of a chance to take in my opinion.

I promise to stay on top of this. And thank you to everyone from the group of citizens that have been diligently working so hard on this.

Best,
Tracey

Wes, Northern Range said...

I am also a bit scared when I hear these things that could be coming out of the police dept. I hope whoever is in charge will be able to tactfully handle this.

Estelle Remington said...

Changing strategies

Anyone who has ever worked for a police or sheriff's dept. knows that they are masters at cover-up strategies. It literally takes one to know one. Everything does not have a paper trail. The CM is doing the smart thing by calling in an expert. Has anyone been following the outcome of the immigration policy of Arizona and found out that the Federal Government declared that they are the only ones able to declare laws concerning immigration for the U.S.? Well, that's what we are dealing with in the Colorado Oil and Gas Company's regulations. The State of Colorado reserves the right to set down regulations on how Gas and Oil companies can use our natural resources. As a city, we can request certain restraints and guidelines but the State Agencies will legislate what the bottom line will be. For the first time in our history, we are finally doing the right thing by listening to what the State has to say. Because, sixty years ago, 1949, we were already bound to it. That's before most of the CC was born. We can ask for and demand better guidelines and protections for our populations but we need to be polite and educated in so doing. In 1992-93, these Gas and Oil companies already purchased their drilling rights in the Northern Range.

Response from Commerce City...

A criminal complaint was forwarded to the DA’s office this morning. A criminal complaint of harassment between two Commerce City police department employees was alleged on Monday December 9, 2011. While no one has been charged, an internal personnel investigation was initiated and per department policy, the DA's office will be the third-party that conducts the criminal investigation.

Anonymous said...

Great!

What about the assault last Monday night between the 2 officers.

Is it common practice in Commerce City for Commerce City employees to assault each other and no charges be filed?

Monica Moreno said...

I agree with Bob Zeiler. The majority of the comments posted on here are from anonymous. There would be far less comments if people actually had to post their name and be held accountable for what they say.

Thank you Tracey for your comments and the explanation about what happened Monday night. You were right, alot of people were confused as to what happened.

People have been talking about you and I can see why. A real leader, someone who is really for the people, will take the time to make sure they are working for the best interest of the people they serve.

I find Dominick to be less than genuine. He feels like someone who is all about getting to the top without doing paying his dues.

If the city council had passed the "emergency ordinace" that would have left the city open for another lawsuit. There is already what 3 or 4 pending. The lawsuit from the oil and gas folks would have been a loss for the city. I am not so sure the city can afford to have a multi-million dollar lawsuit loss. If the city loses a few of the pending lawsuits just think what would happen to the city buget then. The residents might then have to pay for trash service.
As for the Team Tracey supporters, she should really get better informed before posting on here. The City has no jurisdiction over the oil and gas wells. That is all controlled at the state level. The only thing that the city can do is enforce the traffic laws around the well sites. If Tracey really is looking out for Commerce City she would have done the homework required to give the residents the facts and not just say what the residents want to hear. Sometimes the truth hurts but it needs to be said.

Anonymous said...

It is ignorant to say that someone can be held accountable by posting here with a name attached. LLast I checked this is America where we are free to voice our opinion and it is not a crime. Accountability is for criminal behavior. Ignorance might want to be quiet as it encourages rumours and lies.

Bob Zeiler said...

Isnt it nice that Snyder is so concerned about what has been happening in the city since she had to leave being counsel person due to term limits.
The things I mean are.
1 Fracking issues.
2 Get the Boys and Girls club compleated.
3 Get something started to develop the dog track area
Now she would help us citizens along with the present City Counsel persons to get something done about them along with other things that may come up in the future.
Is she only doing this because she is campaigning to be Representive for House Dist 32?
I cant say yes or no to this but cant help wondering why all the sudden her presents with city issues is now so apparent.
ANONYMOUS PLEASE GIVE YOUR VIEWS.

Team Tracey said...

Tracey knows exactly what she was talking about. She said that sometimes you have to step out on that limb to make a statement and do what is right by the people.

Honestly, do you really think that after nine years she doesnt know what an emergency ordinance is?

She told us that she just wants to protect the City and the Arsenal. She has been at the fracking meetings, and has done her homework. Sorry, but sometimes true leadership means standing up for the people, even in the toughest of circumstances.

Anonymous said...

If anyone was paying attention to the Council meetings where Fracking has been discussed, you would have seen Tracey Snyder speak to Council. She understands that the Oil and Gas people are not under the State right now, and she asked that a Bill been run right away to change that. I feel that Tracey has a great understanding of the situation, and that she is correct.
We now see that Casso has suddenly decided to run a bill of some kind, regarding this issue. Glad to see he followed Ms. Snyder's lead, for once.
She is definate House District material, and will do a great job for us at the State.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Citizen,

I see the blog and have firsthand knowledge of the internal issues of the police department. I would like to ensure the citizens that the issues in the police department are purely that of the command staff. The line officers that are out there patrolling your streets are the best men and women I know. They took an oath to protect and serve and they are unrelenting in carrying out their duty.

The integrity and perseverance of the line staff will see them through these dark times and I have no doubt that once the house has been cleaned, the citizens will be overjoyed at the level of service and professionalism that will follow. The citizens have been victimized by the corruption of the command staff but those responsible are being dealt with. The term “Police policing themselves” is something these power hungry individuals are soon going to come to fear.

The days of self promotion at the expense those we swore to protect are over. You’re group is being put on notice! I think you may want to consider retirement as well. If our citizens only knew what you have done, they wouldn’t stand for your type of behavior and there is no doubt they would be calling for your heads. Know this, we will no longer be afraid to stand up to your type of tyranny and your days of running amuck are over.

As far as prior Chief’s “retirement”, it is one of the best things that could have happened to this department. As far as officer assaulting officer, it was one of the command staff on an officer. It just goes to show the level of stress put on an individual when he knows that justice for his wrongdoings is coming. I believe that Chief Saunier, unlike the person he succeeded will bring back accountability to this department and that is something that has been missing for a long time.

For those citizens wondering why there are so many anonymous postings, well outside of HR’s belief, there is retaliation going on and until those individuals are cleaned out…we don’t have freedom of speech without fear of reprisal in our department. I’m sure that those responsible will attempt to muddy the waters with accusations of a conspiracy. They will say this is the doing of only a few disgruntled individuals. I believe the open records act will bring to light many issues, even if those records somehow disappear or get changed, I’m sure there will be someone with a copy of the original.

So Mr. Citizen, feel free to contact your city Councilman, City Manager, Mayor or Chief of Police and show your support for ridding our city of the corrupt element that has been going unchecked. I welcome an outside investigator but I have seen this before. Hopefully, this investigator unlike the prior Chief will have the integrity and courage to do the job at hand.

Yours Truly,

Whistle Blower

I never said it was a crime to voice your or anyone else's opinion. I am merely suprised at how many people write negative comments on this blog and are reluctant to put their name alongside it.

And just an FYI the definition for accountable is documented below. It doesn't reference criminal behavior.

Definition of ACCOUNTABLE
1: subject to giving an account : answerable
2: capable of being accounted for : explainable

From Meriam-Webster dictionary.

I say let the house cleaning continue. Flannery, Morris and Baca were all self promoters more interested in themselves than serving the citizenry. The City has a couple more near the top that are part of Flannery's "legacy"(wink, wink) but McBroom, Flannery's one and only hire or promotion of an excellent individual interested in serving the citizens and not themselves will hopefully weed the others out soon. City Council got this one 100% right (promoting McBroom). HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Too bad we can not have more on council that are tougher and will stand up for what is right.

WE ALL KNOW THIS IS WAY WAY WAY WAYAAAAY TOO CLOSE TO OUR HOUSES IN SO. LAWN

Tracey offered to sit as a member of the committee on the fracking situation. To those who think or have said she is "campaigning", you may want to look at the new district map- House District 32 is does not include anything north of 104th, so therefore, the northern range is not even in her District!
Just one more reason why Tracey really is the right person for the job. She helps people just because she wants to do what is right, regardless of personal gain.
So once again Tracey shows she cares about the people, rather or not she is running for anything.
She is a great leader and will shine in the State House!

Why can't we keep police chiefs? The officers are running the PD. They have undermined several chiefs now. Why- they do not like to be held accountable. They like the 'combat city' old way of doing police work. And the union wants everything their way. I bet Chief Baca left because someone started a vote of no confidence discussion. No corruption from the higher ups- just a bunch of cops who do not want to be accountable.

Anonymous said...

I wondered why Zeiler is always attacking Ms. Snyder as well.

Anonymous said...

Poor Mr. Zeiler and his skewed issues with Tracey Snyder.

Fracking: she has met with the people several times, went to the meetings, and is now on the new Commission appointed by the City to try to work this out.

Boys and Girls Club: Tracey was on the Stakeholders group since the start, along with Scott Jaquaith. She helped bring the club to Kearney and has continued to advocate for a stand alone club.

The Dog Track: She was part of the URA that purchased the property so that the citizens could have it to decide what they wanted done with it.

Sorry Bob, but your arguement makes no sense! You just sound nasty, as others have pointed out.

So everyone is posting that the admin at the PD is out of control and someone says the union runs the show? I am confused! We know this is true....what happened to Brian Hebrard? Who was there then that is there now? Come on people...think?!
