Great reminder Gateway News.
Just because someone says something, it does NOT make it true, just makes it their opinion!
I have heard little pieces of truth woven into large tapestrys of lies, over and over in this city!

Bob Z said...

Have you seen all the political signes for Robert Romine along
Hwy.2 and other places in the city?
There`are a lot less of them now that were there on Monday of this week.
ARE SOME OF HIS OPPONENT'S REMOVEING THEM?
No that isnt what is happining. There is an ordinance forbiding any posting signs on fences or on public right of way.So the City has given him notice to remove them and if he doesnt comply the City will remove them. Robert claims to know a lot about City ordenance's.How did he miss this one?

Rhonda said...

I dont know Romine that well, but have to say, his political signs are out of control.

How is this possible if, he can not run?

Clarification Needed, How can Mr. Ford run?

I am not against him running, I was under the impression that he could not for 2 more years?

Please Explain

Seth, Reunion Colorado

All that happened is Sean Ford picked up a packet, that does not mean anything, except for Sean Ford picked up a packet.

Gateway News said...

Clarification:

Reported that Former May Sean Ford Picked up a packet, nothing more as of yet.

Gateway News Twitter: # Former Commerce City Mayor Sean Ford picks up candidate packet for November 2009 elections. about an hour ago

Anonymous said...

I heard he likes to follow Benson's lead.
A long time ago he stated he would run and make the city sue him not to.
I don't see how the city clerk can allow this, since the charter makes specific rules to be eligible to run, one is off council for 4 yrs.
Sean follow the rules!!

why was councilman scott jaquith allowed into executive session to talk about the city manager's contract? i thought that he was going to be working for the city and since jerry flannery was going to be his boss soon, he would not be allowed? did everyone forget that?

thank you city council for allowing the water to be bought! this is a good move and good for the city. finally some good common sense strategy.

EMAIL CONCLUSION City Atty Bob Gehler cautions council members to not discuss with each other in emails. Rather send their emails to the city manager and let him distribute so there is no potential violation of the open meeting laws. So end of the email saga!

Looks like the voters in Commerce City will get to possibly vote on allowing a third term for mayor and city council members, thereby abolishing term limits as they stand now. I think this is a pretty good idea actually.

The election is important for the city and as a voter I would like to know the financial stability of the candidates. How a candidate manages their finances relates to character and will carry over into decisions made for the benefit of the city. We definitely don’t want someone who has financial difficulties and just in need of the money. Those are the people we read about after they are busted for taking bribes to push a cause and or they stole a bunch of money from the city. Can you publish this info Gateway news? I would think since they are running for public office the info can be published??
Thanks,
C_City Voter

Andrew Hahn said...

I’m not sure if this is directed at me or someone else who may be running for city council but in the recent past I have had an issue with my financial situation and I will offer my explanation now, to allow all the voters to make their decision if they feel that this has tainted my character and would alter my decisions for personal gain. On July, 18th 2007 by no fault of mine I was in an automobile accident. Because of this accident I received medical treatment for over 8 months. Thru my treatment I was unable to dedicate much time to my job. After 9 months I did get behind on my house payment and nearly lost my home. For nearly 2 years I was in the fight of my life I was not going to lose everything I worked for. I am not a quitter, I worked harder and my family sacrificed and we came back. This chapter in my life has made me a better person; it has made my resolve stronger. It has taught me to not be judgmental of people but to lend a helping hand and not to put a person down but to help him up. I have been humbled and have a greater sense of compassion for people faced with adversity. That’s why I say I am a candidate that can help turn adversity into opportunity. I feel it is how a person works through adversity that makes up his or her character and in turn helps a person make decisions in a more thoughtful and thorough way. I would not assume that a person who has had financial difficulties is a bad person. Bad and unfortunate things happen to good people. I hear the stories of the people that have survived tough financial times and have come back and have the resolve to help others. I prefer to look at the positive in people and not try to drag people down with the negativisms that surround a few people. I know most of the candidates they are all good people wanting to throw their hat into the ring to help make Commerce City a better place for all. It’s not about the money, it’s because we care. Good luck to my fellow candidates. Please before you judge me, meet me; ask me your questions and learn who I am and then make a judgment where my heart is.

Dusty please publish this right under the post that address’s this matter

All, my financial information blog is NOT directed any anyone in particular. I don’t personally know any of the candidates. The request is to help formulate an intelligent decision about who can best represent our city. To Andrew: Your post is what I'm looking for and it shows real character, thank you. Hell, I had huge student loan payments years ago with no job to make them and I’m sure most of had some issue in life. It’s called living.
There are people out there (hopefully not running) that avoid their responsibilities. I want to make sure that type of person (if running) doesn't get my vote.
I don’t want is some financially irresponsible person or persons sitting on our council making decisions on taxes, business deals…etc that will affect our growth.

Thanks,
C_City Voter

I am disappointed that a WM truck was on I76 West with trash flying out into the HWY. No way to keep the trucks from doing this?

It was yesterday at 6:15pm

Fred A. You can call Public Works or Waste Management with your complaint. Seems like you have enough info for them (W/M) to check out the vehicle in question to see if there is some faulty equipment. I would recommend calling Public Works at 303-289-8150, they'll take the report and contact W/M. They probably have more clout than you or I do.

I've called PW before when trash trucks were driving on the sidewalks, and breaking concrete.

In reference to the city manager evaluation: Maybe council will finally get the city manager to pay interest on his housing loan. And I hope coucil keeps in mind that many of us have not seen a raise this past year- when we get to keep our jobs. PLEASE do not give any increases to the city manager.

Anonymous said...

That hardly seems fair.
Because some don't get raises, everyone should not be rewarded for a job well done.
I don't know if the city manager deserves a bonus/raise, but if the evaluation determines he does, by God give it to him if the city can afford it.
I am getting sick of the socilist idea that everything for everyone should be equal!

Anonymous said...

The request to not give the city manager a raise does not seem to be elitist or even socialist. The city council has an opportunity to demonstrate their courage and understanding of the current tough times. The city manager has an opportunity to be a role model- show his understanding of the financial situation of many of the residents. And when staff has cut so many $$$ out of the city budget, why not keep a salary of $160000 plus a rich benefit package flat? Makes good policy.

There was a comment about Scott Jacquith working for the city manager so he should not go into executive session. Does anyone know what that is about?

Anonymous said...

Reference Mr Jaquith working for the city.
Yes that was a lie from Councilwomen Reba Droter, who made a leap from a comment of interest made by Mr Jaquith.

Anonymous said...

Someone told me that the City Manager said he wasn't intending to take any raise or bonus. He showed me an integrity on the video that I can see that to be the truth.

We went to the Zoppe circus at the Mile High Market (old flea market). It was great!!
Like going back to the old time circus.
Close in seating and our kids had a ball! It was great family fun that we would recommend.

They will be there for 2 more weekends,

The election will be upon us before we know it. This year’s election is a mail in ballot, so watch your mailbox and hold onto your ballot until you feel well equipped to make some of these most important decisions regarding the future of our county, cities, and schools.

So far there appears to be a large slate of candidates for the positions of city council for both Brighton and Commerce City, as well as the position of mayor of Brighton.

At this point there will also be at least one question about term limits being changed to three terms at the Adams County level. This next week, the city council in Commerce City is also addressing this issue. This gives us all some time to open up the discussion and look at both sides of the issue, before we vote.

Personally, I think it is a good idea to allow for a third term. Also, every politician has term limits automatically by having to run for office upon completion of each term. I think that the experience lost when we limit to two terms is a huge disadvantage to our cities and county.

These are positions that mostly require attendance at a meeting once a week, and not every week actually. So the first term for each elected official is truly a learning experience, the second term they can really start to understand the issues they are dealing with and voting on, and a third term would give us very experienced representatives that really can handle the issues that are brought to them. Also after a first and second term, the elected officials can actually get to know their constituents and understand what their needs are and how they are thinking.

So I would encourage everyone to vote YES to a third term for our politicians, while keeping in mind, if they are not doing a good job, if they are not listening to you, if they do not represent you well, then don’t vote for them when they run. But if they are doing a good job, then this gives us all the opportunity to keep the good guys and gals.

It might be a good time for you to get some advice from a Philadelphia Lawyer about the Bronco video. Maybe you both could sue the City for presenting it.

Anonymous said...

I find Romine boring.
He gets up every week to talk about his life and his personal opinions.
Robert the city council isn't your personal twitter.
I didn't find the video the least bit offensive. Those few that found it so are LOOKING to find problems.
People need to get all of their chips off the shoulders. Life can be fun.

Regarding the question of Medical Marijuana we were asked to give a Support or Oppose answer.
I would like to follow up with this statement. My first thought would be to oppose a Medical Marijuana Dispensary in city limits of Commerce City, before I would make any judgment on any issue I would look at all the facts to be able to render a fair decision on this or any issue, and as a representative of the people I would listen to what my constituents would have to say so that I would be representing the opinion of the people. In this process I would bring their questions and concerns to the table so they could be addressed as well. In turn the people who are presenting this request would need to show to the people and the city how and why this should be allowed. Some concerns regarding this request would include; security, location and verifications would certainly need to be addressed. With that said please contact me educate me on your proposal so that I may better make a determination on this issue.
