Mayor Paul Natale "I cannot believe how ugly the election for mayor is getting. The trash blog got one of the stations to pick it up. they must be really afraid of Robert Tavos. i will be glad when it is all over."

I am glad to see the current mayor supporting Tovos!

None of these so called arrests should have been in the public!

ummmmm hey BED,

I am not really sure the mayor is supporting Toavs (correct spelling).

But maybe I am wrong?

I would like to know why the Commerce City voters in the different wards are so different in numbers.

Re: recycling location Highway 2 in Commerce City.

"Over an 11-week period, the city’s public works department removed more than 40 tons of trash and debris unrelated to recycling,” said Brian McBroom, deputy city manager for external services. “From hypodermic needles, carpets, furniture and even scrap metal, it’s clear the facility is no longer meeting its original intent.”

Now with the proposed new medical waste processing facility by mile high market place, the city can just transfer the contents!

Mike said...

The one thing that everybody is forgetting about when it comes to the different numbers of registered voters in the wards is that the wards are based on the number of residents and not registered voters. So the wards are all within something like 5% of being equal.

Lionel, Commerce City said...

so ward 1 must have a lot of kids under 18?

or ward 1 must have a lot of people who never took the time to register to vote ever?

I get it.

Estelle Remington said...

Ward voters

As far as I remember, all the Wards are equally divided according to population. After this last Census, new population lines have been drawn that's why republicans and democrats get so upset and also why some candidates change party affiliations. That is why for city council it does not matter which party one belongs to. Thus, each Ward should have the same number of people living there. However, if a Ward has only a certain number of eligible voters that can register to vote, we get these lopsided numbers. The Northern Range has almost twice the eligible registered voters as the other Wards but basically the same population numbers. Usually, it is the older generation that votes and each year people die. Voters get discouraged with the quality of candidates that run for office and feel their vote makes no difference then they drop out. About 82% of CC voters have dropped out of active voting but will support a Recall to get out poor quality of service to the community because that means so much more to them. So, Recalls do not necessarily come from those that voted candidates in, but those that can not abide lack of commitment to service. Ward 2 should probably be divided into another Ward because of population growth. That's, why we have so many invested qualified candidates in Ward 2. Moreover, (And, I know, people will get upset with this observation.) we are lopsided in numbers of educated people who are interested in city council in the North and therefore more active in pursuing seats.

Wes, Northern Range said...

GN, thanks for posting those voter numbers,
I find those voter by ward numbers paint a vivid picture of Commerce City.
Proof is in the math. People really do not care. More to the fact, people really really do not care in ward one.

Cheo, Commerce City said...

I would like to see a push to get Commerce City Wards ONE and FOUR to have more "active" voters then "inactive" voters.
Maybe that can be something the city can have as one of their new priorities.

Glad to know there is only one unfortunate and deeply confused individual who thinks Tom Acres should have been appointed as City Manager. A City Manager is the leader of the City. To lead you must have the respect of, and credibility with those being lead (Council and staff)- Tom Acres has never had this and he will never have it - sorry, move on! Brian MacBroom is a man of integrity, well experienced and qualified - he will do a great job.

Great new Council members will work well with existing members to get this City organizational structure and spending on unnecessary high level staff under control. Good Job Voters - I can't wait to talk to all of you about the next election while we are standing in line at our new King Soopers!

Anonymous said...

Looking at the photo on the main page. Looks like someone played the present mayor for a fool. He should have realized there are no real friends watching his back.

Anonymous said...

Nope. Klocker would have lost by a landslide if he had not done the right thing and voted to censure Lewis. He gained votes by finally going against her continued, dispicable behavior. Sadly, over the years, Mr. Klocker lost his real base by catering to Lewis. I think Mrs. Lewis wrote that comment herself. We know she reads and writes on this blog even though her actions against the Gateway time and time again have been deplorable. She's done punishing and bullying everyone and an army of people will oppose her if she tries to run for any office again. By the way, she's not nearly as smart as she thinks she is. No one with a lick of sense or brains would have done the things she has done. She's earned her legacy.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to Steve Douglas! I understand he ran his campaign without excepting 1 donation. He is a fine gentleman who will represent our city with dignity and respect for all.

Sean may not spend time in China, but he did spend time in India for free (got thousands of dollars from the same people who took him on the trip).
Hmmmmm
He probably shouldn't make snide comments, they may just bite him in the butt.

American citizen

In the beginning only land or property owners and only males could vote in the Thirteen United States. And, so far as I am aware only American citizens are eligible to vote in American elections. It is more than just getting people to sign up to vote, they must be able to read English and be a citizen of the United States to participate in elections. The State of California votes in many languages but the people are all citizens of U.S. In today's government it takes about 5 years to become a citizen and costs about $5,000 for all the paperwork which is not that expensive when one considers the freedom one gains.

This was a comment on the Commerce City Beacon Website.

GN,

Do you know anything about this?

VOTE AGAINST GENE

"Thank you for everyone who voted against this evil man. This man has sexually harrassed women for years and has never been convicted. This man calls women breeders behind their backs and forces his sons to continue his harrassment through physical abuse. Look at this man, look at his life, and look at the people he attracts. Is this who you want running your city? I sure don't. Please vote against Gene Lefel."

Cheo, Commerce City said...

Gateway,
This was also on the Commerce City Beacon's website as a comment about at-large candidate Gene Leffel:

"This is the most sexist man alive. I worked with him at a previous job and he considers all women "breeders". If you have any self respect as a woman or any respect for women as a man do not vote for this man."

To the many in Northern Commerce City who could not vote in the A14 election you stood with me and helped me in ways one cannot immagine.

Their were others who did not live in CC but you held me up during this, one of the most challanging time of my life.

To the Adams 14 community who cast their vote for me I am truly committed to make A14 a front runner in the education of your children, grand children and great grandchildren.

I thank my wife and family and dear friends, I thank those who did not support me because I will work for you also.

The city manager in Brighton deserves much more than a "fireplace" in his office. Brighton is growing with sustainable growth, and the city manager in Brighton does not waste money, especially on an out of control lifestyle at the taxpayer's expense like the Commerce City manager Flannery has always done. The Brighton city manager bought his own house, pays his own taxes and insurance on it, does not have the largest car allowance in the state of Colorado and is found at his desk working every day, not hanging out in the cigar bar at the Brown Palace Hotel. Not only should Manuel Escobel have a fireplace, he should be given a raise and a statue in front of the new city hall that he negotiated to buy for a great price. Kudos to Brighton for building a great city and shame on Commerce City for being so ignorant all the way around.

For Pete's sake! How could Ford have had anything to do with what council spent on CML for this year?!? Not possible at all. Also, the picture was taken at Sean Ford's election party. It was a very nice event and lots and lots of people just came over to watch the results come in and then lots more came by to congratulate him when he won. People were there who supported all sorts of other candidates, but all wanted to congratulate Sean. I thought it was great that all these people from so many different circles were thinking about working together. What a refreshing idea.

If I have to follow one more semi down HW2 on my way to work, I'm going to freak out.
If Commerce City expects growth in the norther range, than there needs to be the proper infrastructure to support it. King Soopers, alone, is going to require its fair share of trucks with deliveries.
HW2 and Tower need a couple more lanes. This is really something. If I was contemplating bringing business here, I would laugh it off.
While I'm ranting, can we please hire a real company to finish the repairs on 104th? That looked like a week's worth of work.

Mayoral Candidate Robert Toavs reports he will run for Mayor in four years, Toavs plans to apply to city boards as a start.

I know Gene in Commerce City.

The comments on the Commerce City Beacon are not true about him and are completely uncharacteristic.

Break away from commerce city and do what?
own city? news flash, not enough revenue!
part of Brighton? first of all it would take more then a decade, commerce city would never let that happen, maybe Brighton does not want us.

No, we are commerce city and we have to just accept it and work together!

Anonymous said...

Not enough revenue? Not enough roof tops to be our own city? Count 'em and include the areas zoned for industrial and commercial. Small city, small government. It's all relative.

Anonymous said...

I think Toavs watches too many movies. He's not cut out for the Mayor spot. He doesn't have a clue about government. The record doesn't help, either.

dkeys, no doubt there will be drama, just differnet players. Of course you won't have Natale to jab, so you'll either have to shut up or find a new thorn for your side.

I am interested on how this new council is going to act.
Should be interesting to say the least.
I think I can see some the the personalities clashing.
Remember Jim Benson is still there.

It is great the Robert is getting involved in the Boards and Commissions at the city.
He will make a great mayor someday.

No Ike,
He will not.

Talked to Tracey Today. Will be a great rep for us in 2012 House 32!

I dont think I will be sending any congradulations to Dominick Moreno for the new district map anytime soon! While Mr. Moreno is, as always, completely slanted in one direction, Tracey Snyder will work for ALL of the people of our City! That is what we all need! Thank goodness we will finally have someone in the State House that will have our best interest in mind and not just his own!

You can make a sure bet (100% guaranteed) Just bet that the City Counsel members personal spending will increase in the near future and most of this will be by the Mayor pro-ten yet to be named.

New mayor and council in Commerce City tonight!

dkeys said...

I see Jim Benson running for mayor in four years against Sean Ford.
Still can't beleive he won by that many votes.
Really sends a message to Paul Natale.
GN,
Now that Natale is going to be finally gone after tonight, can you take down his stupid twitter.

For far too long Commerce City has been "run" by the city staff.
It is now time for the city council to run the city by giving direction to the staff with their advice. Key word is advice.
Too long the council, maybe because they were not as strong, let the staff run the city.
Change is coming and it will be good.

RRR in CCC said...

So how are you going to measure if Ford is doing a good job or not?
Retail? City Image? How?

I know I for one will be watching very carefully and will call out anything I see out of place.

gn,
any word on who the next cc cm will be?

I sure was wrong about who I thought would be named Mayor Pro-ten. I am still in shock. And to think that when I said Counsel spending would increase and most of it by
Mayor Pro-ten . I guess I'll have to hide my head and not write any more bad about any Counsel Person.

So it seems that an interim city manager needs council approval for all hires and fires. So citizens of Commerce City, you, thru your new mayor and council really will have a voice FINALLY! Better days ahead for Commmerce City starting tonight. Oh ya!

If RRR in CCC is Paul Natale, why are you still writing on the trashy blog???

Happy, packed house at Commerce City tonight with congrats all around. Mayor Ford did a nice job selecting Dominick Moreno for Mayor Pro-Tem. These guys (and ladies) look like they are serious about moving the city forward. It was a refreshing night. Natale ungracious to the end.

Goes to show you can not trust some on the old council. I was told that Sean was going to pick his old mayor protem Rene. He picked Dominick instead.

I am very surprised.

Ward Two Jim Benson taking the lead by that much tells me that many do not like Paul Natalie.

Diaz not getting in at all tells me voters did not like the old city councils decisions.

Wes, Northern Range said...

Hey RRR!
How do you sum up Natale's tenure?
Retail?
How others (cities) receive us?
The fact that Rev. every year the entire time Natale was on as mayor and expenditures were up every year?

Anonymous said...

Moreno will be a good pro-tem. He will not just fall in line. He will challenge Ford if and when the Sh*t hits the fan.

RRR in CCC said...

oh dearest wes,
rev. was up the last year. Yes I know you are going to come back and say it was because of the one time suncor settlement. but none the less they were up.
just keeping you honest.

I really hope that when Dominic takes off to the Colorado House and we have to appoint a person. GENE LEFFEL is the one chosen. He knows more about this city then ANYONE up there.
He knows a lot more about this city the Steve and Crystal do.

I know all of these waste of time Chinese trips that Commerce City made were supposedly paid from other sources and not city funds. I would like to know were the money really came from. If it was from other funds, was it eventually passed onto the tax payers.

Everyone who went on these trips has left the city.

In the Know said...

Can't understand why Beacon still has the comments about Leffel on their websites.

"thank god Leffel

Thank God Gene Leffel was not voted in!!! Thank you so much to everyone who voted against him. This is THE MOST sexist man I've ever met in my life. I worked with Gene at a previous job and he considered all women "breeders". This man should never be given power. He will run every year. Please do not vote for him. You will only be harming yourselves and your loved ones.

So our brand new Mayor Pro Tem makes the news on the first day of his new office. Was it for something good for our City? No, it was for being appointed to the Gay and Lesbian group of NLC! That does nothing to forward Commerce City in any way. Dont get me wrong, people have a right to do and be whatever they want. I am not speaking against the choice of lifestyle. However we are talking about the elected officials we send to the State House to represent us. The people of Commerce City need to stop and take a minute to look at what is going on. Jessie Ulibarri, a relative unknown, is running for our Senate seat, openly gay. Now Dominick is coming out in a big way- so does anyone see that maybe the agenda that may be pushed may not be about what is best for our City? The article is all about this agenda, and Mr. Moreno is all over it. Think about this people. We need to make another choice for our City. Read the article everyone- Denver and the West section of the Post today.

Thank you Mayor Pro Tem Snyder for the moment of silence for the Hamilton family. You stand behind your friends and your family, thats the kind of person you are.

Congradulations to Tracey Snyder for getting the endorsement of the Colorado Motor Carriers Association! With 78 trucking industries right here in Commerce City that is a huge endorsement for you! Great job!!

I read the article about the Gay and Lebs. with Mr. Moreno.
I kinda always thought, but never really knew.
Article does not really say he is or isn't gay.
I know it should not matter.
I think people are just naturally curious.

Sharkey, Brighton said...

The fact if someone is gay or not should not have any place in politics.
I personally never understood why such "boards" that cater to lifestyles even exist.
Dont ever see a board of SMW "Straight Men and Women"

GOOD FOR COUNCIL MEMBER MORENO!

pro city 3.0 said...

"Dominick Moreno, a Commerce City councilman, was elected as an at-large member of the GLBTLO board."

What does this board do?

Thad, Commerce City said...

I have no problem with any of my council members who represent me being gay.

As long as they cut spending, increase the city's revenue streams via new and growing businesses and take a long and hard look at our top heavy city staff.

That is my 2 cents

Belle Creek Obsever said...

being elected as an at-large member of the GLBTLO board pretty much says that you yourself are gay?

I don't know, but agree people are curious by nature.

Maybe GN can come out and just ask Dominic?

Marcus, Commerce City said...

GLBT is not a chosen lifestyle. A persons' genes determine their sexual orientation.

Pro Casso & Pro Moreno said...

The political performance and not the sexual orientation should be the issue.

So far Moreno has should good sense, getting rid of the elected official retirement fund.

Moreno was not part of the deal breaker council.

Moreno is not afraid of taking on Benson.

Moreno will make a good pro-tem.

These are the facts and this is what will propel Moreno into CO-HD-32!

Belle Creek Obsever said...

Wonder how Tracey Snyder as a Republican/New Democrat feels about her house opponent coming out in the Denver Post.

Anonymous said...

No where in the article does in say Moreno is gay.

Curious in Reunion said...

Is this the group that Dominick Moreno is the at-large member of?

http://www.glbtcolorado.org/default.aspx

Anonymous said...

I don't care if Dominick is straight or not.

He NEEDS to keep his promise to the citizens of Commerce City and fulfill his entire 4 year term as our Ward ONE council member.

He does not NEED to jump ship half-way thru.

Whoever (maybe Ed Casso) told him to do this, gave him WRONG advice.

Dominick is young and most likely does mean well. And maybe someday would make a good state rep.

But it is NOT a time trail race. He needs to slow down.

The House seat is not going anywhere.

By jumping out of Commerce City so fast only gives the impression that he wants out to bigger and better things.

Image and perception is everything (words of Paul Natale) and his is not a good one for him.

Anonymous said...

I would agree that especially now, since he is Mayor Pro Tem, Dominick Moreno needs to stay on Council. You dont just cut and run on your responsibility to the people that elected you!

As for being gay, I just hope that he keeps his attention where it needs to be, and that is right where he is!

Anonymous said...

Wow, so the truth about Dominick finally comes out. Most of us knew anyway.

Stay where you are Dominick, the House will always be there. I agree that you should finally stop listening to Ed Casso, whos problem with Tracey Snyder is personal, not professional (heaven knows he has shown us that on numerous occassions!)and do what is right. Stand by Mayor Ford and do your job.

Anonymous said...

I share in your congrats to Tracey Snyder for getting the Colorado Motor Carrier's endorsement! She stands strong for the trucking industry, and has worked for United Van Lines for over 12 years. She understands the business, and that is why she was endorsed! Great job Tracey!

Anonymous said...

I spoke to Ms. Snyder today about her thoughts on the newly out Dominick Moreno. Her only comment was that she thought that he should stay and serve out his term. Just goes to show you that even when she has a chance to throw a little mud around, she doesnt take the shot. Perhaps Ed Casso could learn a little class from her!

Anonymous said...

The interim CM has always been limited on hiring and firing.
That was the case for Greg when he was the fill in also.
Not news!

Mayor and Mayor Pro-tem are a very odd couple.
Could not be any more different.

Anonymous said...

This is the organization that Moreno is an at-large member of.

http://www.nlc.org/build-skills-networks/networks/constituency-groups/glbtlo

Anonymous said...

face it, moreno was voted in by those with illegal family members to work for the south's illegal immigrant community. ford was only going to choose a south resident for mayor fill-in and the only choices were bullock or moreno. had he choose bullock there would have been an uproar because of the nascar issue. moreno is the only way to bring in more voters in the south to counter the northern growth.
ford's agenda is not for the benefit of the entire city and we need to watch council very closely.

don't think moreno acts very mescaline and if he prefers men, who cares....I care if he's loyal to U.S citizens or citizens of mexico that sneaked into our country.
