Gateway, can you find out how many council members and how many staff are going to attend the Colorado Municipal League annual event in Vail?
I am wondering if the cost of this Vail adventure is really fair to the citizens.

Many thanks Mr. McIntyre said...

Dustin McIntyre's article on Memorial Day was sobering and echoed are own thoughts of loved ones and friends who died fighting for our country.

The article on Adams 14 school-based health clinics should be read by all. Hope the article is reprinted on the Gateway site. The data is clear about the poverty in the southern part of Commerce City and the demographics of same. Since that school district is in such turmoil and is disfunctional, we must all look for solutions to help these residents which will help Commerce City as a whole. Hate to say this but it looks like Estelle Remington's stats were right.

I like the Veterans as Parade marshals for the Commerce City parade. I think what would really be neat is if Commerce City could have CO-MARSHALS - A Veteran or Veterans escorting a family member of a fallen soldier. I can think of two families right away in Commerce City.

Commerce City could even go outside its boundaries if it had too.

It would bring back the day to those who died (Memorial Day) and not so much those who are alive, (Veterans Day).

Anonymous said...

CC could have a Veterans Day Parade too in November.

Hyde said...

One Parade Commerce City should have is a Cinco De Mayo Parade!!!!!!!!!!

Cheo, Commerce City said...

Hyde, I think that is a good idea. Commerce City has come close to a sort of organized cinco de mayo celebration. This could happen in the near future.

SORRY BUT I SAY NO TO A CINCO DE MAYO PARADE! AT LEAST NOT A CITY ORGINIZED ONE!

After having a discussion with 3 different people about the same subject I decided to get clarification about what the Commerce City Charter rules are regarding Appointments and Elected positions as far as term limits. The following is the clear clarification from Commerce City:

Appointment or election for completion of another council member’s four-year term does not count toward the eight-year term limitation of a council member. For example, an appointment to complete another council member’s term nor an election for two years to complete another council member’s term count toward the term limitation.

Close to the Situation said...

Dustin,
Great information, can you please twitter that and put it on your Cover Stories. I know some who had a completely different interpretation on it.

Thanks again for the clarification!

Can you find out why the liquor authority illegally denied Community Enterprise their liquor permit for Derby Daze?

Anonymous said...

I'd rather not have a cinco de mayo formal celebration in CC.
We are trying hard to make the metro area realize we are a diverse community.
I have hispanic relatives, but do not feel that spotlighting one nationality in our city will benifit it.
Those who want to celebrate within their families and friends, clubs etc. great.
As a city, I think we should be inclusive.
Parades like memorial day are about the country...those who defend it...not about any specific race or group.

Anonymous said...

the city needs to get the illegals off our roads before I take the chance driving to the core city for anything.

We need to move American celebrations to the us citizen part of the city.
Can't believe someone would suggest we celebrate mexicans sneaking into the country. If that person wants to help mexicans go an make protest for change in mexico. write letters to the mexican authority for change and opportunity.

Close to the Situation said...

To be honest,

liquor authority did treat communcity enterprise unfairly, NO REASON why they should have been denied, period.

Just some thoughts said...

The last thing that old town Derby needs is a beer garden at Derby Daze. Isn't this suppose to be for families? Its also unfair to the restaurants in the area that have liquor licenses. I'm not on the Liquor Authority and not connected to Community Enterprise, but it seems to make sense to keep this a family thing since Community Enterprise stands for helping neighborhoods and families.

Anonymous said...

Gateway, who has applied for the open seat on city council?

Cheo, Commerce City said...

you hit it on the head. derby daze events should stay as a family event.
so far a great family commerce city tradition.

So what! Derby DAZE can still be a "FAMILY EVENT" with a little beer. Not a big deal!
Liquor Authority should have done the right thing and NOT discriminate against Community Enterprise.

Just so no one is surprised at the Commerce City Council meeting on Monday night, Paolo Diaz is the person that will be appointed. Friend of Paul Natale, so no one else even has any chance. Sorry folks but this city is ruled by threats and intimidation. Remember the last appointment, second verse same as the first. McEldowney had Natale too. So Diaz will be spending the weekend getting prepped for his big reveal. Remember to vote in November.

coucnil needs to ask if any of these candidates know the structure of the city.

The have to realize that they are only 1 of 9 and really do not have that much power.

Commerce City staff can basically do whatever the hell they want, city council does not have much say.

A lot of what happens in the city can be done "administratively"

All council can do is just sit and watch.

DeVotchKa Denver Based - Commerce City Sister Lyrics

Can I sleep in your arms tonight sister
Can I lay down with you here tonight
I would shield you from the morning sun
We'll stroll arm and arm in the kingdom come
Can I sleep in your arms tonight
You know I ain't never going back to Commerce City
Who knows how many times they've taken my last twenty dollar bill
There ain't no love lost there ain't no more time to kill
All my brothers they're up on Jersey landfill
And I ain't never going back to that town
Can I sleep in your arms tonight sister
Can I lay down with you here tonight
Cuz hearing your voice can remind me of better days
This is the voice that can carry me away
Let me sleep in your arms tonight
Darling wasn't it true what we learned
As the whiskey finally eats your heart
And where was that place I was born tonight
It's the one that leads straight to your heart
Can I sleep in your arms tonight sister
Can I lay down with you here tonight
Let me sleep in your arms tonight
Can I sleep in your arms tonight sister

I don't count attendance to meetings as a qualification. Yes personal interest, but it doesn't make you a councilman anymore than sitting in a garage makes you a car.

It certainly doesn't mean he has the understand/background to be the best.

Maybe after the council conducts the first round od interviews they could narrow the applicants to three finalists and the next day conduct a deeper interview with each finalist to better get to know them and then select the winner.

Love the idea of picking the top three and doing a second round of interviews.

This is how the city does it for their positions, such as the new economic development specialist.

No way anyone of the Commerce City Council could anticipate 21 applicants for .

They may have been a cheerleader for certain residents before, such as a couple at the 'back of the room', but 21 wanting to be on council is a game changer. I don't what happened but it is a different event now.

I read that this might be some kind of a record of interest. I am telling you IT IS A RECORD!

Love the out pour of interest.

Like I said, I don't know why, but it is a WIN-WIN for everyone!

Anonymous said...

Gee wiz - the appointed person on Council will be there less than 6 months - barely enough time to figure out which button to push for the microphone. it doesn't matter who it is - they will have to run for the seat in November - everyone interested sees this as a leg up if appointed because of a little bit of experience and a little name recognition.

21 people applying for the position sort of dictates that there should be finalists.

First of all, it makes no sense to give a Denver based Mexican Counsel a CC Award for the speedy processing of 6,000 new arrivals over several states. Unless, they have provided a specific service to our city. I am currently recovering from back to back major surgeries, so, I am very tired. If, someone could research and contact our city clerk to find out why this CC Award was given to this Mexican Consul and the real facts around this award it would be great.

Secondly, it is inhumane, without feeling or pity, and abusive to keep up speedy processing of new arrivals into CC when we are currently economically stressed beyond our capacity or ability to do so and have been since 2008 in the Adams 14 School District. For example, if, a person boards horses and already has 25 starving horses on their pastures but insists on taking in 25 more horses just to double their money. But, does not have the actual pastures available to feed these animals then that is abusive and inhumane without pity on these animals. Saying, the grass is there you will have to fight to survive. This is what CC is doing today, saying to thousands of immigrants you can come in but we can not take care of you economically but we want your "use taxes" and federal and state benefits. As a city, we need to close the door on the abuse of thousands of immigrants just to get them to live in the Adams 14 School District. It is time to do a comprehensive survey to find out what is really happening in Adams 14.

Gateway, If you really have a credable source for the number of illegals voting in this area, can you please find out about the other metro cities.
Brighton, Thornton, Denver, Aurora, Lakewood etc.
It should also have a ratio of illegal to legal voting residents to give us any real insight.
Don't know who would have those types of numbers....do they ask people after they voted if they are here legally, or are they just speculated with numbers, that they have come up with?

The specifics of the Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler's claims of illegal immigrants voting numbers are being pursued by many news outlets...

As soon as they release anything, I will report. As of now, it is looking like it might be some time until it is made available to the public.

Found this on the web, is this the same guy that was chosen by our city council as one of the finalist to represent us?

Hector Gutierrez, Rocky Mountain News

A Commerce City police sergeant has been issued a summons and complaint charging him with a misdemeanor count of driving while under the influence after he was involved in a rollover crash last month. The arraignment for Sgt. Joe Sandoval is scheduled for Feb. 5.Sandoval, 37, also faces traffic offenses for careless driving and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Great CC OUTREACH! Remember we still have one more this summer! See you then!

Dustin, so you are saying Gesslers' numbers are not necessary scientific, but rather "claims".
Do you know how he came to the numbers he has ( I realize he has not released the numbers yet)?

Wow, if we can get Sandoval on council, Ford for mayor, Leffel on council along with Benson. I know what will be my week's entertainment.
Heck my next four years entertainment.

I LOVE TOM'S OUTFIT! Did the C3 team stay at circus circus?

Here is the best explanation of how Scott Gessler quantifies citizenship voting numbers.

They had a understanding with DMV, that the specifics of the information would not be given out. But my questions was not to the specifics, rather the general geographical area, such as Adams Co. Commerce City, Brighton, Denver, and Thornton.

Getting this point across, has been challenging. I will report back with any new updates as they come.

Dustin,
You are chasing a non-story, there is a very good chance that these people (YES, they are people) became legal just before the election. I know the big media would chase this because they are only out there for the shock and awe value. Please don't play into their game as well.

Respectively, Cheo, Commerce City Resident

If I was in Dominick Moreno position I would have so many questions to ask I would not know were to begin.
Lucky guy!

me too.
Not so much the president himself, more questions for the administration. I would like to know the flow of information, how do things get done from an idea to reality. What issues are priorities, emergencies etc. and how that is determined.

Moreno! Great news on your invite,Bring back some Economic Development if you can!

Dominick has a once in lifetime chance, make the best of it. You should plan out your entire time. Know what your going to say and make a good standing impression.

You never know, this could go a long way for Commerce City.

I know he won't, but I wish Mr. Moreno would run for Mayor in 2011.

Cheo, Commerce City said...

Looks like Denver Mayor-elect Michael Hancock is having some troubles early in his career.

wonder if moreno will mention how illegals have destroyed sd14 or how many illegals we have voting in commerce city or how we have a need for an ICE office.

Talked with Tracey Snyder at Derby Daze today-what a busy girl she is! After going to ICSC (where I heard she and the ED team and Councilman McEldowney set a new record for 80 meetings in a couple of days!) she then went to Women In Municiple Government where she met with someone about that program for kids! Saw her at the Outreach this week as well! We are so proud of her-she works really hard for the people of Commerce City!

Read on Facebook today that Tracey Snyder in her work with the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Steering Committee has been able to help move some legislation on for the first responders! It is about protecting the D Block and keeping it for first responders. This is going to be very helpful for our police and fire departments across the Country! Great work Tracey! Keep us posted! We need to keep this girl working for our town! Team Tracey? You bet!!
