I want to personally thank the citizens group for speaking out at this last city council meeting. You all did a wonderful service to your fellow citizens that live in the Northern Range showing how much you care about your neighbor's quality of life. On Jim Benson's comment about only the lawyers win in any court process. I disagree! For 236 years, it is this same court process that has made America what we are today. Even, the lawyer CC hired could not say that a MOU or going to court would make a difference with the Hilcorp. Jadie Carson's comment that a few of her constituents have said that we should allow drilling was typical of someone who has been sitting on the sidelines on city council. John Locke said that in society we need to have the"greatest good for the greatest number of people." We have 23,748 men, women and children that live in the Northern range, one or two people that would like to see drilling happen because it is not in their back yards is so wrong. Equally as wrong, is the thought that Ms. Carson would actually consider one or two people to speak for her entire Ward of several thousands. GN would you do a poll to see how many in CC want drilling? You could do it by Ward and see what the results are.

There are 3 important things to remember for next week.

#1 To attend the Democratic Caucus Tuesday March 6 at
Adams City High School. 6:30-8:30

#2 That the best choice you can make for the Office of State Rep.of House Dist.32 will be Dominick Moreno.

#3 Actually there are two choices here.
A: That you agree with #2
B: Or you can choose to be wrong

Pro Moreno said...

Mr. Moreno has proven himself as a leader over and over again. He will make a great Rep.

Anonymous said...

Mr Zeiler. Please list what Moreno has done because the majority of us cannot find one thing. After you post your list then you can ask for folks to support but not before you tell us. He is not a leader by any stretch of the imagination and most certainly does not represent the hard working families who have Christian values in our community. Moreno does not know who he represents and the people don't know who he really is. Post here who Moreno really is.

Where is the FBI to investigate. I would rather live in Denver!

The city's timeline is short to act!

In response to anonymous's comments about Mr. Moreno. I'm not Mr. Zeiler but I can tell you some of the things he has done for the city.

He has done an awful lot during his time on council. First of all he is well educated. He attended one of the most prestigious colleges in America, and then came back to Commerce City to work for the citizens. That right there shows what kind of person he is. He also helped pass a collective bargaining ordinance for the workers of Commerce City. He sponsored a resolution against cutting rebates for solar energy. He helped cut the elected officials retirement fund which in turn will save the tax payers an enormous amount of money. He was promoted to Mayor Pro Tem and sits on numerous boards.

He is young and involved! He is one of the best leaders Commerce City has right now. He most certainly represents the hard working families of our community. He was born and raised in this community and is the son of very hard working parents. He knows what its like to live and grow up here. He will work for the kids on issues like education. He is our best choice for state rep!

He is a great person....have you met him or talked with him? Clearly you haven't....

I saw some pretty questionable things going on at caucus last night! if Dominick is so good than why the obvious rule breaking to get him elected? More to come on this issue, as I was there and saw it all for myself....

Tracey does not have to stoop to that level to win an election. Not her style and not the style of someone we would want to represent our City.

Dear Pro Safe Frack,

No council on Monday So i guess the CC council will have a whole week to get their RIOT act practiced.

I can imagine them all practicing in the mirror of how they are going to tell everyone how despicable the north citizens are for crashing their press conference.

By the way, I am against fracking. I do not like an industry that does not have to play by the same rules because they have tons of money.

Using dangerous chemicals to get natural gas is too much cost for the benefit. I am for wind and solar.

They reason why no one else is for wind and solar is because they cant make the big money on it. So it is largely ignored.

Someday, maybe in 20 to 30 years we will wake up. Until then we are all just fracked.

Caucusly Dissapointed said...

What went wrong at the caucus?

Well I was there. I can tell you that people are upset for good reason. Has nothing to do with how many people each candidate had there. I am older, this is not my first time. I saw rules of conduct being broken, and that is not what caucus is supposed to be about.

You do not pressure people to be delegates. You do not sign people up to be delegates after the precint has closed, I saw this happen first hand! Tove Forgo lets Dominic Moreno get away with all kinds of illegal things. Read the packet for caucus. Ther rules are clear. Rules were broken. There are witnesses.

I went with an open mind. No candidate chosen. What I saw was a circus and nobody in charge of allowing one candidate to walk around and pressure people, and make them take off the stickers of the other candidate. Having people sign up to be delegates after the rest of the group at that table was gone. You cant do that.

This was just wrong. The paperwork says "fair and equitable". This was outrageous behiavior and frankly I am dissapointed in the party for allowing this.

What the frack? said...

I am sick and tired of Dominick claiming that he has done anything to support the anti fracking movement. Let me be very clear here- he has done nothing! He has been at no meetings, and he, with the rest of the Council, has treated the very citizens they represent horribly!
Dominick Moreno is as fake as the day is long! Tracey Snyder has been at the meetings, has attended the Oil and Gas Committee meetings at the City, has been one of the many people the Council has abused in this process.
People we need to stand up and not allow the City and the Council to get away with this!
Its pretty obvious that Tracey Snyder cares a hell of alot more than Dominick ever will! And the Council behavior is horrific!

Anonymous said...

Oh I have met him alright. Having education does NOT make one a leader. Neither does having hard working parents. What makes a great leader is the ability to listen and be respectful and make decisions for the largest number. Moreno has demonstrated over again he does not listen and does not act. Maybe he should actually get a job raise a family and learn what real life is first. He is a pathetic representative of who people really are in our city. We are not unemployed people who brag about education paid for by others who live alternative lifestyles. There it is said.

Hydraulic fracturing is a proven technology that has been refined over 60 years. It has allowed companies to safely produce natural gas from more than one million U.S. wells, and now it is being used to extract oil and other liquids from shale formations, such as in the Niobrara play. The State of Colorado has been regulating drilling activity since 1951. Every aspect is overseen by the COGCC. Over 90 percent of wells in Colorado are hydraulically fractured. The essential factor with respect to the safety of hydraulic fracturing is proper well construction, including casing and cementing to isolate the production formations being stimulated from shallow groundwater aquifers.

Below is an update forwarded to the City Manager’s Office from Hilcorp regarding the Custy #1 Well.

“Hilcorp will be pumping a treatment to clear the perforations in the Custy #1 on March 20, 2012. The process will take one day and there will be approximately 3 trucks on location. The treatment will be followed with Nitrogen and therefore there could be some venting of nitrogen as they bleed off lines. Afterword, it may be necessary to have a swab rig on the well for several days to help recover the treatment. No fracturing involved with this process.”

Dear Anonymous and Team Tracey,

I don't really think you can twist someone's arm or hold a gun to their head to make them sign up as a delegate. This is an individual choice. Also, you can not pull someone's sticker off and make them take one for the other candidate.

I'm surprised that you would stoop this low and make up these pathetic allegations.

If are truly a supporter of Tracey you wouldn't write such outlandish statements because this really makes Tracey look bad!

Political races always get ugly and mud is thrown especially when the other candidate is losing.....

Parks in the North

Once again, the topic of parks vs. trails has come up. The Core City has realized what the North has already known that Pioneer Park which is one of the biggest and most expensive parks in Colorado is not a family park but a park for teenage and young adult activities. In the city's C3 Comprehensive Plan it calls for 6 acres per 1,000 people for the city with two arterial to a park area or about 142 park acres for the Northern Range. Reunion has 52 acres of park and open space with 32 different play areas, all paid for by those residents. That leaves about 90 acres to be provided by other HOAs and residents. In an old survey, 2007, Parks and Rec decided they would support trails instead of Parks because trails were much cheaper. However, as many of the HOAs could not afford to build these expensive parks for their residents and the city insisted on providing only trails the children, about 7,000+, of the Northern range have no place to actually play. The few trails that Parks and Rec have built up North are used by only a handful of residents as the Reunion people have their own rec center and pool areas. Whenever, the topic of Park areas comes up in a conversation with Park and Rec representatives one gets the same old stories and spin that has always been given of, no money and this old outdated survey. The money and grants are there it is just being spent on different priorities than where the people up North want it to go! Some people are saying that the North will have to wait until this next build out at DIA North or until about 2030 when the trails have all been built but our children will grow up and be long gone at that point. With thousands of houses being built along Tower Rd./Denver and in the Stapleton areas that have planned parks and rec., people don't have to even buy here for their "Quality of Life." They will buy elsewhere or at Reunion! Cheap trails without people makes no sense. Also, there is no way to know how safe it is to even breathe in,walk pets and/or children around this Northern arsenal area that was one of the most contaminated soil, groundwater, Superfund areas in the U.S. in 1982-99. One of the highest areas of contamination wastes 27,000 Bcy of North soil is buried right near this trail and that North pump station and settling pond at 96th and Peoria has processed over 750 million gallons of contaminated waste into reinjection wells.

I was at the caucus at AC last week. What makes me mad is that anyone thinks or would say that Tracey Snyder plays dirty! As a life long Dem I am ashamed to say that just the opposite is true. Get the petitions signed Tracey! Come to my door and we will sign in a minute!! Take it to the voters where it REALLY counts and we will see a different outcome!

Shameful actions said...

Dominick Moreno has nothing to be happy about! His and his teams behavior was some of the worst I have ever seen! Picture us turning our backs on you Mr. Moreno, because thats what we are all doing!!

And I dont want to see Pro Moreno or Ed Casso on here saying she is jealous. Those actions are not a thing to be jealous of!!

Tracy Snyder can petition her way onto the ballot. The delegates to the Democrat nominating convention are long-time party "leaders" who don't want a former Republican running for the District 32 seat. The actual voters will support Tracy because she listens to the community and cares for citizens. Where do we sign?

I can understand living in Commerce City a high industrial area if it had some pay off. I can put up with the cummins and pipe makers and industry if then we got something out of it.

Like maybe a real Rec Center in the north.

As far as I have seen so far. Commerce City invites industry in but then gets nothing in return.

A bunch of high paid staff with very low performance.

I don't understand why anyone would want to live here.

If Commerce City does not enforce its police Power, they have no validity at all.

Gases and Dentists

On my way to the dentist, we drove past 96th Ave and Buckley and the gas company was installing some new unit. As, we passed, I could see the workers were wearing gas masks. I said to my husband,"My God, they are wearing gas masks, do you have your camera with you?" He didn't. Has anyone else noticed that First Creek crossing over 96th between Peoria and Potomac has stagnated? Be careful when walking dogs in that area not to let them drink that water. There could be contaminants and now even gas bubbling up!

Here in CC my dentist said I had a small surface cavity and quoted an outrageous price 3X what it eventually cost to do. My old dentist said that there are other dentists using scams telling people they have cavities and charging outrageous prices all over the Denver Area. If, it appears outrageous get a second opinion.

Nothing has prevented fracking from happening. They have a clear path in front of them. No one regulates them, no one goves them a hard time that really has any power and they are going full force ahead.

My question is this,

Why is it that gas prices are so damn high? Why is it that the heating bill is so damn high and they are trying to increase the rates?

Is it because they are shipping all of the product over seas? Are they hoarding it?

If it is suppose to be the solution and the answer to all of our problems?

Or are they just price gouging us because the real reason is all about money?

Anadarko deferred to Hilcorp. It is staff’s understanding based on this conversation that Hilcorp wants to force a decision by COGCC regarding the current permit. Upside is it will likely take 30 days or so to get the permit issued, we are still waiting for a site plan, and also we can still force a public hearing through the COGCC permit process. Additionally, Hilcorp is not planning to do anything for 60-90 days due to rig availability. So by default still have voluntary stand down."

So that is why Jim Benson is saying there is a "moratorium" not really one, just say that because they do not have the equipment.

Self-Cleaning Admin

Since,City Manager, Jerry Flannery has gone, it appears that we are self-cleaning our administrative positions. From our Police Chief, ED department and to our Deputy City Manager. Those that have lost a vision for where this city needs to go in the coming years are moving on. The next department that needs to clean up is the Communications Department. We currently have an in-house group of, I believe seven employees, under Michelle Halstead and the Communications Infrastructure Group from Evergreen and the P & R Group that puts a spin on everything. We can not afford all of this. One group has to go! And, that one group is the CIG from Evergreen who we were told only does some graphics work for about $403,000 per year but whom Michelle Halstead paid $54,000 to do 6 Dog Track meetings. Some expensive graphics! Now, we are taking a $70,000 Grant, In-kind, to do a comprehensive study of what will actually work at the Dog Track after these expensive meetings to get an unbiased wish list and our contest with the Masters college students for their winning suggestions which all comes down to no actual input into the future of use of the Dog Track for thousands of dollars of cost to the taxpayers. Whether, we match that $70,000, In-kind, we are still paying city employees to do the work, paid by the taxpayers up to $70,000. Which could have gone elsewhere. Sometimes, the finance department just makes no sense! Cummins is getting two incentives one from the city and one from Colorado's Enterprise Zone that totals about $310,000 and they are not a member of the GID up North nor do they pay the same .27 infrastructure rates as Northern residents pay. They made a decision to move to CC and they need to come on board as much as any resident. Once again, the Northern Range GID will pay the construction of that new road around Cummins as it was planned before Cummins arrived for $2 million dollars and everyone in the city including Cummins which made a choice to build there will benefit and use these new roads. Again, this all makes no sense! Think about that, these roads were planned before we built our homes up North so does that mean that we should not have to pay the .27 GID infrastructure rates?

Gina said...

Rocky Mountain Arsenal Information and why we should maybe think twice before fracking in the area

Manufacturing Operations

Weapons manufactured at RMA included both conventional and chemical munitions, including white phosphorus, napalm, and mustard gas. RMA is also one of the few sites that had a stockpile of Sarin gas (aka nerve agent GB), an organophosphorus compound, and one of the most toxic substances ever created in a lab. The manufacture of these weapons continued until 1969. Rocket fuel to support Air Force operations was also manufactured and stored at RMA. Subsequently, through the 1970s until 1985, RMA was used as a demilitarization site to destroy munitions and chemically related items. Coinciding with these activities, from 1946 to 1982, the Army leased RMA facilities to private industries for the production of pesticides. One of the major lessees, Shell Oil Company, along with Julius Hyman and Company and Colorado Fuel and Iron, had manufacturing and processing capabilities on RMA between 1952 and 1982. The military reserved the right to oust these companies and re-start chemical weapon production in the event of a national emergency.

Deep Injection Well

RMA contained a deep injection well that was constructed in 1961.[1] It was drilled to a depth of 12,045 feet (3671 m). The well was cased and sealed to a depth of 11,975 feet (3650 m), with the remaining 70 feet (21 m) left as an open hole for the injection of Basin F liquids. For testing purposes, the well was injected with approximately 568,000 US gallons (2150 m³) of city water prior to injecting any waste. The injected fluids had very little potential for reaching the surface or usable groundwater supply since the injection point had 11,900 feet (3630 m) of rock above it and was sealed at the opening. The Army discontinued use of the well in February 1966 because the fluid injection may have triggered a series of earthquakes in the area. The well remained unused until 1985 when the Army permanently sealed the disposal well.

Environmental Issues

In 1984, the Army began a systematic investigation of site contamination in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA), commonly referred to as Superfund. In 1987, the RMA was placed on the National Priorities List (NPL) of Superfund sites. As provided by CERCLA, a Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) was conducted to determine the extent of contamination. Since 1985, the mission at RMA has been the remediation of the site.

Contaminants

The primary contaminants include organochloride pesticides, organophosphate pesticides, carbamate insecticides, organic solvents and feedstock chemicals used as raw products or intermediates in the manufacturing process (e.g., chlorinated benzenes), heavy metals, and chemical warfare material and their related breakdown products. Additionally, ordnance (including incendiary munitions) was manufactured and tested, and asbestos and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were used at RMA. Today, it is considered a hazardous waste site according to the Colorado Department of Public and Environmental Health.
