hey gateway,

I heard that some, not all, JUST some of the citizens are boycotting the operation commerce survey as a protest against the city (out of control money being spent on consultants) the stuff Orval Lewis was talking about, you hear anything about this?

Core Comments

Gateway News said...

No I have not heard anything about this. My comment would be that this is their city and it is imperative to the success of the survey that they do participate.

Core comments.....again trying to plant the "seed" of discontent. Always the negative direction.
At least this council is spending money to improve and direct the city, unlike the old adminstration which lined their own pockets, bought recognition and brought about a bad name for the city.

Anonymous said...

hey core comments
what a surpise! Why is it that you, cc speaks(what a laugh),and the rest of your carsz club buddies are the only ones always "hearing" these rumors. Could it be because you sit around making them up?
Is it not time for you all to grow up and move on instead of trying to bring our city down to your level?
I hope the citizens realize that there are at least 3 of you people running this November.

Anonymous said...

Watched some of the videos of the citizen communications, wow some of the people are real characters. People should be required to take and pass a breathalyzer before they are allowed to speak. I can only imagine what people think of Commerce City after they see and hear some of these people. I sure hope voters look at the person’s qualifications and ability to interact with council and corporate America.

Gina, just keep in mind that core comments loves to spred negative ideas.
Also , they're statement was "some, not all" isn't that like saying never and always. Of course some "might" boycott, I can think of two or three who would just to say they did.
Don't buy into corecomments "comments"!

Fred A. said...

I would say that the council respond to all the questions back in the public setting. Every week we are left hanging. I want to know the answers to the questions asked in citizen communication. I hear a lot of the answers to these question might clear up some of the rumors out there.

I would think that if a person were running for city council position they would not have to go to Council meetings and talk about things that do not concern Council Persons or Citizens attending these meetings.(Examples) Telling about a family reunion, How beautiful the buffalo golf course is.What they think they have done in the community. ETC. ETC.
Also if everyone who does speak or have a complaint. If they know so much about the workings of the City. Why not go directly to the head of any department and take the matter up with them.

I heard that Orval Lewis made some comment about not wanting to be copied on the mayor's emails. I guess you do know how to use a computer? I don't get it.

The northern range had money set aside for our parks, money paid by our developers. The city borrowed this money to build Pioneer Park in the south and were to pay it back in five years with 4 percent interest. Now they don't want to pay it back because they want credit for money used years ago for River Run Park. What the heck???? I don't think so, try another idea. How unfair is this? We can't even get to Pioneer Park from the north, too far away.

If the other people on council were not doing illegal things regarding the way they act, we as the taxpayers would not have to pay for Benson's lawyer. Benson is a lawyer and knows what he is talking about, when the rest of the council learns that, there won't be any legal fees. Benson is always right.

Anonymous said...

You are kidding your self if you believe Mr. Benson is always right, he MAY be usually in the LEGAL area, but he pushes to the limit and ethics are to be da__ed.
His so called belief in transparency is about others not himself.

Anonymous said...

The city is doing it's best to maintain its finances during a tough time and some want the city to pay for a shuttle to Pioneer Park???
Again it isn't about the best for all, but the individual.
If we all tightened our belts and did without, we could find ways to do so many things. Instead we want the government to provide everything to everyone....it has to stop or we will be either taxed to death or broke!

Anonymous said...

speaking of shuttles, I heard a rumor that Brighton was going to start a shuttle service from Reunion to the Brighton Prairie Center, increasing the leakage out of Commerce City.

Rumor?

Anonymous said...

I guess I don't see the benefit of shuttles to Prarie Center from Reunion.
People in the north are not house bound (unable to get where they want to go)if you were talking about the core or a retirement area, that might work.
Personally, I don't want to wait on a shuttle to be on their time line. How often could they possibly go?
It's not like Prarie Center is a large mall like Flat Irons or Park Meadows, where people could spend hours...
Rumors are exactly that & often started to instagate.

Anonymous said...

Pioneer Park is NOT too far away from the northern range. Hell. since the majority of the people there got there sneaking across rocky deserts in the dark you can surely get there form the north.

About three years ago, we had called the Commerce City Police about drug sales between elementary school children in our drainage area's large cement pipes next to our house at Eagle Creek. Sometime after that, a huge graffiti message appeared on our back fence along Highway #2 about a boy killer with a gun. After that, the entire fence in front of our subdivision on Eagle Creek Parkway and along our house fence was covered with a graffiti message about one gang wiping out another area gang. A year later, Foreclosures started to happen in our subdivision and many families were simply put out into the streets in the Northern Range Area. This summer, small groups of older teenagers were skateboarding near our drainage pipes again using a ski wax or something that does not wash out of the cement. When, my husband asked them to stop, they cursed him out! Our neighbors children, ages 6 and 7 yrs. are playing soccer in the busy home-bound Eagle Creek Parkway. We could not talk to their parents as they do not speak, English. Hence, for these past three years, the children at Eagle Creek have had nothing to do and nowhere to play. Furthermore, all over the Northern Range, there has been an increase in crime as older teenagers are breaking into private homes. In a nutshell, this is our problem as hundreds perhaps thousands of children and teenagers have nothing to do and nowhere to go in the Northern Range.

Recently, we found out that the Northern Range does have a large Park Fund. We will be three years too late for some of our children, but, years ahead for future generations. We need City Parks in the Northern Range, now! Places were children can play ball, can safely skateboard and ride up and down hills of dirt until their heart's content. Also, we need at least one disability area where people can learn how to navigate the great outdoors.

As we have several subdivisions, we would need several smaller parks that our children can walk or bike to. There is little difference of expense between a large park like Pioneer Park and several smaller parks that service several subdivisions. We can not delay on this as our children are depending on us to do the right thing. The fact, that , we have a Dog Park before a Children's Park speaks volumes about our priorities. Finally, I would propose that any money collected in the Northern Range for the City Park Fund will be spent only in the Northern Range. And, I would like to see that written into an Amendment of some kind through City Council. I would respectfully request that a Council member would purpose an Amendment without delay and before any more Park projects are considered.

Yuri said...

good advice Paul.

I wold add, that we all need to look at candidates that are only doing this as there primary employment.

It should never be about money, but what is good for the city.

Mr. Knox,

Thank you for your inquire. Yes advertising is available to anyone on all of the Gateway News websites.

The Tracey Snyder advertisement is $29 per month, and they want to keep it up until Tracey is able to come back to council.

The size is 300px by 350px. I can also create the ad for you if you want. Ads can also be linked to your own website as in the Mile High Market and Scrappytimes.com ads.

Ads can be placed on the sidebars as well as above and below the main banners for $89 (above) and $69 (below) for a 2 week period, first come, first serve basis. Lastly, ad can also be place in the middle column 500px by 300px for $49 per month.

The Gateway News will be uploading all the rates and positions on our website by the end of this weekend.

Currently, just the gatewaynews.org opinion page is getting anywhere from 2,100 to 3,600 hits per week.

If you need anymore additional information please call (720)221-7352.

Once again thank you for comment,

Jason MacEldowney, what was in your email? We all want to know. Please make it public, now we are very curious.

Why did the Mayor respond to Robert Romine during citizen's communication? I thought that citizens were not to be responded to. Whats up with that?

To Yuri. Regarding your question:

"Where are the Parks at in the Northern Range that are owned by the CITY!

The say 4 baseball softball fields, where are they?"

All the parks in Commerce City can be found by using the following link.

Thanks your comments.

But Thank you for the link. you should really twitter this. A lot of people are in the dark about parks in the north.

just was talking politics with some of my fellow citizens. it really shows the times we are in today, when the city only talks about one of the many options as mortgaging off city buildings and people only hear the latter part "mortgaging off city buildings"

People will only hear what they want to hear, and yes it is already a rumor. But what can you do?

The rift in the city was caused by bullock’s nasty statements about Paul Natale and the stupid people in the north that voted for him after he LOST the election. The rift was further exacerbated with anti-Paul/uppity people living in the north comments and attitudes from candidates like romine & liefel. Have you noticed that neither of the three will comment on the blog. They wrote the “north” off and don’t expect to get many if any votes from the “stupid uppity people”….
It’s very humorous to see how these middle aged men ill adjusted to the paradigm shift of our city. We are finally starting to be recognized as clean family friendly place to live thanks to the accomplishments of our mayor, council persons and city staff. We all should applaud their efforts because it was done in one of our nations worst economies.

I think it was despicable for the candidate to campaign by attaching his name to a fundraiser that was already in motion to take advantage of a heartwarming effort. I would be disgraced if that person or type of person was representing our city. He should resign from the race.

My presumptuous opinion

Bob Z said...

what else could a person think of the way Romine campaigns
He doesn't care if the truth is there or not. The things he does are only to get his name out there. some voters will vote for him only because of hearing his name mentioned often and probility think he must be good as he is involved in so many community projects.check him out and see how phony he really is.

Anonymous said...

Dear Presumptous opinion.
I must say I agree with what you said and where your thoughts are coming from
To take this situation a step further.
My take:
Some candidates in the north are running with the direction from those connected with Romine and Rene's campaign (some of these are northern people, that might suprise you), with the sole intent to try and split up the northern vote.
That is why, they are not "directly" looking for voters in the north, but instead looking to divide the north and therefore take the at large votes for Romine and Bullock.
Just my opinion.

Yuri said...

I can see where you are coming from. It is true that all campaigns do have at least some kind of a strategy.

very interesting.

hey gateway,

first I want to say thank you for the videos of manager Flannery. I have to admit I was not a big fan of this current city manager in the beginning, it was the chan. 9 report of the new office renovation that hit a sore chord with me.

I have changed my mind since then. I am impressed with the questions asked and topics discussed. Consultants being a hot topic, (I would refer you to the last comment made by the candidate David Pocs, "we do not need a consultant to do this"), in my opinion a stab at the recent over use of consultants by the city staff.

After hearing the explanation of the city manger of consultants, I am confident now that the city may not be abusing the tax payers money in regards to consultants, the explanation Mr. Flannery gives makes sense and this guy seems cool, calm and collective in his position.

Video interviews has really a good move on whoever idea it was.

video of Flannery are good. I am wondering why the timing was what it was.

Why release this after a terrible sky is falling meeting on monday.

is this a spin?

No spin, the video has been in works for a while. The meeting on Monday was nothing but the situation at hand, nothing more.

There is not much growth in south Commerce City of citizens that are eligible to vote in this country. The north is growing and expanding and as it grows will get more representation. With the anticipated increased population growth the existing northern wards will split again creating more “north” representatives. What then? Too many people here are saying “vote for my friend candidate U! vote for candidate X, he lives in our ward! Vote for candidate Y, he lived in the city longer and one of us! Vote for candidate Z, he’s black, white or Hispanic. Some want to vote for someone that was there in the past. I have to ask: What did he do for the south when there? Did property values increase? Has your neighborhood become more desirable? What have you gained?
We need to make sure the candidates are not self serving and can benefit the community.

This election is very important for the development of our city as a “city of one” We need to vote in candidates that are qualified by education, character, integrity and ability to work with the current members of the council because things need to get done, deals need to be made. If your council person don't get the others to vote on his/her projects guess who loses.
The economy is starting to pickup and we need to get as much business as we can. Council persons are the face to face with the fortune X companies looking for a home. I say again we need candidates that are qualified by education, character, integrity to ensure them that we as a city can handle their needs.

Let’s all get rid of the drama and the drama queens and make Commerce City one of the most desired cities in Colorado. Together it can be done; one city just different neighborhoods.

Gateway,

It was my understanding that the Jason Mceldowney email to council would be made public. The issue was brought up by council Jim Benson who says it violates the sunshine law.

Can you post it here so we know what council Jim Benson is talking about.

Jenkins, Commerce City

Gateway News said...

I really don't know exactly what this is about, but will ask and get back to you. It has been ask a couple of times now.

Gateway News

Basically Jason wrote and sent an email to council members, it was about an idea or two that Jason wanted feedback on.
The sunshine law would regard an email to all council members as a meeting of council, and therefore it should be discussed in public. We need clarification on when and how council members can talk with each other and in what numbers, and where before it falls under the sunshine law!!

Anonymous said...

Shirely and Salty Dog,
Either you haven't been listening to the entire information that was presented, or you want to try and spred a negative view.
I listened to the streaming of the council meeting ie: budget on Monday night.
It was clearly explained that when looking at possible ways to tighten the budget ALL POSSIBLE options are put on the table.
If you have ever done a personal budget or business budget than you know what this means. Everything is looked at, but certainly NOT a real possiblity.
Wake up, times are tough for all cities, but our city is lucky to be in good shape.
This is the time we can point to our city and say, we don't have to cut jobs we only have to tighten our belt.

DeeDee said...

So will it be public record soon?

Jason email sounds like it is nothing bad.

Why are some trying to make such a big deal about it?

I heard that it was sent to a staff person and copied by Jason to the council. More of a FYI of information.
Sounds like Benson trying to muddy Jason's name.

My take is Benson is for transparity when it applies to others.
He does his little "meetings" & "reaquest" etc without letting others know. Only brings out things he wants heard. It will catch up with him.

so are we going to see the emails?

Regarding the Jason McEldowney emails that Jim Benson was talking about during the city council meeting on August 17th...

It was purely the opinion of Jim Benson that they in violation of the Colorado Sunshine Law, NOT the reality. Important to say... Until some issue is actually heard by a court of law it is only the opinion of others.

The city attorney Bob Gehler has been asked to review this issue and give his opinion at the next city council meeting.

Thank you all for your concerns about the Colorado Sunshine Law. We at the Gateway News do take open records law very seriously and will always make sure the news is as SUNNY! as possible.
