Hey there fellow citizens of Commerce City.

Ask yourself this question:

If CCPD Chief Baca would have NOT resigned to spend time with his family, what would have happened?

Happy New Year

First of all, I want to thank the whistle blower at the PD for exposing corruption instead of allowing it to go on for years. Staff-splitting is a common problem in Criminal Justice. I have wondered why CCPD did not find that huge drug warehouse before an outside agency and I still wonder if there are any more out there.

Secondly, Bob Zeiler is like a founding father and the backbone of CC and really cares about what is going on in our town. He has a right to write what concerns him about his town and about city council. Just like you do! Over the holidays, I found out that we are not all that divided in our care and concern about our hometown. We all want the same success for our city. We just have different philosophies about how to get there. Which came first? The chicken or the egg? According to the creation story, it would have been the chicken as God created all the animals. So, that is the question! How, do we get there?

Anonymous said...

I dont know Estelle, Bob Zeiler comes across as bitter. He doesnt seems to have his facts clear.

And one thing I know for sure is that when I heard that Tracey Snyder was chosen to be on the Committee that is working on the fracking situation, I was happy. And so are my neighbors. We need someone who will stand by the people and not cow tow down to the Oil and Gas people.

Anonymous said...

You don't need to look too far to see where the corruption lies within CCPD. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. And that picture is on the front page of the Gateway, although there are a few players missing. The FOP believes they are untouchable now because of their political endorsements. Yep, they have said they have city council members in their pocket now. Interesting how this all started happening after the new council was seated. And one of the most corrupt employees is related to the mayor by marriage.

Estelle Remington said...

Fracking Committee

Did anyone read in Sunday's Post that Ohio suffered a 4 point earthquake and they think it might be from their fracking activities? I trust the people named to the Oil Committee: Tom Acre, CM Brian McBoom and Miz Cordero. We must stay within Colorado guidelines and follow the law. I'm sure that Tracey Snyder will do her best but she is one person and needs to be a team player in this most urgent situation. She can not stand alone and this is not a time for getting tough but a time of reconciliation between the State, the world's need for Oil and our city's safety.

Anonymous said...

Whatever! FOP is right on!
Clear examples of corruption at the top. Needs to be cleaned up!

Commerce City has to consider the transportation industry.

Heavy Vehicle fee is not a good time for us.

CC Council please table this until the economy picks up.

Anonymous said...

The union thinks they can have it their own way. They want to be paid for every little extra, and get all the perks. Look at the cops who were just reinstated in Denver-and think Commerce City. If they are held to standards, they complain to city council members and get rid of chiefs. And each complaint of wrong doing- the cop gets up to $10000 and more for legal fees. There is where the cleaning house is needed.

Anonymous said...

We have no doubt that Tracey Snyder will do her very best on the Oil and gas Commission.
Estelle, no matter what she does, you always have something unkind to say about her! First she was "campaigning" and that was why she was involved. Then it came to light that the North isnt even in her House District anymore, so now its something about not being a team player? Give us, and Tracey, a break! Enough already!
She is great and she does a good job!
How many people who have put in as many years and hours of hard work, finally have a chance to breathe, but instead choose to dive right back in to help the people? Really, the bashing of Tracey Snyder gets so old!

Anonymous said...

Big surprise for the Commerce City staff. The citizens of the anti fracking group are refusing to sit down at the meeting tomorrow night with the city staff's "friends" from the Oil and Gas industry at a meeting that was stacked against the citizens. The first of many steps to come as the citizens take their city back from a city staff who for too many years has run this city like it is their own personal piggy bank. City council should start listening to their citizens for a change and STOP LISTENING TO A CORRUPT CITY STAFF. Thank you to the CC police department FOP for demanding that corruption be stopped. Long fight ahead, but will be worth it in the end. And HI to the group that we just heard about that is watching this blog.

The city of Commerce City is having a fracking meeting with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on Thursday January 5, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Civic Center conference room 2108. If you are a resident and are concerned about fracking you can attend. This is in addition to the Ward 2 meeting being held on January 10. They are giving citizens only 10 minutes to comment at the end which should be from 6:50 to 7:00 pm so come late if you need after work.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the Anti Fracking Group has decided that they will not meet with the City and their Oil and Gas people tonight. I have no doubt that the City will be unhappy, and somehow try to spin this that the people on this group are in the wrong.
However, I can assure everyone that these dedicated citizens are only asking that things be fair. The way it is set up now, it is not.

A letter was sent to the City explaining the position of the group. Hopefully for once the City will take a hard look at what is going on, and decide to do right by the people! There is so much more here than meets the eye that it isnt even funny! Stay tuned folks!

My 2 cents worth about Tracey Snyder.
Years ago she tried to abandon us in Ward 4 when she ran aginst Ed Caso mid term. Thanks Tracey!!
Then she F@&:ed the boys and girls when she campaigned aginst the Seat Tax that would of built a Boys & Girls Club if it would of passed. Thanks Tracey!
Then she and most or all Council members voted aginst $8 million to build a Boys & Girls club at Monico park? Thanks agin Tracey Snyder!!!!!
So you all can say all your nice things about her and that's cool but please remember we would have a Boys & Girls club here in Commerce City if she really cared about us and our kids.
And Bob Ziler use to support her till he learned her true colors.

Bob but not Bob Ziler.

Fracking

For those that intend to attend the Ward II meeting at Landmark Academy, Tuesday, 6:30 to 8:30. goggle, earth's crust and earthquakes and the Niobrara Formation of Denver Basin of Eastern Colorado and you will learn a great deal of information about oil companies and what the intention is for Colorado. "Drill, baby, drill." The one thing these companies do not want is for the State and citizens to get involved. There are only certain areas we can complain about: the negative effects on property values; increased traffic; contamination of water aquifers due to fracking; amount of water used for fracking and the noise and smells during drilling. However, a new one is developing near Youngstown, Ohio, about earthquakes from the dumping of contaminated waste waters from fracking activities.

Commerce City for this Monday:
Executive session pursuant to C.R.S. 24-6-402(4)(b) for the purpose of receiving legal advice concerning police department operations.

Is this to talk about getting the "consultant" to review and fire a bunch of people?

Anonymous said...

Just a few words of reply to the Anonymous person who said those things about Tracey:

1.Tracey never abandoned anyone in Ward 4. Yes, she ran against Ed Casso, because there was nobody willing to stand up and run. We admired her for taking that on since nobody else was willing to do it. A completely different situation than now, when Dominick has known for months that she was running, and that she is a good and strong candidate. He has no excuse for bailing out. And for the record, look what we got-Ed Casso is an embarrassment that has been punished by the Speaker of the House and has done nothing for Commerce City. Clearly we would have been better off with Tracey Snyder in that seat!

2.Tracey was against the seat tax, because of the way it was written, because it would have run our small businesses out of town, such as the 88th Ave Drive Inn. I dont know about you, but we have had some good times out at that Drive Inn, and I sure enjoy taking my kids out there on a nice summer night! So I say Thank You to Tracey for supporting the businesses!

3. We have a Boys and Girls Club here in Commerce City, it is located at Kearney Middle School, and it does very well! Were you not aware that we have a club? Tracey has been on the Stakeholders Group that has worked hard to keep the Club at Kearney and to find a way to build a stand alone club. I guess you also are not aware that the Urban Renewal Authority, which Tracey is the Vice president of, purchased the Dog Track for the people of Commerce City, and gave a portion of the land to the Boys and Girls Club to build the new stand alone Club!
So, I guess that you are sadly misinformed about Tracey!
And Bob Zeiler is just one man. I am sure that Tracey respects his choice to support whomever he wants to!
The majority of the people support Tracey!
Perhaps a hand full of people that are constantly negative should take a look at this woman who has raised her two children as a single mom, has gone back to school, became our Mayor Pro Tem, and did it well, and even survived a terrible accident that nearly killed her! She deserves our support! She has earned it!

Anonymous said...

We all have our own opinions about Tracey. You have yours and I have mine. She is just being nice now because she wants my vote. Well she lost my vote a long time ago. Everyone in office should stand up for the entire city even though only a few voted for them. Maybe someday they will want more votes? Well you don't get mine.

Yes we have a very successful Boys & Girls club but we would of had a full time one if Tracey would of been a leader instead of a follower. Just my 1 opinion and my 1 vote.

Single Moms

Just to keep the record straight, Tracey Snyder took her significant other, boy friend, with her on city business trips and out of state trips for years. This was years before, it was even allowable. The city was billed as if he was her spouse. There were several pictures of her boy friend and Tracey at city functions in public papers, etc. There are thousands of single moms, myself included that went back to college, served on volunteer groups for city and State and worked three jobs to raise children. In fact, this is what most single parents have had to do and there are thousands of single moms out there doing the same thing, today and we didn't get to take our boyfriends along on business trips. The Drive-in had been there for 40 some years and the seat tax would have brought in millions in future taxes for CC. Perhaps, we could have passed a special arrangement for them? The seat tax would only go towards the Boys and Girls Club until it reached the 7 million cost and then it would go to the city.

Estelle,
I think you actually lose alot of credibility when you continue to go after people like Tracey. Its just overboard and makes you look bad.
Yes Tracey took her boyfriend with her, just as Sean Ford took his wife, and Rene Bullock took his wife, and so on and so on. That was Council policy way before Tracey was on Council. And there was nothing wrong with it. I know the kind of family time those folks lose by being on Council.
Yes Tracey is a single mom and has done alot of good things despite working two jobs and having a sick child. Only you could make those things into something bad! Really! Why dont we celebrate those in our City that are willing to make the real sacrifices (not just sit behind a computer and be hateful) and stand up to serve our City? We are lucky to have her! I cant for the life of me figure out why anyone would put themselves through the brutal beatings these people get, just to serve! I say thank you to Tracey Snyder, and all the others who have worked hard for us!

I spoke to Tracey Snyder about Bob Zeiler. She said that she does not now, nor has she ever, had any problems of issues with Bob Zeiler. She said that its ok, and that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

She is a leader, and I believe she handles things the right way. Even the negative.

City Policy

Council Policy #CP-6 was adopted July 3, 1995 and modified, Sept. 2003 for "Reimbursement of Council expenses and city related business." Part VII "Travel and Conference expenses may be reimbursed for a spouse, an immediate family member (Parents and Children.) or significant other." Council members and guests could go to one in-state function and one out-of-state function each year. The idea was that this was a reward to family members for the long hours council members served away from home. Some members of city council have abused city policy for years spending thousands of taxpayer dollars on upgrades for hotels, rooms, meals, alcohol, extra days, tickets for entertainment, limos and side trips. A citizen's committee revised and modified the 2003 policy in 2005-06 and city council just revised and modified policy again in 2011. Today, some members of city council are sent for city business and end up doing business for themselves and their upcoming elections.

I prefer to serve this city behind the scenes. I have served on two committees for 18 months each and I am currently serving on two citizen committees. I don't wave any banners for my years of service nor do I ask any special thank you. I like contributing to the foundations of building this city for all the people, North and South. Believe it or not, I speak as much for the Core City as anyone. I am greatly concerned for the hungry children, the homeless and those that have been cheated of a good education.

Anonymous said...

The Motor Carriers are upset with Commerce City because City Staff have a dedicated auditor try to screw them out of every dime!

If it is not fixed and fixed soon. They will leave.

Fracking, Pipeline, Suncor Leak, No movement on the Dog Track (still think it was a big mistake to use tax payers money on this), no walmart, movement at Victory Crossings. And all the staff up and left for whatever reason. The Morale in Commerce City is very low.

CC: Pass the 2nd said...

I understand a "Total"ban is maybe not possible in Commerce City or even Adams County. What I think the people want is a 6 month study to take a look at all the factors that are involved. Especially it being so close to the Rocky mountain Arsenal.

Too many unknowns are in play. No one really knows how big the Plume is coming from the arsenal.

What is the big rush anyhow? What is 6 months? Are we running out of oil and gas? Will the gas not be there in 6 months to be fracked?

I would encourage the Commerce City Council to do the right thing and pass the ordinance on the 6 mo. moratorium on fracking on second reading in Commerce City.

Earth's cycle

I don't know how many know that a mega volcano with the power of several atomic bombs is doming and getting ready to go off under Yellowstone Lake. It goes off every 600,000 years and has been expected to go off since 1970 and will change the course of the earth's weather. It will destroy everything within a 100 mile radius. If, the State of Colorado allows oil and gas companies to drill, at will, it could set off a chain of events we might never recover from. It is not that oil companies cannot drill it is that we have to be good stewards of the earth and give mother nature a chance to recover before we just drill indiscriminately. There is an ancient society that predicts that an earthquake will break off the entire Western half of North America and that Inland Sea will return where it was some 65 million years ago. That volcano could go off any day, we have no way of predicting when it will occur. It may throw us into a winter climate for years. We need a moratorium to develop a plan so that next generations can survive. We must drill wisely and store up much needed gas and heating oil for these terrible times ahead. And, yes, it could be another 100 years until it goes off but we need a plan and to be prepared. Don't take my word for it, research and find out for yourself.

He couldnt possibly know what it is like to walk a mile in her shoes, and that is what makes her the best candidate!
He went to college, she went to college. She raised two children as a single mom, well, he is still a kid himself. She has served the City for more than 13 years, nine of them on Council, he was just elected. I could go on and on.

Polictics gets mean, we all know that. But we ask the voters to keep a clear head through all of this. Dominick has plenty of time to learn and grow. That being said, Tracey Snyder is by far the best candidate for House District 32!

Please, if you do nothing else, please, look at and read the document sections of the City Confidential article in GN. There are special interest groups in CC that are working behind key committees to undo and change even city council's passed motions. Some residents of CC feel that their phones and e-mail are closely monitored. These special interest groups, ask, no demand that their representatives be named to these key committees for the sole purpose of changing expected outcomes taking us far away from any democratic process of government. What the voters want. Because these groups do not actually have the power to vote they are manipulating the decision making process in CC by the power of representation in numbers instead of actual constitutional right. In other words, they are coming in through the back door for taxpayers money. If, what I am saying is not making sense to you, read it again and look at the documents until it makes sense.

I will walk door to door if Natale is really running for office TO BEG PEOPLE TO NOT VOTE FOR HIM. We will need years to recover from the destruction he caused in Commerce City. Natale the voters are smart.

In responses to anonymous.

Yes, Mary Morton is my mother-in-law. No, this is not a violation of any law or policy. Some facts for our anonymous pundit to digest. The position of any director on the Board of Education is on a voluntary basis, so there is no financial compensation. There is board policy which prevents any member of the Adams 14 BOE from receiving financial gain from their service. This is contrary to a charter school where individuals can enjoy the financial spoils by manipulating the governing board through friends, family, and intimidation. Mary Morton has attended school board meetings for the last two and a half years, in addition to being active in our community for parents. As I was supportive of more candidates then there were postions I did not actively campaign for specific candidates. Instead, I elected to campaign for voters to vote. There were seven candidates who ran for the board, all which with the knowledge of the relationship between Mary and myself. None made an issue of this when publicly campaigning. I would infer from this they too did not feel this to ba an issue. Further, we have had past members of the BOE who have had immediate family employed by the very administration they manage. That is not to say that there was any wrongdoing but merely fact. Lastly, the position is publicly elected. Therefore, regardless of any circumstance it is the will of the community that placed her in the position.
If you have concerns I welcome you to speak with Mary, myself,or any member of the BOE. My number is 303-288-2723. All of the other BOE members info is available at the website or you can collect a business card at any school facility. Further, you can speak directly at any meeting. They are held at the ESS building, by the Rec center, every 2nd and 4th Tues.
For all those who read this we have far to go. Our results are unacceptable and we will be making difficult decisions and taking action to improve our performance. However, for children to be successful they need support from the entire community. Get involved, North or Core it does not matter, spend some time with a child. Read to them, listen to them, practice math. Challenge them to start achieving their future success by laying the foundation now.

GN,
I heard that Larry Ford (Sean's Dad) is going to make a run for Adams County Commish at the Reagan Club dinner.

Looks like the pool is getting bigger.

Adrian Schimpf is a good leader, period.

Look at the results, look at where Adams Cty School Dist. 14 is currently.

We do NOT need to concentrate on petty issues.

We need to get our kids, our future on track!

We are facing huge financial problems and major state wide philosophical shifts!

BOE members need to focus on the real issue THE KIDS and not worry about stupid petty crap by those who have an axe to grind for personal reasons!

Paul, Tracey, Larry, Dominick, and a handful of some others are all running for state and county elected positions.

That is a first for Commerce City.

There will be a meeting at Alsup elementary school Feb 6th at 530pm for DAAC. For those who do not know DAAC is the District Advisory and Accountability Commitee. It is an organization of volunteers from the community, parents, staff, and business who meet once per month to provide input regarding educational topics. There are committees for drop out prevention, parent/community involvement, safety, etc. Also, each school presents what it is doing monthly to educate and support our chidren. It is a great way to be involved in the direction that we as a community take. It is also a less formal arena to engage educational leaders and to gain a better understanding of the reaqlities and challenges and facing our state and district. As we begin the budget creation cycle this is great chance for opinions to be heard. Further, the president of DAAC, Devin Eastridge is soliciting volunteers to participate in the budget advisory committee.

Also, we have our last meeting regarding the proposed boudaries adjustment at Monaco this Wed.@ 6pm. The schools affected are Alsup, Monaco, and Dupont. Hanson will also be affected but only at the Preschool level. Turnout at the three prior meetings has been poor so please attend and bring forth your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions.

Wow, did the City Council of Commerce City actually CLAP when there were no citizens signed up for Citizen Communication??

Do they remember who they represent? That certainly is a new low!
